I have a platinum engagment ring but budget wont let me get platinum wedding ring in the style i want??!! Can u wear white gold with platinum? xx
CommentAuthorLittle Kettle
There have already been a couple of threads started on this, Vix. You might want to use the search function to find them. I was told that it wouldn't be a good idea as platinum is a harder metal than gold and that in time, it may wear down the gold. Hx

I don't think you can, but I've heard you can wear palladium (which is half the price of platinum) with platinum x Some jewellers have said you can, some have said you can't - I didn't want to risk it, so I went for plat, but if your budget doesn't allow that, I'd soo palladium is defo the best bet! x
yes hun and I am prob in the same boat as you, No one will know and who cares what anyone else thinks :0)
In the future i will get a platinum one and get it blessed. xxxx

When i got married first time round the jeweler said they had to be the same something along the lines of the platinum being worn away by the white gold

I seem to remember that if you have white gold next to platinum one of them would get worn more, but can't remember which. I would get paladium which looks like platinum but will be much cheaper ad as they're made of the same base materials won't wear against each other xx

Hi VIx
I don't want to contradict anyone on here but we sell 1000's of rings everyyear and many of our customers choose different metals. If you search through this section for posts by smooch you'll see that we have explained it before.
Our advice would be to use Palladium as it is in the same family of metals as Platinum, looks identical, wears very well and WON'T cause any damage to your engagment ring. Neither will your engagement ring damage the palladium wedding ring.
The only reason not to use White Gold is that, as many people have pointed out, white gold can start to 'yellow' after a few months and will need redipping. Palladium NEVER yellows and is cheaper than 18 carat white gold anyway. It is fully hallmarked and is very good value for money. It is also excellent for setting diamonds and other stones.
There is a big misunderstanding about the hardness of diferent metals but as our friends at the UK Assay Office (who are THE experts in precious metals) say - there is no evidence that different metals will wear each other in normal daily use. If you were to put them on a machine and constantly rub them together under pressure - the harder one would wear the softer one away. However this won't happen for decades if you are just wearing them on your hand.
In any case, because of the various processes used in making rings, it is quite possible to have a gold ring that is harder than a platinum ring.
Our advice is DON'T WORRY. If you want a more detailed explanation please call the smooch customer service line or send us a message.
