For all of you ladies who are changing your names when you get married and are going on honeymoon soon after, you can change your passport up to 3 months before.
You need a postdating form and the passport will only be valid from your wedding date, but will be nice to go away with your married name!
Just found this out when filling out h2b's passport form :-)

Think you can leave it 'til it expires-then get a new one in your married name-as long as you remember to book in the name on your passport you will be ok. x

You can apply for a passport in your married name-before you get married-but the person marrying you-registrar etc-has to fill in part of it-think there's a special form you have to get. But I think?? that as long as you travel under the same name as on your passport it doesn't matter whether it's your maiden or married name!

yeah thats what i read, the registrar/vicar has to sign a form confirming that you are getting married on that date, and then the passport is only valid from that date. Seems like a lot of hassle think i'll just travel in my maiden name and sort the passport out later!

Hi all, I was on the uk passport site the other day trying to find out the same info and apparently you have to pay the full price of £72 for the re-issue of your passport. I only got mine last year and paid £72, they will very kindly add on any time you have left up to a max of 15 months!!! I can't believe the price of this to have your surname changed! I was sooo excited about travelling in my married name, but am now going to book in my maiden name!

You'll have to pay eventually if you're going to change your name as a passport is what most people need as proof of identity :-)
Doesn't matter if you aren't changing your name but.

yeah you have to change driving licence as well, you can get fined if you get pulled over and it has the wrong details on. Its annoying coz im moving house soon so will have to change it then and again when i get married. dont think driving licence is as much as passport tho

My driving license has my parents' address on because I'm a student and move around all the time!

Posted on your wall about it, as don't want to derail this thread too much.

But having a peitition or lots of people writing to the PM etc would be good if we could get loads of people interested in it, I really think it's unfair that we have to pay all that money just because we got married, it's almost like a punishment, surely they want people to have a happy stable home environment & want to promote marriage?

I wonder if adopted children need new passports?
On a child passport note - how ridiculous is it for babies to have their own passport? I could show you a baby that lives in a different country to the one on the passport and no-one would know the difference!
One of the terms is if the baby's head needs to be supported, the hand supporting the head must not be shown in the photograph.

    Nanny state this is :(

my passport will need renewing so that i can go on my honeymoon so from what iv been reading am i right in saying that it would be best to renew it in my married name to be rather than having a new 10 yr passport in my maiden name coz it would then cost me around £72 again just to get a name change!
