anyone know where to get a plus size wedding dress either to hire or to buy that doesnt cost the earth. The only nice ones i have seen are online and imported from the states which makes me a little nervous as i wont know what it looks like on me and then the sizing issue honestly its getting depressing any ideas ??????

I was nervous too coz Im a size 20 - but the shops i have been in have all had plus size dresses in and i found a style that suits me. Maybe you should make an appointment with some bridal shops and try on a few of their gowns anf get an idea of what you want? x

im anywhere between a size 24/26 right up to a 30/32 depending on what im wearing been in one or two shops but the dresses are all so expensive for a plus size and as its the second time around for us both we really dont want to spend a fortune im wondering if about the cost of having it made instead but not so sure hahaha

    Hiya

Have you thought about searching ebay but for dresses within a certain radius to where you live so that you could go and try a dress on if you find it within your budget?

I understand your problem as I will be in a similar position to you when we book a definate date and start looking at wedding dresses.

Hope this may help, there is lots of plus size dresses on ebay I have just checked.

Have you tried looking for a plus size shop? I know there is one in Derby so there should be others around near you. The whole shop has decent sizes in for you to try on so you can get an idea of what looks good on you. They may have some in the sale rail. Either that or check out preloved too as sometimes they advertise on there. I'm a plus size and got mine from the bridal shop but paid full price for it. Most of the sample dresses in bridal shops only go up to about a 20 for some strange reason but you could ring around and see if any of them have anything bigger to try on. You can usually squeeze into a dress that is a size smaller or two than what you are and not do it up at the back but after that you will struggle to get out of them again.

Its about time more shops stocked bigger sizes as its shocking when most of them are 10-12. Most women these days are at least a 16 and brides have a right to look amazing on their wedding day no matter what size they are.

I have to admit that dresses designed for plus size are better than 'normal' dresses that are made bigger as they are deisgned for curves although I find maggie and Benjamin Roberts dresses are built for sucking in a waist. That is the main reason I fell in love with my dress lol.

Make sure that the dress and underwear isn't too tight though or you will feel uncomfy all day and also at the risk of having 'fat back' rolls at the back of your dress which looks worse than if you had nothing underneath sucking you in.

I'm a plus size as well and I know there is a few shops near me that up to a size 30 though I haven't physically checked them out yet as we've only just set our date and I want to shed alot of weight, I live in Northern Ireland and I discovered these shops went to plus sizes by researching them online otherwise I neverwould have known and I would have been far too embarrassed to walk in the shop and ask! How soon would you need to start searching for the bride and bridesmaid dresses, 6 months before?

Generally my local lady says you need to get the order in for the dress 6 months before (unless you find something off the rail in a sample sale), which means you have to have chosen it by then, so I'd start looked a couple of months before that.
