My current passport runs out 11th April 2011. I'm going to Cyprus on 27th April and don't get married til 10th September 2011.

I need a new passport for going to Cyprus but don't REALLY want to shell out ANOTHER £77.50 less than 6 months later for a new passport with my new name on it (I'm definately changing my name).

Any suggestions of ways round paying twice? Has anyone been in this situation before?

    Help!

I spoke to the travel agents the other day when we booked our holiday about this. What they say to do is to leave your passport in your maiden name until it expires so you don't waste the years left on there. However if it is set to expire before you get married there is a form which you can ask your vicar to fill out and then you can apply for on in your married name, but this can only be done about 6 months before the wedding.

Hope this helps and makes sense!!! xxx

Thank you that does make sense!

I'm getting married in a registry office but I'm sure they should be able to help me too. Maybe I could leave it til March and apply for it then. Would I then have to book my fights to Cyprus in my married name though? I'm getting so confused by all this!

i understood it as u can get ur passport in ur married name 3 months before u get married by getting it signed off but it doesnt become valid until the day u get married so as i understand it i think ur just going to have to renew ur passport in ur maiden name and leave it for the next 10 years which sucks :( and ur passport has to match the name uv booked ur holiday in x

Oh bugger :( Does that mean I have to either keep my maiden name for 10 years on all my other stuff like bank accounts or pay to have it changed? That must sound REALLY blonde but I'm getting really confused by this!

i work for a bank so i know that one no just ur passport if ud rather not get ripped off by paying the full price just to get ur name changed u need ur original marriage certificate to change ur bank a/cs etc u just take it with u and they will take a copy of it takes about a week to change so any chqs ppl write out in ur married name ul have to wait for ur name to change so if u have the option of telling ppl who to make em out to just ask em to put ur husbands name or ur maiden name so u can get em paid in straight away lol!

its hard work for us women!!!

I have this too - I'm getting married in September 2012 but my passport runs out in April 2012...Will the registry office sign off that i'm getting married so that we can book the honeymoon in my married name? Good to know about the bank account stuff - I've been wondering about that!

yeah they will just but iv been told they will only do it 3 months in advance but im sure either they or the postoffice will know more about that they must come across it all the time but its something we need to find out for certain before we book honeymoons as they must be in the same name!!!

yeah bank stuff i know or at best can find out!!!

Thanks guys! What a pain in the butt. So the long and short of it is I can have my passport in my maiden name and bank account in my married name until I choose to change my passport? Bloomin' government charging us a small fortune for passports!

My H2B has booked the honeymoon, in my married name. I need to change my passport which i can do up to 3 months before the wedding BUT as I have to send off old passport I cannot use my 'married' passport until I am married. As long as your passport and travel documents match it doesn't matter which name you use. One friend was married last May and still has her 'maiden' passport as it still has about 4 years left on it.

Our honeymoon's booked in my married name - but we're sorting out passports in May (getting married in August) as I'll be able to get it in my married name then (3 months before) although I won't be able to use it til I'm married (but not bothered as not going anywhere til then lol). Luckily it's my first passport so at least it's not costing me to change it.

travel in your maiden name as i dont think you have to change it straight away as long as when you book tickets they are in the name that matches your passport, i have already booked my honeymoon but did it in married names, so i have to change my passport and i will lose 5 years, but it has to be done x

renew ya passport in ya maiden name but make sure you arrange all your travel in your maiden name too
yes you can change passports into your married name but they do not become valid until the day of your wedding so that would be of no use to you it is expensive to change your passport but it comes back really quick i changed back to my maiden name and the whole process from me sending the forms to receiving passport back took 5 days

As for ID your bank accounts etc can go in to your married name and if you have a driving license change that too as that will be your photo id xx

I'm leaving mine in my maiden name as I've still got over 2 years left on it.

OH has it easy, his needs renewing, but no hassle about chaging HIS name!

Could you do a change of name deed? That might be cheaper to do and it will mean that you can apply for your new passport in what will eventually be your married name. I'm just not sure how it would work when you get married then though. I'm OK with my passport as it has a few years left on it so I will get it changed 3 months before we go away so I can travel in my married name. I want to change the photo on it anyway as they cropped my old one to make me look like a munchkin and I had no make up on with my hair looking like a birds nest as my ex had lost my passport and I had to shoot straight from work (a building site) to the passport office to get the photos took and a new one issued that day.

Hiya i just rand the passport agency (coz i was worried) and explained my situation. Im getting amrried in august but my passport runs out in June. The lady said that you can renew and change your name at the same time. All you have to do is fill out the renewal form and a change of name form (PD2) and get the registrar that is doing the ceremony to sign it and the new passport will be ready to travel on, on your wedding day. Only drawback is you cant travel on it until you get married as they will start the passport from the day you get married so if you are getting married abroad, you are stuffed.
So thats what i will do. In June ill do both at the same time :) phew! hope that helps girlys xxx
