UKbride is thinking of running a simple monthly competition to win amazing prizes, like a honeymoon in the Maldives, New TV's, iPads, wedding dresses, holidays, jewellery, and loads, loads more.
We think that only Power Users should get the chance to win the prizes. Membership to become a Power User would need to go up to £20 a year or pay £2.50 per month.
We would also give Power Users 100 extra tickets into the main competition (to win the £25,000 wedding).
I know quite a few of you were miffed with previous winners not being regular users of the site. This new idea would look after regular users (or those that never use the site put have paid for the privilege).
Natural Power Users (those with more than 100,000 loyalty points would all be entered into the monthly prize draw and no further purchase is necessary. Those that are not natural Power Users but have paid to become a Power User would also receive all of the new benefits.
Even after you are married you will still be entered into the draw monthly but if you have not logged into the site for more than 3 months you would lose Power User status and then not be entered into the competition! We would also happily swap any wedding related prize to an equivalent generic prize if you preferred.
The odds of winning at the moment are at around 50 to 1. (Obviously we will be promoting this heavily).
Please answer the poll and leave any comments here. I want your feedback.
What if we already pay now to become a power user, the £9.99, or earn our PU points by getting all 5 hearts? Would we still have to pay? x
CommentAuthorprincess_alicia
i think its a good idea as its not fair for non regular users to win things. it should be about loyalty :) x x

Hear hear for loyalty :) x

Sorry don't thibk its fair only for it to be power users as it looks like you are favouring the power users. By time some peole become power users all their wedding stuff will be booked and paid for. How about doing a quarterly comp for people who are on here most of the time.
An idea for you
Every 2 weeks you put up a "password" which is only on for a certain amount time in the forum we have to collect so many passwords and then email the passwords to you paying a £1 to enter and then all them names are put into a draw ?
Needs tweaking but that way regular visitors get some rewards

If you become a natural Power User you are in the monthly draws.
If you chose to pay now at £9.99 you would be in the draws (if we chose to give away prizes)... at the moment its just an idea. You would have to take the risk to buy now at £9.99.
I'm on my 4th <3 now anyway, so probably won't pay for it, I like the idea of like buzzwords given out, maybe you can make something on the site, somewhere random each month, where we have to click to enter. Like a picture of a crown, turned into a link, as an entry device, if you get me, we'd have to search the site and look all over, but at least we'd be participating properly x

Mrs Hall2b - We would also happily swap any wedding related prize to an equivalent generic prize if you preferred.
I like the idea of losing power user status if you dont log in for 3 months..... will be less chance of a non active member winning a prize that the rest of us have earned/paid for! :-)

No, I don't understand..
As a 'natural power user' what would I be having to pay? Nothing ever? Something eventually? £20 now?

The way I read it dp if your a power user now weather you earned (like me hehehe) OR paid for the privelige, then you automatically get entered and dont have to pay anything or anything extra.

Well yeah, that's what it sounded like to me Hails.. But not getting us to pay anything didn't sound much like one of J' schemes :P (sorry J)
Plus I'd be surprised if I'm entered for free forever, and people who join later pay £2.50 a month for the privilege. I'd be a mite annoyed if I were one of the paying newcomers and found out others were on an indefinite freebie!
CommentAuthorx~Hails~x
lol good point especially as ive just realised the £20 is yearly as well lol I thought that was a one off payment like the £9.99 is now!! Hmmmm

Newbies can also join the site for free and earn their loyalty points and then become Power Users!
Right ok, so you pay £2.50 a month until you're a 'natural' power user? Ok, that seems fairer :)
And you say cynic, I say realist :P
CommentAuthorlinzi
i think this is an ace idea. however my one worry is, is that if natural power users get it all for nothing, people are going to be flooding the boards with pointless posts to try to get their 5 stars so they can enter the draws for free.

Linzi we are already working on a new points system Which would mean no points for forum posts!

sorry I still don't understand! sorry for being dense! who pays and who doesn't? I am a power user which I earned without paying, so am I in all the draws? Or do I pay £2.50 a month for the extra stuff?

I THINK the deal is this -
Natural power users (ie those with 100,000 points) are in without paying anything extra. Those who have already bought power user status at £9.99 are ok, and wouldn't have to pay any more than they already have. Those who join AFTER the scheme starts will either have to become natural power users, or pay the subscription. (This is an incentive to pay the £9.99 now, since you won't be paying £20 a year in the future - although as J says this is a 'risk' since the scheme is not 100% confirmed)

Oh ok cool I think I get it! I'd still wait til I was a natural power user instead of paying 20 quid. Even if it took me a few months I'd wait probably.

And I have to say I don't agree about it being wrong to 'favour' power users - I mean, surely that's the point of any loyalty scheme, is to favour those people? And you can buy power user status, if you don't want to earn it! So it's open to everyone!
CommentAuthorDrunchPunk
And Nic - if you hadn't admitted it, he'd never have known :P

just realised I sounded really miserable there lol - not wanting to part with 20 quid but I'm constantly skint :P - I do think it's a good idea tho cos I'd have maybe paid it last year when I joined, when I wasn't saving quite so hard. But I'm glad it's free for power users x

If no one pays to be a Power User and I give away thousands of pounds worth of my childrens inheritance every month (I sounded like Theo Paffitus then), why would I do it?
You know I'm mercenary DP just trying to be mercenary and fair at the same time! Lol
Hang on one cotton picking minute - if you're going to cut and paste my comments J, at least read them properly!
I'm on YOUR side! I was remarking on a comment made earlier that to make it only open to Power Users could be seen to be 'favouring Power Users' - which I was saying was fair enough ,and if you want to be a Power User that badly then buy it.
