Does anyone else think this is sneaky and unfair?

So we have a few venues in mind as are preferred ones; one of the ones we like was originally advertised to us at £1395 package for 40 wedding breakfast guests ,drinks package and 40 evening guests with cake stand, over night stay and cutlery e.t.c included which we thought was a great deal and would only cost us an extra £200 on top of that to cater for 80% of our evening guests.

We went and had a look around and all seemed lovely; Andy said that the new packages were still in re-print but they would be done Friday (2 weeks ago) but wouldn't change too much to what we'd been told.

I emailed the original person who I had been exchanging emails with to ask about when the new package would be ready? She replied that they would be end of feb...due to the fact we were hoping to book our venue by the end of feb; I asked her what had changed in the original package thinking about maybe a slight price increase and a change of food.

Turns out that the food is virtually the same but they have increased the price to £2014! for the same thing; I asked why there had been an unexpected £619 increase? She said that the price she originally gave me was the 2012 October price...

Further more; the £2014 'offer' is only for the first 6 couples who book with them then it goes to £3500!!!

We can go to Coombe abbey for £500 more...

I just think it is unfair and they didn't tell us that we had to pay an extra £300 for the ceremony room hire until I asked...although they knew we were planning on getting married there...

Rant over but so annoyed; feel like they keep adding things on and though it is unlikely that 6 couples would book before the end of feb..we'd be none the wiser if they said people had and we had to pay £3500...

well....they have just lost your custom. it would be nice if they were straight with you at time of enquiry really!!! must say, ive been really lucky with my venue...but there's still time for a sneak attack im sure <_<

i think its really naughty when places bump prices up that much, i was ready to book my hotel room for the night and the flat rate had gpne from 99 quid, to 153!!!! i rang up and was like, have i read something wrong?! Apparently not! So I booked somewhere else.

Our venue was straight up with us. They said the price per head in the brochure was for 2013 and that for 2014 it would go up by a set percentage (I can't remember what the percentage was). H2B, being a maths graduate, was able to work out the increase in his head, and our payments have matched what we worked out.

I'm surprised they haven't been upfront as it all comes out in the wash anyway as you go through a contract. £2014 still isn't bad though.

That's the thing Velcro; we really liked the venue but feel like if we book with them they'll take us for a ride so it's a matter of do we suck up our pride and go with it or look again at our other preferred venue? :(

Yeah we wouldn't have minded that Elinor if they'd told us that straight off; we'd be fine. I figured that their might be a slight increase as you said with the percentage but not £600 odd plus £300 for the ceremony room hire so that's £900 more then what we were expecting to pay...:(

i think you need to get a list of things to ask them, so you are crystal clear on all charges and costs on absolutely everything.

Thats not fair! We had the opposite happen and were so lucky! We went in last september and picked up a brochure for 2014 and then booked. When we went for a meet with them we were told it was £500 cheaper because we booked in 2013. TBH though i think £2014 is an amazing price as we are paying £3500 for 60 guests. Not great for the couples after you though.

That defiantly isn't fair! I agree with Velcro, write a list and get everything checked off so you are 100% in the clear. x

    It is ridiculous...

Just a tip - make sure, when you do come to book, the prices are agreed. My friend booked with fourteen months to go, unfortunately the prices went up by nearly £10 ph in the meantime, so over £1,000 overall.....

They should have told you, surely! £2014 is a good price, were paying £5365 for 40 day guests, meal, drinks package, but do have an evening buffet for 150 and dj and cake included x

Wow and yes £2014 is a great price but it's more the fact that they weren't upfront about it :(

I would go back to them and explain you're a bit unhappy that there's such a big increase and see if they are prepared to meet in the middle? What venue is it? (I'm just being nosy as I live near you lol) x

It wouldn't make any different; when I asked why the big increase; they just said that it is how it is; I'll message you the venue as don't want to bad mouth them on here - well at least I hope I'm not; just needed a rant.

Its a difficult one. Technically no contract was drawn up using the 2012 figures you were originally quoted. Therefore they are well within their right - its just highly immoral. We booked ours in 2012 and made sure it was written down in the contract that the price would stay the same and there would be no increase.

I agree though 2014 is still a great price. If you can do it elsewhere cheaper and dont give up on the dream venue then change. If thats the venue you really want - haggle with them. Say u really wanted to go with them and hadnt anticipated such a big increase, now taking you out of budget. Maybe they can throw some extras in. X

That's true Helen; well we can't have our dream venue anyway (way out of budget) but that one and the one we are seeing tomorrow morning are definitely tops.

When I looked at a venue they did exactly this but since then me and oh decided we didn't want the big grand wedding anyway and saved our selfs about £3000 in the process x
