I'm a size 16 and want to get down to a size 12. Im not earning enough to afford the gym but do walk almost everywhere. I just started swimming on saturdays for 1 and a half hours and strictly started from today no cheese and no takeaways for the next 3 months. As I don't really like potato I eat pasta for the carbs. Any advice as to what I could change will be much appreciated.

Sarah, can I suggest that you have a look into protein powders? The type that bodybuilders use? Lol. If you increase your protein intake and reduce your carb intake you should lose weight steadily with regular exercise. You could use the protein to replace your lunch/dinner. Rule of thumb is balance your plate with more protein than carbs. I lost 1 and a half stone in 3 months by increasing my protein and by going to the gym once or twice a week to lift weights - I didn't bulk up, I actually leaned out! Good luck xx

Do u have an iphone? There is a great app called ...my fit ne ss pal...(no spaces just want sure if I was allowed it) u can scan ur food bar code to get the calories or search for them, I lost nearly 2 stone from just using that, now I have started doing Zumba to lose a bit more and it's great to do in a class but I also do the DVD at home which is good too (and cheaper!!) xx

Would you try a vegetarian or vegan diet for a month? Cutting out animal fats, along with regular exercise, will certainly help you lose weight and detox your body. Even if you just done a few days a week vegetarian and then ate white meat the rest of the week. Also, why not try yoga? you dont have to go to class, there are loads on tubeYou! Xx

I would personally recommend slimm*ng wo*ld I've lost lots of weight for this diet and I love my food, it really works for me.
It's £4.95 a week but if this isn't in your budget then you could be cheeky and go for first week for your registration and books and then afterwards just do it at home x

Also for excercise I just stick to dog walking and Dance central on Xbox 360, there's a fitness section in there and it's a great workout x

Erm, it may seem obvious but why not go running????? Running is free and easy. And a great way to lose weight and get a lean physique. I'm tall and even when I was at my low weight I was a size 10/12.

Also, use a calorie and diet diary such as "My Fitness Pal" (it's free!) to make you aware of how much you're eating and to help you eat to lose weight in terms of balancing protein, carbs and fats.

Be careful when selecting products marketed as diet or low fat etc. The sugars can be ridiculously hight which can make your blood sugar spike and leave you feeling hingry.

Mostly you need will power and to control portions coupled with about 45 mins of cardio 5-7 times a week in a claorie deficit to lose weight. Jogging/running is easy and free and will burn more calories in a fixed time than walking will. Plus your heart will benefit from it too. And you'll burn more calories (although don't count these as you can't be accurate) afterwards. Plus it'll help you sleep which in turn helps with appetite surpression etc. And hard cardio surpresses your appetite too as more blood is pumped to the muscles and less to your digestive system!

Losing weight isn't easy and there are no quick fixes.

Small changes add up though... change to skimmed milk or unsweetend almond milk, avoid adding sugar to tea/coffee or just have hot water with a lemon slice (which also acts as an appetite surpessant!)

Green tea, due to its antioxidant effects and high caffeine content amongst other good things in it, will help boost your metabolism, help premature ageing and help improve circulation and skin condition.

Also, as a confidence boost you could try a universal body contour wrap at a salon, they cost about £60-£70, but if you go to the salon, you are guaranteed, across your body, a 6" minimum loss and guaranteed for 30 days... if it doesn't stay, you get a rewrap and if unsuccessful your money back.

Weight falls off quicker the larger you are in general, and slows down as you hit your target weight. Don't just look at the scales though, go by body size measurements as if you start exercising, you will over a few weeks build up some(we're talking not very much) muscle and also you may hold on to water after hard cardio.

If you can't run, use you tube for workout videos you can do in your own home.

I have gone from being a chubber to a well educated health and fitness amateur . So I'm not talking from a marketing perspective, but a "I have tried everything under the sun and worked hard to get where I am!" perspective!

Avoid using your car where physically possible. If its less than 3 miles and you don't have any timescale to work to, walk, for small shops like for bread/milk, take a rucksack and walk to your local shop... even if its a few pence more expensive, you've save that few pence off buying fuel and you'll have contibuted and invested in your figure and long term health benefits.

Never shop when hingry. be strong and resist buying biscuits/choc and only do big shops after eating. When choosing treat items, choose something in single portions or that are better options, such as dark chocolate.
