    Hi girlies!

I have asked a friend to be our photographer for our ceremony & reception (and all thats in between!) This morning she emailed to say that, yes, she would love to do it. (Insert HUGE smile here!)
She's not qualified/trained in photography, its been her hobby for years and she is fantastic at it. I have seen all her work and its all so beautiful. To top it off she's lovely and not at all invasive so it will be lovely having her take our photos.

Annny way, I have already agreed to pay her travel expenses and accommodation (which wont go over £200) and we said we would discuss prices for her services next year as she is currently traveling Oz.

Im just looking to find out what everyone else is paying there photographer and what is included in their package?

    Thanks for reading! Ema x

Most people are paying around £1000 for a professional. If your happy go with your friend.

:-o Wow! Sounds like the perfect package but that would push our budget a bit. This is where I get confused as she's not professional so normally wouldn't get professional prices, but, her photos are amazing and I believe you pay for what you get! Do you have wedding photos on your page Dove? Im gonna go have a peek :) x

The prices for professionals very HUGELY!
Obviously if its a friend doing it for you you want to be fair but you don't want to pay stupid amounts.
Some of the prices i have seen on here range from £200 to £2000, mine is £1250.

I think the best thing to do babe is work out what you want from the day ie getting ready to 1st dance etc then how many photos and what type of album you or if you
want a cd,then discuss it over with your friend and see what she says?
Because you obviously want to cover her costs, ie printing, labour etc but you want to pay her a reasonable rate without going into hundreds of pounds if you see what i mean???

Thank you Hails! I couldn't think of the words but thats totally what I mean! I know she'll ask me what Im thinking of, price wise and I don't know what to say without being cheeky or breaking the bank! She's not at all greedy and is genuinely shocked/happy that I asked her as she hasn't done weddings before.
I think if I start the discussion at £500 + travel & accommodation expenses then that wouldn't be cheeky and we can go from there? Does that sound fair? x

Dove you looked beautiful! The bridesmaids dresses are lovely too & the cake looks fab! You would think they wouldn't be copyrighted as its fab advertising of their skills - especially on here! x

hi! we are paying for the whole day being covered. from us getting ready to the first dance. All our pictures will be put on a cd and we will have all rights to the pictures and not having them put in a album at the moment as we can't afford it and we'll do it ourselves at some point.
    All that for £600

ill put the name of them on your wall and you can see the quality of their pics

    xx

the cheapest i have found is £400 for what we need, most quotes were around £1000!!!!!!! we're debating weather to get a friend to take the photos and just buy a decent camera in the sales after xmas. we're only having a small wedding and i am a little camera shy so we just want enough so we have an album, not be followed around all day having photo after photo. hope it all turns out well for you x

we do have some good photographer friends and family so i think we might just end up with them. i know they will create some lovely images of the day but dear me the money is just outrageous (she says sounding like a cheapskate lol)

    Wowee £600 sounds good!

Yeah I'm keeping it in mind that things could change so Chris's granddad is our back up photographer just incase she likes Oz so much she decides to stay!

You never know she may not want any thing as it will look fab in a portfolio but I think thats wishful thinking! I love her style of photos though so I hope when the day comes shes there :)

If you have FB check her photo page out, its Lucy Alice Photography. I love her outdoors photos and as our ceremony will be outdoors on the Isle of Skye I'm hoping for similar but natural photos. As for the reception I just want random snaps, and I have discussed getting a poleroid (SP) camera and doing funny photos of everyone as the night goes on... cheaper version of a photo booth Lol.

Its crazy how much more excited you get when things start coming into place! Just need to earn some more money to start paying other deposits... aaah x

    60 prints for £230
    120 prints for £260
    or 200 prints for £300
She also puts every pic taken onto disc for an extra £20.
We have chosen option A with the disc so we can have what we want printed.

mines 395, shes good but she doesnt digitally enhance and the photo book i get isnt great. I hadnt really searched round and as my mum was paying for it i went with the cheapest. When i went to a wedding fayre last month all the photographers were brilliant. way better quality products and fell in love with there albums which unfortunately can only be bought through them as there specially selected. Anyhow they were over 1k but i would of so payed that and wish i had looked around more before i chose. So just make sure you've seen other peoples work first. We get all our photos and copyright so atleast i can find a decent album myself. even though im finding it hard I dont want a typical wedding looking album.

Our photographer is a good friend of mine who has studied photogrpahy i've seen his pictures and they are great (would really love him to do some color popping pictures with ours) As my friend is in university in sterling at the moment and yet he has still agreed to do our pictures, we are covering his transport (flight and train) from sterling and also providing him a room overnight at the venue. He has said he will check out all the pictures he has taken before putting them on a disc and sending them to me so i can choose which ones i would like to print (he has full permission to do what he feels best) Would really like to have an ecclectic mix of photos ones that are standard and ones that are a little on the edge. He also knows that he can keep which ever photos he think will help his portfolio too.

£1750 for photography and videography - for that we get a 30 page 12x12 story book album, a disc with all images and 4 copies of the wedding DVD - this was the best deal for everything together I could find, some of them were going way over 2 grand! without the DVD our photos would be £1250 x

I have looked at a few photographers and some are ridiculous prices, like £3000!! The one I think we are going to go with is £1295 for that we get every single picture he takes (minimum of 300) printed & in a proof album but they are proper photos not stamped or anything. All photos on disc, we own the copyright to do what we want with them, a storybook album and 2 smaller versions exactly the same to give to parents. He is a really nice guy too x

We aren't having a photographer, it is such an intimate wedding that we thought we would just supply disposable cameras and hopefully get some funny ones out of it, but will have some nice ones taken by family member, Greg will probably direct them as he studied photography, so should be fun. We just want a relaxed day, not posing for endless shots, but when I did ask around a while ago for a quote I got one for around £1500 for all day. Good luck, sounds like you have got a great deal there! x

[declaration of interest, I'm a wedding photographer]

I'd just like to drop in my usual reminder that cheap is not always good. There are two parts to wedding photographer: (1) being very knowledgeable and quick on the technical stuff, (2) being able to herd a bunch of cats and other people management.

While I understand why you everyone wants to control their budget, remember you are creating your first family heirloom.

So, please ask these questions, and be sure you are comfortable with the answers - particularly when dealing with students, friends of family and other non-pro photographers

    - What happens if the camera fails
    - What happens if they are ill on the day
    - How will they print the images
    - Do they have access to any of the trade-only albums and books
    - Do they have the all the extra equipment needed
    - Can they cope with sun/wind/rain/snow
    - Do they know which poses work best, why and when?
    - Have they shot any kind of wedding or group at all?
    - Do they know the software to do the post processing and editing

None of this is to put you off, but to understand there are risks involved with free/cheap photographers.

I'm paying a lot, but that's because I want a lot. For me, the photos are what will last so I was prepared for money to be spent on them.

I think what you'll have to think about is what work you'll want your friend to do afterwards. If you just want her to take the pics and give you them on a disc, then she would no doubt expect a lot less than if you wanted them beautifully edited and in a luxury photo album. A professional photographer's work is only half done when the photos are taken, because of all the follow-on work that needs doing.
