I was reading another post and saw someone said pay deposit on a credit card as ur covered if company goes bust or cancels u get ur money back. Does that just mean deposit or any payments made after even if cash or debit card? I never wanted to get credit card but when a lot of venue deposits are £1000 that's a lot of money to lose so I'm thinking if I get one and just use for deposit when I have the money already. How soon can u pay credit card off? And when are u able to cancel card?

EDIT I have taken your thread out of the too lazy category please remember to choose a category before you post in the future

Credit cards offer purchase protection - under Section 75 of the 1974 Consumer Credit Act card issuers and retailers take joint responsibility for faulty purchases, If you pay for something with a credit card, valued between £100 and £30,000, that turns out to be faulty or which you do not receive because the company goes bust, you can claim a refund from the card provider.

However you need to pay the full balance of the card off on when you receive your statement or they will add interest! However there are a lot off offers where you get 0% interest for 12 months. Also you can get wedding insure which covers the if suppliers go bust etc ours cost £18 from one reccomened in a wedding manazgine. Hope this helps x

Get wedding insurance as they would cover you for most things. We paid by credit card as we both loved the venue we booked straigh away but when we got home we moved the money straight over from the savings account to the credit card so we didnt get any interest.

If the company goes bust and you have paid by cash and you dont have any insurace then yes you will lose your money unless you can get your money back from the administrators, but you might have to wait a long time for it.

There is a thread on here about wedding insurance but we got ours straight away.

You normally pay to cover all your weddings plans whether you get married next week or in 5 years so I would google 'wedding insurance' and have a look at some options xxx

Credit cards aren't scary; just use it wisely. For me, that would mean either making sure you have the cash for the deposit, then paying with your credit card, and paying it off straight away; or, getting a card that is interest-free for a set amount of time, and making sure you pay it off within that time (eg if the required deposit is £1000, and you get a card that gives you 10 months interest free, you'd pay off £100 a month). That way, you don't pay interest. Then, only use it for wedding-related purchases; hide it away so you're not tempted to use it for anything else.

As far as insurance goes, every company I looked at would only insure you if the wedding was within 2 years; I didn't find any policies covering you for a wedding 3 years away. So, if you plan on paying any deposits soon, then IMO you really do need to look at paying by credit card to give yourself protection.

In our case, we have insurance; but, any big wedding purchases/deposits (venue, dress, cake, photographer, florist) will also be paid with a credit card, so that we have two levels of protection; eg if for example the insurance company won't pay out, we may still be able to get our money back through the credit card company.

You can pay if off pretty much straight away (obv it can take a couple days for the money to leave your account); I pay mine online, it's really easy. So yeah, you could make the payment, and then that same day, make a payment to your CC company. I've done this a few times eg with holiday deposits/payments (I always pay for big holidays on my credit card).

You could get a credit card that gives you points like A S D A so you could get money off your food or even N e c t o r and you could get money off for your christmas presents.

I agree with barbie - credit cards aren't scary as long as you are using them to benefit you and protect your spending rather than to spend money you don't have. I read on Martin's Money that if you pay by credit card, even for just the deposit as long as it is over £100 you are covered for the whole amount if any thing happens that means the company you've paid doesn't fulfil it's contracted obligations to you. If you go on his website you'll find the article I'm sure.

Credit cards as MrsK2b can give you extra perks to - points, rewards or even cash back. I use mine instead of a debit card and set it to pay in full every month. I only ever use it like a debit card though and so i don't buy things are can't afford, that way i don't pay any interest. xx

Some wedding insurance doesn't cover you if you have already paid the deposit or if you have paid over a grand therefore you do need to check the small print. The one I have taken out does not matter how much you have already paid out. I am not sure if I can give details on here so if anyone would like details please inbox. I only paid £25 and it covered the amount I needed also has good reviews x

Lizzy the one I have taken out does cover you. Joy just can't claim for anything within the first 90 days. I will send details if you like.

Just to be clear ladies I am not advocating this insurance it is just that I did spend a lot of time reading all the terms and conditions of all different insurance before deciding on this one :-)
