Well, me and h2b are paying as we go but we did have a little saved up and parents on both sides have helped with deposits for various things. We are paying as we go but also saving a little for the big things like reception and the honeymoon. I think once you've given yourself a bit of a budget you can decide from there. Me and h2b don't have a set budget for anything we just have a realistic price in our head and that's helped loads but I know other brides think a set budget is much easier! xx

I was lucky as Kev had been saving for years before for his wedding just waiting for the right girl to come along. If you are going to do pay as you go I would say make sure that you work out what you can save from now until the wedding but allow for emergencies like the car breaks down or needs MOT doing etc.

Once you have your budget worked out stick to it! You don't want to get near the end and find you can't afford to pay for half of it and have to cancel.

We are paying deposits now to secure all the important things and I am ordering things like hair accessories, place cards and favours now too, but will pay as we go throughout the next 12 months and then just save up to finish paying the balances off. And it does look like hard work to put a hyphen between each word, my fingers would ache! ;D x

Yes, her space bar on her lap top doesnt work, she mentioned it in a previous post lol
We have a long term saving plan for the wedding and paying money in each month, but we are also paying for somethings as we go, so far we have paid the deposit on the reception, deposit on the flowers, cake and wedding rings. Next month we are paying the wedding rings in full, and the month after I think we are planning on booking (and paying the deposit) the photographer.

Sometimes crumbs/dust etc gets jammed underneath the keys. If you carefully lift up the space until it comes off you can then clean under it and then fit it back on. That usually does the trick.

We got 16 month interest free credit card and everything has gone on that and we're paying £200.00 a month off it until November this year. I can save, but H2B sees money and has to spend it, so this way its not costing us anything and is very similar to saving, except its paying the credit card off.

Tbh, i'm a tart and love interest free credit cards for big expenses as it does give me chance to have nice things without having to save massive amounts in one go......................

we are doing a bit of both too. Worked out what we could afford to save each month, and got our budget that way. then put down deposits on things as we saved the cash. Now all the deposits are paid and its just a case of saving up for the rest of it now! £2k down, only £11 more to go.......... ouch.

    Hiya,

We have saved money, but paid as we go along out of the wedding money. Although I do seem to pay for things like stationary and random stuff just out of my ordinary bank account. We are lucky as we are getting help from my mum, dad, gran and H2B dad too. so hopefully we will be ok. We have paid alot of deposits. The scary time will be the couple of months before the wedding when all totals are due. Worst case scernio is that we put some on a credit card and pay it off as we go along. I have a budget in mind but I am having what i want if that makes sense. haha. As in, if i want it, i am having it, but i will find the cheapest person/place etc. I want a wishing tree, i am planning on finding a branch myself and spraying it-hahaha.xx

We worked out what we could reasonably save each month. Its a direct debit into the wedding account. We're quite lucky cos h2b is paid weekly so we always get by on his wage. My monthly wage covers the monthly bills and wedding.
We saved first and have had three big dips into it. For the suits, room decorator, venue. However with 6 months to go we're starting to dip more. Seeing stuff on bay of e and BM are dress hunting on Sunday. Plus companies will want outstanding amounts soon! Think its better to have some kind of stash. x

I have a spreedsheet and its great to keep track of what you have spent. Its the first thing i did when we decided to get married and makes me feel good that the prices i'd put down have all come out lower when i've actually purchased the goods. My parents have helped a bit (paid for hotel at Gatwick and pearl set) but as H2B and i have been living together for nearly 4 years now I want us to pay for majority of the wedding. My parents have been great to me over the years and this one thing we want to do on our own. Not only that they've decided to come to Vegas with us and its costing them around £6k as my dad won't fly cattle and having them there is better than having any amount of money!!!

we are doign a bit of both - saving a set amount by direct debit every month for expensive things, then paying for everything else remedial from our joint current account. the money can accumulate quite fast then, and it's readily available for our wedding rings.

i use my new credit card to pay for things that need to be done on-the-day, such as my wedding dress deposit, and for our photographer - at the time i didn't have that kind of money on me.

whenever we go shopping for bits now, i transfer money over so we can pay for it, then transfer it back when we come home.

online banking REALLY helps - very quick. very easy and helps you see in front of you how much you're spending.

we worked out what we are likely to save. We then did our budget and paid the deposits. We are then just doing it bit by bit...,saving until around 6 months before the wedding (but keeping paying the deposits in mean time) and then so its not all done last minute, from feb half term we are gonna pay everything off. Theres a few things that are cash on day to avoid paying hiked fees but dont wanna leave things until last minute.
