Hi we are really wanting these things for our weddings but ive been trying to haggle this morning to get some prices reduced and think ive offened the lady at the company, I want to use her Just think these things are so expensive to have! has anyone got any tips on haggling? and what are people paying for their extras?

Haggling is always difficult - I am a nightmare at it!! Have you thought about maybe making them yourself?
You can buy small chocolate fountains a lot cheaper than renting them and Sweet Tables are easy enough to do yourself.
We are having a cookie and milkshake bar which we will be doing all ourselves! :)

My dad always told me when you haggle don't take the micky, they still have to make a profit after all so ask for a MAX of 5% off and any more is a bonus! If you can't get money off ask for extras ie if you want the photo booth ask if they will stay for 3 hours instead of the normal 2 for example!
Don't be put off from doing it but don't take the p either!

that sounds brill bambi but with the guests we have the sweets and chocolate fountain would need to be restocked, we have been quoted £550 and £450 (which I know are very reasonable for what we want), the £450 quote wants the money upfront but the company isn't very local and would prefer to deal with a more local company so I asked the lady who's more local and she was quite short with me and stated that she does not know of any company that are cheaper than her and that we might as well book with the other company then, I didn't ask if she could match just said that we were quoted 450 from another company. feel awful now as I feel ive offended her and she might not let us book her now xx

Have you seen like when people do the photo corner with their photographer for a couple of hours in the evening, and leave a box of props like a mirror with no glass in it, hats glasses throw overs whatever matches your theme, You could just buy your sweets and jars to put on a table and decorate like bambie said ask two people to keep it refilled im asking my bridesmaids to do mine, and then just rent the fountain.
There is a company of the book of face, doing a buy 1 get 1 free on certain things like this, not really looked into it but could give you the name if you want, but i've not had any dealings with them so cant say if any good x

Yes angel please could you let me know who they are? Im a useless diy person lol would much prefer the route of getting someone in :) although I was considering a diy sweet buffet so that is still on option as my fella works in a sweet factory anyway xx

sweet tables are very easy and great fun and i bet your fella has an outlet shop at the factory which means you will save a fortune!! i am also having a cake table just because i love making cakes with all different fun things . i thought bout a chocolate fountin but i have a very irrational (or maybe not ) fear of germs imagine all those people putting fingers in or double dipping :/ kids are monsters for it too think if i was going to have one i would want it kept an eye on but they are so cheap to buy now hiring isnt really worth it in my opinion. We too are doing the props corner as suggested above we have included a chalk board and chalk so they can write captions if they wish but we are just using my lovely ushers to do half hour each (theres 4) on a digital camera . Then we are having disposable cameras on the table for people to tak epics of evrything and anything they like :) but of course if you are determined to hire and if you particularly want to use this lady then start again just contact her and say no offence meant you had simple checked another company but you would prefer to use local if possible and see what she says personally i would be going with the first company simply because i cant believe someone who runs a business can speak that rudely to anyone! its erfectly acceptable to get quotes and barter maybe she has heard a few times about this cheaper company and its bugging her?

she did put a notice up on her facebook page stating that her competitors are getting in direct touch with her brides and she wasn't happy with it, I don't know whats gone off. that does sound a brill idea with the chalk board and and digital cameras, and much cheaper, I think its just the novelty of having a proper photobooth and that isn't it xx

i know my guests are more likely to be up for it if they know the people behind the camera so to speak. i want them to be totally real in what they decide to do and thought they might feel a little uncomfortable being silly if theres a stranger there so this covered all angles! to be fair to the lady i would get mighty peed off if a competitor was stealing my business like that but that doesnt mean she gets the right to take it out on you seems a little unprofesional to be honest.

Surely the lady must be aware that most brides will get more than one quote? and that iris more and more widespread for people to haggle a bit in the prices?
Never mind her being offended, I think I'd be offended in your shoes...it's terribly unprofessional, however maybe she's just having a tough time with rival businesses, however it would make me think twice about using her. A 'sorry, but the lowest I can do is xyz, let me know if I can help further' would have been more appropriate...

I don't think she was offended but probably just disappointed that she wasn't going to get the booking. I say haggle away. Remember they won't accept anything that hurts their bottom line. Perhaps she should have told you where her;s is?

Its madness isnt it I knew from the beginning I wanted a photobooth but was quoted 400 to 450 for that alone. We have chocolate fountain for 100 and pick and mix stand has 22.5kg of sweets xx

Evening though I own our candy cart it still shocks me some of the prices people try to charge and thats only for 2-4 hours, were lucky to be using ours along with alot of wedding bits but I am just setting up 2 small chocolate fountains 1 white 1 milk for the night time do in the uk as once people have alcohol they dont tend to touch chocolate x

Topping up the chocolate fountain would be an issue unless you could buy a batch of cheaper chocolate from a supplier; sometimes you can be cheeky and do it this way like shops do when they order in goods; you could ask your local shop if they could do you a deal on a batch of chocolate?
The candy cart could be easily stocked up; you could just buy massive bags of sweets from bay of e or p-land?
I agree with everyone else about photobooths; I saw on a book of face page that someone has allocated a corner in their venue; supplied cheap dress up things; left their laptop there (securely) with the webcam on so people could take photos. That way you can delete the ones you don't want and keep the ones you do want. You could also decorate it into a mini 'photobooth' ;)

Best way I found to make fountain choc is 7 parts cheap choccy to to one part of galaxy once choccy is melted then add your oil to the right consistency or there is sellers on ebay that do the choccy fountain chocolate that just needs heated up.
Try for a d.i.y candy cart package and see if you can find anyone with bookers, makro or costco card most the tubs are less the £3 each or 3kg bags for around £8 each
For a photo book we have just bought a load of props and we are taking the galaxy not tablet there will be someone round it all night so help take pics and make sure its safe x

Ive got a chocolate Fountain for 4 hours :) Cant wait.
Im doing my own sweet table, we have some LED lights as well so it should make it glow :)
im also doing sherbet with lollies
ive also got three sweet trees, one is flying sauces, one is marshmellow and one is a giraffe (as were getting married at a Zoo)

OMG I have still got loads to sort out, but its all the fun bits now.
Just got to finish getting 1 bridesmiad present, Fil2B present, finishing making the Table Plan and menus. Our final numbers to the venue in 2 weeks.
Ive done the toilet basket and also H2B wedding present arrives tomorrow thank god he is away working for a few days otherwise he would know what it was.

Ive got him a signed steven Garrard football boot with a personalised plaque its really nice and its one that he has worn as well.
I manged to get it from a work contact but still cost me a bit. He has got a signed football shirt as well that I got him a few years ago so I want to get that framed.

Ive just gotton off the phone to him as I was asking him how to get the club to sign a card for him and he said the best way is to have a card already saying to Mr and Mrs .... congratulations on your wedding day and then ask the club to get the footballers to sign it as sometimes they do it as he has done it in the past.
Just make sure you have a story to go along with it like calling your cat Gerrard :)
