    Hi everyone,

We are hoping to get married on the 29th June next year.

Going to look at venues at the weekend *yay*

I am hoping that my son will be allowed to give me away, but not sure if at 11 he will be allowed. My mum and dad split when I was younger and both have new partners, so don't think that it would be fair on my dad (not a great relationship) or on my stepdad so if my son isn't allowed then my mum will give me away.

Edit...i changed your title hunni to get more ppl to respond :-)

Yeah like Kaya said, I think you can have whoever you want to give you away but your witnesses will have to be 18 and over I imagine..

Exciting weekend ahead for you though :-) xx

i was told my son Max could give me away if i wanted (he's 7) but he couldn't be a witness. I've decided on my mum giving me away though as Max has got another roll. We're having a civil ceremony so not sure if it's different for a church or not x

    Thanks for renaming!!

I think it will mean more as it kind of means that David is agreeing to us getting married (he punched the air when we told him we were getting wed!! :)

We aren't having a church do as neither of us are churchgoers and this is his second time lol!!

That is such a great idea! I love that you want your son to give you away. I am sure you would be able to as you can walk down on your own if you want so I don't see why you can't have anyone you want to walk you down the aisle

I was told my son could give me away he is 9, but he chose to be 2nd best man instead as he wants to be with the Boys, him and my partner are inseparable at the moment, which i am over the moon about as he is from a previous relationship. Only moan he has had is that he cant go on the stag do so now my partner is arranging laser quest stag do for the younger boys of the bridal party. Any excuse !!!

Hi, my eldest son, Spencer, is giving me away... he will be 8. He is so excited about it and tells everyone. When I tell people they get a bit emotional... I think it's a nice touch. My dad isn't in my life and my mum wouldn't feel right somehow.

    Here comes the bride......

Rocket I get the same reaction too - just haven't told the wee man yet, going to take him out for dinner and tell him xx

I know that witnesses have to be 16 or over but not sure about the actual giving away, as my dad is unable to attend the wedding due to health reasons we have opted for my son David to walk me down the aisle but for my brother then to do the actual giving me away bit (he will just wait at the bottom) that way David gets to feel a part of the ceremony and he gets to sit on top table too (which he is more pleased about lol) xx

My son is my 'best man'. He's nearly 18 and is helping with plans as well as helping me get ready and giving me away. He's going to be a witness too.

I would have liked my eldest son to give me away, he will be 15 by then, but i think my dad would be really upset, so we've decided that my son's going to be the 1 and only Usher instead, that way he still get a special responsibilty x

any age can give you away.. as for witnesses i asked at the local reegistrars office when we went to give notice they said there is not a set age as long as they are mature enough to be able to stand in a court to give evidence then they can be witness.... would check though. i am still wondering why she mentioned giving evidence lol im marrying him nothing more..

My dad has been none existant for most of my life so he doesnt have an invite never mind having the pleasure to give me away. I have asked my brother to give me away as my son will be 4. If he would have been older I may have had him as it is a really sweet idea.

I have been to a wedding where the brides son gave her away. the groom, best man and usher were all military and wore uniform so the son wore his granddad's medals.
