    Hi all,

I'm having a bit of a dilemma. We're getting married at my Fiances parents place, outdoors ceremony then reception in marquee, my issue is with the toilet arrangements. I've looked into hiring luxury portakabin style toilets which could be decorated to look amazing however they cost a fortune - cheapest quote is over £1000, then there's the option of less luxury portable toilets which i'm not really happy with the last option is that the property is a guest house so there are 6 different loos nearby however they are about a 30 second walk from the marquee, which may be too far after everyone has sat for the speeches and dinner??? I'd love to go with the portakabin but can I really justify that amount of money??? Are toilets at a wedding that important??? Is a 30 second walk too far???

Any help would be greatly appreciated guys as i'm struggling with making the decision.

How many people do you have attending your Wedding??
It wouldn't bother me having to walk 30seconds but you have to think about elderly people that may be there??
How does the future IL's feel about people wandering around their property??

    Hope this helps??

    :-)

Thanks Rachael. We're having 120-150 guests, I know that's kinda what i'm thinking, the elderly and the fact that it may rain and they'd have to go outside. There's a river that runs just behind the marquee and H2b suggests that the boys use that to pee :) His folks are happy to allow everyone to use the toilets in the houses, that's actually what they're doing for his Sisters wedding in August but i'm just not that keen on the idea. I've no idea why it's so expensive, my friend say to contact construction companies about it but when they know it's for a wedding they double the quote! I'd be cheaper building toilets in the shed :) x

My one concern with the guest house loos is, are they close together? Ie if I go to one, and there's a big queue, do I have to trek to another one somewhere else? Also, are they easy to find/will you have signposts if not?

I don't think 30 seconds is too far at all, and if I'm at a house party, where toilet facilities are limited, I tend to make sure I don't wait until I'm actually bursting before heading to the loo lol; and I think most people do the same. But, if the toilets are spread out, and people might end up trekking back and forth to find a vacant one, that could be annoying.

Could you perhaps get one or two cheaper ones, and also use the guest house ones? That way people have a choice. I personally would probably make the walk to the guest houses and use those, as would most of my friends, but I think that men would be less bothered.

I know Georgi but I feel like i'm lying to them...they always ask what it's for, same with the catering and I feel the need to tell them the truth :) My OH says to tell them we're doing some building work or something and guests need toilets but I just can't bring myself to lie...maybe I should put him in charge of the toilets tho that may be asking too much of him on top of his long list of stag do and music!!!

Yeah barbie, they're quite close together and we could put up some signposts. That's a good point about people realising and going before they're bursting...I suppose that's down to them :) That's actually a great idea...then the girls could go to the nice ones with all their toiletries and mirrors when they want to or later on in the evening when they're past caring about touching up make up could use the others. You might have cracked it :) Thanks x

Where would you be able to site the portacabins if you got them?

Personally I hate portaloos, I would avoid them if you can :) Maybe make most of your available loos ladies and just a or 2 for the men as they don't take so long. Also it's not lying if you say you are having a party, you don't need to mention that you are having a party to celebrate your wedding! xx

My guests will need to walk from one end of the hotel to another as they only have one set of ladies. In pubs people often have to go upstairs or around corridors or other bars etc so I think yours will be plenty close enough. I too hate portaloos and would prefer to use a fixed room. The elderly /infirm will be used to planning out toilet travel times lol - just going upstairs in a house can take longer than that.

Also as said above, saying a celebration, family event etc is completely truthful without mentioning wedding

I'd put the portakabin round the side of the marquee. I might try find some that haven't already quoted me and just say there's a party or renovation works happening. We've got his sisters wedding happening at his parents guesthouse in August so we've tried to get discounts with the marquees etc for booking twice but not everyone wants to. One thing i've learned through this tho is that you never really need to pay full price for everything, especially if their competition is a bit cheaper.

I'm liking the idea of couple of cheaper portaloos just for men, instead of the luxury trailer for everyone. Could trial it at SIL's wedding and then use it for ours if it goes okay :)

Also, I'd keep one of the toilets in the house just for the immediate bridal party??
Tell them but no one else!!!

I've been to enough motor biking races and festivals for Portaloos not to bother me!!!
Tho, if I was in a Wedding dress I think I'd probably change my mind!!!!

    :-)

Haha...I know I definitely don't fancy backing up into a portaloo in my gorgeous dress :) My fiance has just suggested that we put a marquee over the toilets and put a table, big mirror, girlie things in there too so they can still have some little luxuries, could be another option. x

I live in Scotland so there's no need for the licence thing. It is amazing that we can do it but it's difficult to organise when it's not been used for a wedding before, lots of logistical issues. It would be soooo much easier to just have the wedding in a regular place where things are set up for weddings. We've given ourselves more work, need to organise ovens, fridges, freezers, lighting, sound around the pond where the ceremony will take place, heating, staff, glasses, cutlery and crockery etc. We've got a practice run with sil's wedding in August so hoping we can sort any issues at hers :) x

My friend had 3 loos at hers that were in the same little block and had 2 blocks, one for males one for females. Herwedding was in a marquee and nobody thought anything of the loos, in fact they were fine!!
So as long as you try and get the ones that have sinks and hand dryers your guests would be fine with them i think!!
i work for a hire company and have some contacts in loo hire if you want to message me directly.

p.s you must tell them its for a party!!! do not mention the W word. xx
