So my mum and her friend were talking about this earlier when they were in town and mum asked me about it when she got home.

As some of you know; me and OH are thinking of having our wedding abroad; mum asked if I have to pay for the bridesmaids to come as you are expecting them to be bridesmaid then I don't know if you have to pay or not?

I have brought the dresses; they will sort out their own shoes/make up and hair when I ask them this weekend.

Do I need to pay for them to come (flights/accommodation) if they agree to be bridesmaids?

I wouldnt have thought so, cos i assume theyd come to your wedding even if they werent bridesmaids? It might be worth discussing with them though to see how they feel and if theyd be happy to pay for themselves. Or you could always compromise and meet half way? X

I didn't! It meant that one of my BM's became my London BM as she couldn't afford to come out to Vegas (she could if she'd stopped buying shoes and handbags, but that's a different story!). It worked well as it meant I had a BM in my London pictures, which I didn't expect.

Thanks everyone; that is what I thought; my sister would come to the wedding anyway and Heather is like a sister to me so she would definitely be there. Like you guys said; I'll just have to talk to them about it.

I know you've already decided but thought it best to chip in rather than read and run.
You definitely won't be expected to pay for them but the best thing to do is speak with them and take it from there.

    Hope all goes well xx

I don't think the bride and groom should pay for people to travel abroad. I know a few people who got married abroad and none of them paid for any of their families or bridal party to travel or for accommodation.

I wouldn't think you have to pay since they don't have to accept your invitation to attend

They would be coming to the wedding anyway so don't think you should. But like has been said you could meet them half way if you have the funds x

    Good Morning,

I am marrying abroad, I am paying for all my bridesmaids dresses, hair, make up, shoes, and there jewellery will be gifts on the day... I wouldn't dream of asking the bridesmaids to pay for anything seen as they are having to pay for the holiday plus spending money and quiet possibly using holidays at work that they would normally use on a family holiday and different destination and time. xx

If you were getting married in the UK would you be expected to pay for them to get there? No - so why would you be expected to pay for them to have a holiday?

You can do whatever you want... if they can't afford it then they don't come or you fork out for them. If you don't ask, you don't get. But don't expect them to because asking someone to take a weekend off work and pay for a hotel room for a couple of nights and their travel within their country isn't unreasonable, asking them to sspend significantly more for a wedding abroad is.

Thanks MrsB2B. I figure that if we give them enough notice then they will be happy to as they'd want to go anyway. One is my sister so the family is paying for her and the other is like my non-blood sister so I'm sure she'd be happy to pay. I've decided against asking a third bridesmaid as it would just work out too expensive :P

I was MOH for my friend in Dominican Republic a few years ago and we all paid our own way. It was a holiday for us (my FH was best man) as well as being there for the wedding.

She did not ask me to be MOH until I said we were going as she didnt want me to feel pressured into booking it which was very thoughtful
