Hi girls! I have fallen in love with the idea of having my wedding day filmed, as I'm a bit scatty and won't remember anything about the day itself I like the idea of having it filmed so I can watch it again. The company I have found are great, I cried at their sample footage and I really got on with the guys who do it (which I think is something important). My family are all traditionalists and want a photographer (and so do I if I'm honest) I like the idea of the formal photos being taken. Problem.....The DVD will cost £1500 and photgrapher about the same so I'm told. My mum has said it should be one or the other. I want both but is that a bit too extravagant?
CommentAuthorBee
its up to you, if you think you can afford it, then go for it. you will get to see all the bits you missed with the dvd. x
CommentAuthorBecky
Yeah they capture everyone arriving at the church plus they film at both the bride and grooms place where they are getting ready so we would get to see each other looking all nervous and everything x
CommentAuthorMrs Turps (Nicpep)
wow, I dont know too much about it, but £1500 to video the wedding seems a lot. I would have expected it to be under the £500 mark

yea they are good, well its up to you. i think if its something you really want, you should go for it and not let anyone influence you on what you should do. remember its your day and you know what will make it perfect for you x
Yeah it is expensive. Its filmed in HD all edited to music of your choice. you get 5 copies of the dvd. I saw another company who do it for £600 but it just seemes cheap and tacky. The footage was all shaky as if an old uncle had filmed it on a handheld camera lol x
CommentAuthorx~Hails~x
see if you can get a family member or two to film it for you, then spend money on the photo's. or the other way around???? i'm spending on the photos and my uncle and aunt are filming the day from my h2bs point of view and my point of view in the morning, then going to put together and get the best of both.

hi ya i wanted both, but when i was getting quotes in the region £2000 for just the videographer and then £1000 upwards for photographer we thought we could only have one or the other, but i shopped around and i found a videographer that works with a photographer, and i am having both all day and 5 dvds plus own the rights, for £800. if u really want both then keep getting quotes u will find one u are comfortable with in the end xx
cant wait to renew my vows, love my hubby sssssooooo much xx

My stepmum's sister had someone film their wedding, and I took my camcorder along too. They ended up throwing away his and keeping mine! To save money why don't you ask a few of your guests to do it, instead of paying a rediculous amount of money for it? All you need is someone with a good view, and a steady hand! xxx
CommentAuthorMrs (Dove) Pidgeon
We decided to spend our money on a good photographer instead of a not-quite-as-good photographer and a not-quite-as-good videographer. We chose photos as these last where as technology such as DVDs changes so fast and a few years down the line you would have to pay out more to change the format (look how quickly dvds replaced videos for example, and how CD players are losing popularity fast). But a photo album should last forever.

Hi Fairytale.
Could you send me some info on who you have booked? I havent been able to find anyone that does both zz
CommentAuthorChrissy
Hi Becky, I was not going to have a photographer but my uncle has offered his services, he is a photographer. I am so set on having the wedding filmed as a memory for all our kids etc after I almost died last year that it seemed perfect. I was then going to get everyone who had a digital camera to take photos and burn them onto discs or upload to a laptop at the venue. Does your videographer offer raw footage? Mine will let me have about 5 hours of unedited footage for an extra £100! Lenik Media is the name of my video man and his portfolio is awesome. My friend had her wedding filmed last year and says it's so much better than photos as she can capture the whole day over and over again. I would personally opt for the videographer or if you can afford it, both! At the end it's your day, have what you really want! Have you thought about having a portrait done after the wedding in all your wedding regalia instead of a photographer? Much cheaper ;o)

I'm just going for a really decent Videographer. Found a company that does the most beautiful Cinematic wedding films. I didn't want a cheesy one doing but wanted an elegant film of my day.

