    Hi all,

Who is having a plain band?

I've found a gorgeous sapphire and diamond ring but its not a band. Does it matter?

I'm having a plain band, palladium one. My engagement ring sticks out quite far so am going to get an eternity band to go with it so that will be my bling.

I think go for what you want don't worry what everyone else does, your the one who has to wear it for the rest of your life.

without pics its hard to tell. However, if you think its brill and it goes well then go for it. I have chosen an eternity ring for my wedding ring because I preferred the look. Go for it if you like it.

i've got the plainest wedding ring in the world! its a 2mm 18carat white gold band, but I wanted something really understated so as not to take the attention away from my gorgeous engagement ring! The other thing is, that my e ring has a 0.5 carat diamond in it, so really didn't need any more bling as I personally think it would look a bit tacky with too much xxx

I've got a plain band, its a 3mm palladium one. I really don't wear jewellery so one with a stone would stick out like a sore thumb on me. My engagement ring is fairly plain too, its a white gold band with the tiniest diamond known to man on it!

Personally I prefer plain wedding bands so it can't be mistaken for anything else like an eternity band or something. The sparkly ones do look lovely though. It's a matter of choice, definitely go for what feels right for you as you're the one wearing it for the rest of your life!

My engagement ring has lots of sparkle so will be getting a sterling silver wedding band as I agree with sara anything other than a plain band to go with my engagement ring would look tacky on me. Go with what you want and love, you have to be happy with it!x

I think it's just a matter of personal taste.

I prefer plain but I did try some sparkly ones on and understated sparkle like Nicsquareds pic or Antonia described did compliment my engagement ring the most. However that is not me so I will stick to my first instinct of hzving a very plain rounded titanium band but I want a visible engraving on the outside aswell as one on the inside.

    Thankyou for all your comments.
I went today and got my ring :)

I love it so much its beautiful! Its sapphire and diamond - yellow gold. Its not at all like a traditional wedding ring but i tried them and and they didn't suit me at all. Ive had people say it should be a plain band because it will last but i've replied: A ring symbolises your marriage, sometimes certain areas break apart but you CAN always fix it. If i lose a stone, it can be mended. (I got the 5 year cover so it will be fixed for free :D ).

Finally, i think ive been watching/reading too much wedding stuff ;)

haha lala! I must admit I like a bit of bling and even though my engagement ring is gorgeous and blingy, I dont think a plain band would go. Therefore, I have an eternity ring as a wedding ring that is half way around with diamonds (0.80-0.90ct) to match the shoulder diamonds that are going in my e.ring (0.90ct solitaire and 0.5ct shoulder diamonds). Below is a rough pic of mine and I love it! I defo think plain would look silly on me against my e.ring.

Just a quick update, i'm going to have my nans ring aswell which is a plain gold band. So when i have to take my sparkly one off, i've still got one :) Has anyone got an reviews on white gold rings? A friend of mine said her ring is white gold and the white gold rubbed off and underneath is yellow gold. Apparently the same with all white gold rings??

Apparently you have to have white gold dipped because it looses its lustre.

white gold is actually yellow gold that has been rhodium plated so after a while the rhodium coating wears down, showing the yellow gold underneath. Its quite normal and you'll need to get it re plated every now and again. I have mine done every year, not because it needs it that often necessarily but because I like it to look super sparkly and would rather pay more to have it done regularly :o)

Yea thats true about white gold which is exactly why I hate it. I'm quite hard going on my jewellery and with the vile soap I have at work white gold would probably need replating every 6months (and yes smooch I know you do free re-plating but your rings are way to expensive for my budget)
Argos do a wishbone silver and bling set for around £15 that fits perfect around my e ring.

Hi. Can I be pedantic and clear up the information about white gold?

There are various grades of white gold and all of them are rhodium plated but the time is takes for them to show yellow varies hugely.

Some 'white gold' rings are, as mentioned above, just yellow gold plated with rhodium to make them look white. This will wear off very quickly - sometimes within a few weeks of being bught. These are the least expensive'white gold' rings.

Next - If you buy 9ct white gold which costs a bit more it may be gold which has been whitened by adding silver. But it is still very pale yellow. So it gets coated with Rhodium and takes a bit longer to start showing the pale yellow colour. These cost a bit more than the cheapest rings but you won't need to pay for them to be plated as often.

Some 18 carat white gold is made using silver and this will still need to be plated fairly often.

The best grade of white gold is the type we and a few other jewellers use.

It has palladium added and this makes it much whiter but it still gets a rhodium plating because this makes it really white and shiny. This takes much longer to fade and even when its a few years old will still be relatively white.

Most jewellers will replate rings free of charge for a year or two .

    Hope that helps

The stone on my engagement ring is a huge square shape, going to be really hard to even find a wedding band to go with that.
I think it doesnt matter what you get if you like it.
My OH an I prefer mens wedidng bands anyway, but would like a small amount of sparkle, maybe one - three stones in or something like that.
