    Hey ladies,

sorry really personal question here, I wondered how any of you are dealing with potentially menstruating on your wedding day? I currently don't have any hormonal contraceptives or anything and my period is my "own" and I'm fairly regular, I haven't had any hormonal treatments such as the pill etc in over 10 years as I used to have bad side effects. Most of the time my periods are ok but some are really heavy and I mean excessively with a change every hour! I'm like this now and going on holiday tomorrow to the castle we get married in later on in the year and it got me thinking about the wedding and how it would be awful if I'm like this on the day!

Is there anything I can take to put it off?! How are you planning on controlling yours?

It may be worth seeing your gp or well women clinic as the pill has come on alot in the lst 10 years.
Maybe the mini pill could work for you as it causes less side effects.

The mini pill made me psycho, i was on it 2 or 3 weeks and had to bin it, it sent me in horrendous moods. Its a progeterone only/moslty (?) pill that you take every single day without a break, and you have to have it at the same time each day as well. I was bad enough taking my pill each day lol

I dunno if youre after summat temporary or long term or not, but i had a coil put back in in January, they wouldnt give me the copper coil as it can make you have heavy periods and yours sound liek how mine are when im not on the pill or anything, super plus tampons as well as a sanitary towel. Oh yay :| I have the mirena and that is progesterone, but its concentrated where its needed or something, so the hormones dont affect me lol

I wonder if the injection would be an option for you actually, i wasnt allowed that one either, due to my bad relationship with the mini pill haha, but i think it completley stops your periods and last 3 months, so you could just have one now, see how you get on, then go back in 3 months if it works?

Any monophasic pill/the patch/ring can be used to skip. You just continue to take your pill (use patch/ring) without the placebo or taking a break. I used to do this for years without problems, but then again I never had problems on the standard 3 weeks on 1 week off cycle either.

The injection is perfect.. I haven't had one in 2 and half years.. You have it every 12 weeks, 11 weeks to be safe and if you start it now you shouldn't be having them by the time you get married and then after the wedding / honeymoon just stop getting it.. Xx

I'm glad the injection works for you as it is an incredibly convenient and foolproof form of bc. It however is far from perfect. The injection causes bone loss, and can cause weight gain, abnormal bleeding, and hair loss among other common side effects. I've had friends who've gained several stone on the injection (to be fair it was university so it could have been more lifestyle driven). Plus with the pill you can just stop taking it if you experience problems. If you have problems with the injection you have to wait for it to work it's way out of your system. Combo pills can cause side effects too but most of the ladies I've know with BC problems have been on the injection or progesterone only pills.
I guess my point is no pill is completely safe and side effect free. The choice of which one to use needs to be taken very carefully especially if one has had problems with using hormonal bc previously.

Norethisterone is Pill that can be taken to delay your period - doctors prescribe it particularly for holidays, weddings etc and it can be used for up to two weeks - I think there is another pill that some ladies in here have used.

Might be an option if you aren't wanting it as a longer term form of contraception xx

Thanks for all your advice ladies. I don't think I want to go back to hormone contraceptives long term, I do have a copper fitted coil and have no trouble with it, heavy periods don't bother me and this is the first time I have thought "oh no" so it is just a temporary fix I want really.

I don't know about these period stopping ones, I think I would like to see it every month lol. Also, I would find it difficult to remember every single day to take a pill after being so carefree for so long. Hmmm off to the docs I go I think!

Im on cerazette. It progeterone only, but with this pill i dont get periods at all. a few of my friends are also taking this pill and it has had the same effect on them (infact when i noticed the lack of bleeding i asked their advice and found it was the side effect of the pill).

with this i have 12 hours to take the pill, so i could take it at 10pm on monday, 11pm tuesday and 7am wednesday and it wont matter at all.

i have had no side effects other than i seem to lose weight easier. no headaches nothing. i think its worth asking about.

Im on a pop pill... was on cerezette and didnt have one for like a year but then it got changed for 3months then back on it which caused problems so now on a different one, only month in so think the affects of my old pill are still kicking in. so will have to report back next month haha.
If i still have one by the honeymoon il be going on this pill that stops them completely, might be the one that LauraJo mentioned, but its a pill you take 3 times a day every day for the whole time your away, but guarantees no period and as soon as you stop taking it when home you do have one but yeh, if thats not something your sure about see what the doctor says. xx

I usually take mine of a morning with my coffee :) but sometimes its been 4-5pm when ive remembered and on any other pill that could be disastrous but this one ive been fine with and ive been on it 10 months. I dont have a period, but prior to that I had the implant for 5 years xx

I've tried several different types of pill, the injection and the implant and never got on with any of them. Pills, both normal and mini made me sick, and with the injection and the implant I had my period for three weeks out of every four. I came off all hormonal contraception around 4 years ago and then discovered that I have problem ovaries. This now means that I can have a ten day period, a few days break and then another period straight after, then I might not have one for 6 weeks. So I have no clue when my next period is due, so I completely feel your pain on the whole 'will I /won't I' question.

I know some some doctors and FPC will prescribe a the pill for short periods of time to get you through your wedding or for holidays etc, obviously there are risk involved but it's always worth asking them.

I'm on the pill think mine is called levest, it's just like the microgynon one, i'll just carry my pill over if it works out that my week break is during my wedding.

But as others have said contraception has evolved over the years, especially all the different types of pill you can get. Again speak to your GP and they can advise on what would be best for you to do.

I've tried 5 different pills and I bled through them all, some worked for a while but it always happened eventually.. So badly I had to go on iron tablets.. That's why I had to get the injection.. Luckily I haven't suffered with any of the side effects at all..

seems I'm not alone ladies! as an update, I went to the doctors and explained my situation, I've had a couple of appointments at the family planning clinic and have an appointment booked now for the end of April to have my current copper coil removed and the one of the hormone ones (marena?) fitted.
my last period was hell, 10days of it and hourly changes! my doctor put me on antibiotics too to hopefully clear up some of the nasty spots I get at that time of the month!

Well ladies my appointment didn't really go to plan, I don't really know how I feel about this but it turns out the very bad period I had was likely to be a miscarriage (11 weeks) as i had a positive pregnancy test when I went to have my coil changed, during the examination it was found to be out of place and offering no protection!
Also to further complicate things I had sex the night before my appointment which meant I had to take the emergency morning after pill! So I walked away from what I thought would be a simple coil swap with my head up my a s s. Pregnancy tests I have to take weekly until my period appears, no contraception at all and no sex for a month as that's when my new appointment is to fit the marena!

    So sorry to hear that.
But am I reading that wrong or was it a month ago you had this bleed and you've just had a positive pregnancy test? HCG will drop out of your system within days, a week maximum of a miscarriage. If you're still showing positive tests this long after a bleed, sweetheart you're still pregnant. It's very possible you had a multiple pregnancy and lost one.
Again, apologies if I've got the dates confused or anything?

you are reading it right yes, I had 2 positive tests Two days apart (last week) and a scan in between which they couldn't detect anything on, the test I did on monday was negative. They did say the hormone can sometimes be detected for a few weeks and they won't fit a coil until I have had a period and I have to take the pregnancy tests i left with over the next 2 weeks if I don't get my period (I am actually a week overdue now)
I've been racking my brains with dates and stuff but I just can't figure it out as I don't normally give my periods a second thought! I know I missed one Feb and had the very heavy bleed finish at the start of April.