i want both if i can ........my overseas wedding package includes photographer and we will have one of the guest to film it but will then try to book both for the ceremony here
we're having both but we wouldn't be able to if we didn't have a friend who did this before he changed careerer ... some colleges have students that they recommend and then you both get what you want experience for them and great pics or vid for you hope that helps x

i will having a slide show of the pics taken from the valley of fire played during the evening
We are just having the photographer for the whole day so we can get pics from us getting ready right upto our first dance. I know what my H2B's family are like with camcorders so im sure someone will capture the day. Our budget is increasing every day lol, but you only do it once he keeps saying :-) xx
CommentAuthorCarillonVideo
Hi Steffie
Having a video shot of the wedding and then put on display during the evening is certainly possible. A videographer would refer to this as a 'same day edit'. I read an article on a videographer based in America that specialised in this type of shoot. He had a four or five person crew and he charged a premium (meaning a LOT of money!). I haven't heard of any UK companies that do this type of video but if you find one, be sure to let me know. :-)
If you just wanted photos to be displayed from the day, in the evening, I would expect that is a lot easier to do. I don't do photographs myself so I cannot advise you further. Check with some of the suppliers on UKBride - they will be more than happy to help if they can.
Kind regards,
Andrew.

funny i didnt want to film because it cost alot, however saw this company and i cried when i watch the other video they done, i was just imaging my h2b and I. I have to do it because most of our family will not be there as they live in Jamaica. it will cost me 600pound but if it mean my mum and grandparent can see it i will have to get it done. plus i plan on watching every anniversary with h2b and a bottle of champagne. xx

I recon photographer or both because you can flick through a photo album easier they put on a dvd
Dyslexic
its spelt wrong
I No! I Now! I Know!!!!!
I am NOW MRS LONSDALE!!
You may be able to get same day video - but from the videographer's viewpoint that's quite a lot of extra man-power he needs to bring in, or he needs to cut short on something else. So be prepared to pay a little extra and/or be very clear that it won't cut into other shooting time.
As for all the people talking about relatives/friends shooting video or photographs, I have to say you always get what you pay for !!
The reason why you use a pro' is because they have spent years honing their talents in recording perfect images, rather than so-so images. Yes, anyone can point in the right direction and press the button. But do they actually know what the right direction is? Do they know when to zoom in, when to stay back? How to get a perfect steady image? How to shoot to avoid the fire-exit sign? How to handle mixes of artificial and natural light so people don't look green
I can go on about this - yes, a relative can take video / photos. But no, they won't be the same as a professional photographer - by which I mean someone who is charging what they are worth.
Just to pick up on the Blurb books reference. Yes, they're OK quality - but compared to a proper album or wedding book they are not in the same league at all. Also, the professionals will give you a museum archive quality pictures, which means they'll last 100 years or more. Cheaper printers and the cheap weekend warrior photographers certainly won't (they can't afford to).
As for video, you have to figure that your DVD will become an obsolete technology, so make sure you keep transferring it to whatever the new media is as you go along.
Just as a final and complete aside: why aren't you brides asking about getting your album and/or video on your Iphone etc? You should be doing this - show it anyone, anywhere, watch it on your own when you're having a romantic moment.
- Simon Walden, Wedding Photographer
CommentAuthorCarillonVideo
Hi all,
Simon is right. Once your video is finished and you have the DVD, it costs the videographer very little to create short videos of different parts and output them to different formats.
I usually output the highlights section of the video - between two and five minutes depending on the length of the overall video. I am sure many other videographers do the same thing or something similar. Ask your videographer. Brides can then post it on their iPhone, Facebook, MySpace or any number of other social networking sites. They can put it on their own website and email links to their friends and relatives in far away places that couldn't attend on the day. YouTube is another example. If you upload your short video to that site, you can easily embed it in an existing website (this is what I do with my website and my showreel videos) or send the link out in emails. Isn't technology just great? :-)
Kind regards,
Andrew.

why not find a company that does photography and video? I have looked at loads, and most of them were about £2000 for a pretty decent video and photography package.
in the end i have booked two separate companies, my photographer is costing £1000 and video is costing £555 as he is only staying until the first dance.

