    Hi everyone,

I got my engagement ring from Hatton, not planned, I was proposed to in London. I don't know whether to get a shaped ring to wear with my engagement ring or a plain ring as I may be working in a physical job which would require me to get dirty...in mud (not a mud wrestler though!) When I worked I took my normal rings off so I wouldn't damage them so I was just wondering what other people do when they work practical jobs?

Also if I do end up getting a fitted ring to wear with my 18ct white gold e-ring and I end up not wearing it to work I would like one to fit around my e-ring.

How easy/expensive is it to get a ring designed to fit, with maybe some nice little sparkly bits? The rings I have looked at locally to fit around my ring were quite expensive, but were lovely and sparkly around part of the band, and were fitted.

Any experience you have would be very welcome!!!

    Thank you lovely people.

Bumped some custom ring threads for you. I hope you find them helpful.
As for your work, have you ever thought about wearing a stand in ring so you can keep your e-ring and wedding ring safe. I know a great site for stand in rings, I'll post the link on your wall.

I would say hatton garden lol, im hoping to go up soon as I'm apparently fussy about my wedding ring, not found one I really like, plentythat are nice, but not me. But they can be pricey if designed, as hatton Garden make them locally or on ssite they are generally but not always cheaper. Its an important one and a toughy!

I designed and had my wedding ring custom made by a company in Hatton Garden as my e-ring is a funny shape. They were great and never pushed us to get the most expensive option - in fact, they introduced us to palladium as we'd never heard of it before. Hubby has his ring in that now :)
They were great - I can't recommend them enough. Let me know if you want their details.

Thank you all for your replies, and thank you Sarah for the link. If you could let me know which place you got your ring from Little Kettle? I would be very grateful. I am in two minds about it all...We wont be sorting our rings out for a little while anyway as we don't have the money at the mo so still have time to decide.

    Thanks again.

Depending on type of job, i would recomend not wearing a ring during work, maybe put it around your neck on a necklace, as in very physical jobs its not overly uncommon for degloving to happen in instances! Not nice! Some lorry druvers have even caught there rings on things when jumping down from the carriage!

My hubby2be is a chef and we are just buying him a very simple cheap band as hes not overy bothered and will have to take it off when working and if he loses it then its not a posh expensive one.

When I do physical jobs and work like when I'm on exercise, I never take my rings, in case they get damaged and/or lost. After we get married, I am going to have a small tattoo done on my finger as a reminder. Probably a micro monogram of our initials!

I have to get a shaped to fit band due to the shape of my ring. I'm going with a company in Hatton Garden and paying less for my custom band than I would for one with the same specs from a high-street jeweller.

I'm also getting a plain palladium band (2mm medium weight) costing just £100 (from the same jeweller) to wear when I can't wear my set (eg certain physical activities). Maybe you could do something similar?

I got both my engagement ring and wedding band and hubby's wedding band custom made, we commissioned 1ngl3 and rh0d3 in London to help design and make them. They actually work out cheaper than general high street jewellers for the same spec rings and all their diamonds and metald are certified fair trade or recycled so it's jewellery with a conscience xxx

I have a pratical job, (the fuzz) and I don't wear my e-ring hubby and I also decided that we wont wear our wedding rings at work...

simply because its a health and safety thing...I like having 10 fingers lol.

A lot of the men at work their wedding rings vary, the platinum ones wear well but you can see the scuffs etc. Gold wears well but bends easily and the silver ones dull and scuff easily.

Ive got a platinum one, I may try and wear it at work and keep e-ring safe somewhere.

I met someone who owns a jeweller's where I live who works for C*rtier and did ours for 1/3 price. They are beautiful!
