I have been trying to get in contact with our photographer for a while now and i was just about to give up and use the one my friend had for her wedding when i get an email from him.

    To Steph

Really sorry I have not been in touch i have been very busy. If you want me to book your date for your wedding then you will have to pay me all the money up front so i can book it.

    Thanks

    I emailed back

I am not been funny but i have not heard from you in 3 months and you email wanting all the money for the photography. How do i know you are going to turn up on the day.You said when i spoke to you first you want 25% when i book and the rest on the day. I was happy to do that. I dont mean to be rude but how do i really know you are going to show up if i pay you it all now.

He emailed back saying if you want me pay me now if not then i will book someone else.

My friend gave my number to the photographer she had and she is coming to my house on the 25th to come and see us and show us what she will do and what it will cost. She is nice nd martyn has met her so she knows him too. Yes she is a bit more expencive but she is known by martyn and my best mate so i would rather give her the money and have her turn up then the other one.

mods sorry couldnt find a photography bit and it had something to do with money so put it there.

I think you'd be right for going with her. If the other seams a bit dodgy to you then you'd be best to stay well clear.
This other Photographer seams a little rude to me anyway, and I wouldn't want someone like at my wedding.

Sounds a bit dodgy to me! I'd definately meet the other lady though. I'm sure there will be a few other photographers in your area, maybe you could arrange to meet them too and compare their prices before you decide.

I've got the oppostie problem, I've met a few photographers at fayres and what not, but I have a few in mind and am still undecided so every weekend I get phone calls off them to see if I have decided on them yet..it's really off putting! xx

The cheek of it! Understandable if your wedding was at short notice but you've got 18 months to go! Something tells me this photographers company is either going into liquidation or they're just plain dodgy. Go elsewhere definitely. The fact they hadnt been in touch for 3 months says it all! Little more money for a lot more peace of mind x

I would go elsewhere too, they should only ask for a deposit from you to hold the date and then remainder of money is normally paid month before the date. This sounds like you would never see him or the money again. Stay clear.

thats terrible what the photographer said! id have told him to stick it up his jumper!!! he would need to send you a xontract out first fro you to read and go through and discuss your requirements before you decided to pay him even a small deposit! our photographer is amazing. we get 2 photographer and 2 videographers, 200 printed photo in an album ( 150 7 x 9 & 20 8 x 10! PLUSa huge portrait size one. we also get 5 x 2 hour long DVD's. Our one is presented in a wooden case and the others are to give out to family. He has been highly recommended to us. he has sent us out 2 demo DVD's and when we booked him, we only had to pay him £70 deposit which is 10% because the total is £700!!!! and when we paid our deposit....he then sent us more Demo DVD's of weddings he has videod and photographed at our actual Venue so we could get sme ideas! AMAZING! and he is unbelievably cheap!!! xxx

I would say you have done the right thing as no photographer should be demanding the whole balance up front like that. Yes you leave a deposit then in our case we pay a month I think before the wedding date but that is standard practice. Its not like you are getting married soon either so it sounds like he is short of money and wanting to get it out of people now.