There are some that do both, however if you have to get them both and can afford it then go for it. Personally its a lot of money so we are just have photographer. you could see if a friend could do it, you could easily put the music on yourself for it

i want a proffessional photographer otherwise my mum would do all the photos and not be in any!! tho i think she will do the video either way same with most photos whether we get a proffessional or not!! but the company we are goin with for the photos also does a video but i dont know the quality as they havent shown us a sample :(

Just be a little careful with the "one company does both" bit. There are lots of photographers who are offering video now, but that does not make them videographers. Video and stills are completely different things both technically and artistically, make sure you're not just getting the guy who usually takes stills suddenly taking video.
Because video has recently become very cheap and accessible to stills photographers a lot of taken up offering, but that don't mean they are good at it.
On the other hand, there are some companies and individuals who do both and who are excellent at both - just make sure you see some samples though.

I'm having a photographer at £500 for his services from 8am til late - although this does not include the photographs and we can choose how we would like them to be displayed after the wedding. I am also having a videographer, but when I say that I've seen their work and they are more than just your normal video on shoulder type. Their website shows a clip of what they do which was just fantastic, so at 1200 for the best package they do (am certain there is a a package around 800ish), I was really pleased to have booked them. If your unsure about a videographer, then you could find who I'm having by typing into google: 1 what we are all having + HD + the disc you watch a movie on. Add all that together and it should come up - if not let me know and I'l wall post if your interested! xx

We are having both, however having paid for the photography we really couldnt afford to pay for a videographer and decided it would be much cheaper and beneficial for us to pay for a decent camera and ask a family member to film it for us. We managed to get a sony camcorder in the sale down from £300 to £129. And will end up paying for a present for the family member. xx

I have just discovered that a guy I work with does videography as a hobby! I saw the film of his granddaughters christening and assumed it was a pro that had done it! It is fabulous, with music and all edited! He has offered his services in exchange for a hot meal and a few drinks!! We were inviting him and his wife anyway!! Looks like I may be having both after all :-) xx

my friend said when she looked back on her video ther was loads of things she forgot and loads of things she missed as she was talking to different people or getting photos, so she has said a video of the day is essential, and the day flys by so you need to watch it back to rememeber everything !
CommentAuthorbride22feb2012
i'm definitely having both - arrange it now, then you can't ever regret it. my videographer is THE best at £2,500 (fx films) and my photographer was £895...
remember though some videographers just have a steady hand and like filming - so see their work first and look at the videos in you tube - there are plenty of sponsored wedding videos on there, so you can see thweir websites and check them out first.
the desposit for my vid was the same as my pics.
this guy is a reall filmographer as supposed to a videographer. the quality is really film-like

Hi Anxious2012Bride,
You are indeed correct. The company you've chosen is a great wedding videographer and their price reflects that. You also give good advice when you say check out the videos on the websites. However, I would extend that advice just a little.... once you have a shortlist of videographers, get in touch with them, discuss your requirements and ask for an example of a completed wedding video.
It's easy to put together a short promo film that is posted to a website or YouTube. The quality (or lack of it) will show when you watch the full video from start to finish.
Also, watching the full video gives you a much better idea of what your own video will turn out like AND you get to pick up some great ideas for your own wedding. :-)
Kind regards,
Andrew. www.carillonvideo.co.uk

We're just having a photographer (storybook album and rest of pics on disc). We considered videographer as well - but tbh it would only be from just before the ceremony to just after - possibly about half an hour so just didn't seem worth it (more money to spend on something else).
CommentAuthorSpecialSundae
We're having a photographer (pre-wedding shoot, all day on the wedding day, post-wedding shoot, leather-bound album, and all photos on CD) for £1400 and a videographer (two cameramen, two or three cameras, editing, highlights, 2 BluRays and 1 DVD) for £799. I wasn't convinced on videographers as so many seem to be SO naff, but we agreed that if we found one we liked we'd pay up to £1000.
CommentAuthormym72
We were up in Gretna over the weekend to finalise things and pay balances etc - and we did discuss it, but I agree with h2b when he said how many times would we actually watch the dvd, compared to looking at the pics or printing more out from the disc (even for extended family)?

We're having both but only because I managed to get a photographer offering a discount on the Gr coupon for £379 instead of £900, and the videographer we have booked was from another forum on here who told us about an offer a company were doing for £99. I had planned on £500 for photography and I've managed to get both for under that! Woop!
Fingers crossed they both work out as fab as their websites/samples though!!!!
