I'm sorry - I know I only joined to day and I already have a rant!

    So here goes:
I have blue hair. I've had blue hair for 2 years now and before that I had pink hair for 8 years (except just before I went blue, I was bleach blonde for a holiday rep job over a summer).

Now that I'm engaged and planning is a full throttle, I have a myriad of family members dictating to me that I should have BLONDE hair on my big day as, and I quote,

"You'll look back on your wedding photos and hate what you see,"

It is literally the only thing certain family members (and certain friends) talk about when I see them.

I've taken to telling them I haven't decided between blonde or blue yet, just to get them off my back, but I already know I'm sticking with the blue.
Is the idea of me with blue hair so repulsive? This is who I am! When I had the bleached hair I was very uncomfortable in how I looked; I didn't feel like myself at all.

I'm sorry it's a rant but it's really got to me; anyone else have this kind of experience?

    CJ

    ps. and I'm 27 years old - I'm not a child :(

You should have your hair they way you want it. If you're happy with your choice then you'll be in no way repulsed. It's best for you to be comfortable with yourself then to go blond just to please people.

Thanks for the support girls; I think its such a trivial thing that they're concerning themselves with!

What would YOU think if you went to a wedding and the bride had blue hair? I'd think it was cute as hell!

I think if it was a bride who has always been blonde and went blue just for her wedding day I would be very shocked, but if it was a bride, like you, who always had and suited blue hair I'd be more shocked if they went blonde just for the wedding day... If that makes sense?!
I've looked at your picture and it's a lovely shade of blue, not shocking or strange...

STICK WITH BLUE, it is who you are!!!

They can keep their narrow minded oppinions to themselves! If i could afford the upkeep I would love to have bright red hait but I can't . Who are they to say you'll regret it! Maybe if you went blonde you would look back an regret giving into peer presure Nd not happy as its bot truely you an your style!

Have whatever hair you want! If having blue hair is you, then why would you look back and hate it? That's a silly thing to say. If you had blonde hair just for the wedding day, you'd look back at the photos and not look like yourself. You should look like you for your day. I love it when brides have their personality on show for their wedding day. Ignore the others :)

I could understand someone dishing out advice if you were 19 and just started using non-natural looking colours on your hair, but you have been using them for 10 years!! You know what you like, and as a grown adult, you'll know if you will look back in 30-40 years time and love your pics. People shouldn't be sticking their beak in.

Personally, I hope you're still rocking the electric blue at 70 :)

    I agree with Claire!

I'm a natural blonde but have had range of colours over the last 12 years from black and pink to bright copper- blonde is just not me! When we announced we got engaged, one of the first things mum and sister said to me was "ooh you'll have to go back to blonde now won't you?" Ermmmmm NO! Same about my glasses too!!! Grrrr... I'm sticking to my guns, my hair will be v dark brown/ black on our wedding day and ill decide on the day whether to wear my glasses or not!

    Stay true to yourself x

I totally agree. I had pink hair for years and then I bleached it blonde, I'm natuarally quite dark and i've had people saying to me will you dye it back dark for the wedding? Eh No? But you won't look like yourself if you don't have your natural hair? WHAT? i haven't had my natural hair for years and no one has stopped recognising me??

I also cut it short once and regretted it instantly so have been growing it since and people keep telling me i should put it up for my wedding to be different....erm no, do you think I grew it for years to pin it up? It will be down, it will be loose, it will be curled/wavy and it will be blonde!

Clearly it's not something you're planning on a whim, this is a part of who you are.

Tell them you're planning on a Mohican. But don't worry, it will be blonde!

My mom as started trying to get me to dye my hair. I am a natural red head and proud of it. My mom turned round and asked me the other day to dye my hair a more normal colour! WTH!! Its the colour hair i was born with what can be more normal than that? Fortunatley she cant really get mad at me for not doing what she says because when i was 8 i made a promise to my gran before she died that i would never dye my hair (she always used to tell me that women have wasted thousands of pounds trying to get my colour hair but failed as it is not something you can get out of a bottle)

If you know you would look back at your wedding photo's when you are older and you know you would not regret dying it natural then stick with what your happy with. All you want to be on your wedding day is happy and not regret anything you have chosen to do as it's the one day in which you can not do again. So stick to your guns and do what you want and what you want only! :) x

    Thanks everyone for your support!
It's kinda hard not to feel a bit of pressure as the family members in question, I have a strange relationship with them and a few issues regarding how "successful" I am compared to my twin sister. Oof, but that's for a therapist to sort out haha!

I'm going to stick to my guns but it's going to be uncomfortable when I finally tell them I'm not going blonde.

This community ROCKS guys, seriously, you gals are awesome <3

As the others said, do what you want to do!
Our wedding was very different from the norm and every single aspect was responded to with "you can't do that, its a wedding" !!! We did it anyway and we had the best day of our lives. Don't compromise on what you want unless its with your other half.

I agree with everyone else. I saw a wedding on TV where the bride had pink hair and she looked amazing! Stick to what you feel comfortable in. Don't go for what anybody else wants you to do just to make them feel comfortable. It's your day and you won't get it back again. x

well I got married in black to start haha, we had a few rituals in the ceremony, a handfasting, a unity candle lighting and a drinking. From the Quaiche. We didn't walk down an aisle, we got married outside. We didn't spend any time apart and as us and our guests were all staying at a small castle we had rented, me and husband walked out to get married hand in hand. Oh and we even managed to sneak photos in with our dogs haha. Apart from the ring exchange, we pretty much avoided any other tradition! You can check out the professional pictures in the Happily Married section if you want.
