    Hello ladies,

Another quick one from me, I've recenlty booked the honeymoon and I've booked it in what will be my married name, so therefore I will need to get my passport changed, I can't do it until 3 months before the wedding, so I still have some time to wait, but it's really stressing me out! I don't know what it's stressing me out, did anyone else get there passport changed before they got married and can you tell me of your expereince please? I've got the forms and of course will need the registrar to sign for me how long did it take for your passport to come back? x

we did the opposite, only got my passport renewed last year so as it's got 9 years left on it we booked the honeymoon in my maiden name as it would cost 76 to change it to my married name :-(

I am gonna keep my passportnin maiden name until I get British citizenship as its a long and costly process to get French passport, if you've booked already in married name see with them if you could change the name if you are afraid it'll take too long to get your new passport

I've booked mine in my maiden name deliberately as my passport doesn't run out for another 5 years and didnt want to waste the money. i will do it when i come back though as we won't be going for a while and i'll do my driving license at the same time

Threads like this are the reason I love this site!! I had to get a new passport this year for a 3 day cruise, then I thought I was going to have to get a new passport for my honeymoon. I din't realise it was legal to still travel under my maiden name!!

We booked it under my maiden name aswell as still have about 7 years left on it, however I'll probably change it afterwards to save any confusion using different names when planning to go away in future. xx

Steph-Hughes-2b - just remember if you do apply for it they post date the passport so you cannot travel untill after the date of your wedding

i was having a faf as going on holiday with the girls 3 weeks before the wedding and did not know what to do - have decided to leave it untill after we are married then sort it before we go away again

i'm going in my married name because my passport needed renewing in 2013 anyway so I figured losing a year wouldn't hurt! But we're getting married in May, and not going on honeymoon til August - do you all think I'll be ok to just change it afterwards? How long does it take for it to come back? xx

Mine passport has just taken three weeks, but it's outside of peak season. You can pay a little bit more for a faster turnaround.

Hi Steph, I wouldn't worry about it too much as long the form is correct they usually get it back to you quite quickly, and most post offices do a check an send service now where they check it all for you to make sure you've filled it in correctly and send it recorded delivery I think! I've been looking at passport info on the web recently as I wasn't sure whether I should travel in my maiden or married name. I've just come across a paragraph that says you have notify the passport service when you have changed your name so even if you don't change your name on your passport before the wedding your going to have to do it pretty much as soon as you get back from your honeymoon anyway. I can't understand why they charge so much though!! X

I didn't have a passport before I got married - so we booked the honeymoon in my married name. I applied for a passport 3 months before the wedding and it came to me postdated to be used after the wedding date.

It's quite a quick process (took me about 3 weeks and that was peak season) - but make sure you use the Post Office check and send service as that saves waiting in queues and gets priority at the passport office.

To change the name on a passport it'll cost you £77.50 (the same price as a new passport - ridiculous really), but you'll definitely have plenty of time to do it in 3 months. I got married away from home, so had to get my minister to sign the form - which meant sending it to him to sign and waiting for him to send it back to me before posting it off to the passport office. I also had to have an interview as it was my first passport - but it was delivered about 3 weeks after posting off the forms.

@bridalmiss... i did exactly the same. 9 years left on my passport so booked in my maiden name, as long as the booking and the passport are in the same name its ok and its perfectly legal.

one thing to consider when deciding whether to change you passport no or later is that some countries insist that you have at least 6 months left on your passport when entering the country

Some countries have a strict 6-month validity rule in place. If your passport expires within 6 months of your date of arrival you will be turned away at immigration, if not before at your departure airport. These include: Thailand, India, Sri Lanka, UAE, Brazil, Ecuador, Indonesia, Israel, Malaysia, Paraguay, Tunisia, Romania, Singapore and surprisingly, Belgium.

Other countries enforce a 3-month rule. These include: Cambodia, Denmark, Fiji, Switzerland, South Africa, New Zealand, Croatia and Estonia

Many countries however require only a valid passport for the duration of your stay. Among these are: Kenya, Tanzania, France, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, Malta, UK and USA.

There are some exceptions: EU citizens only ever need a valid passport, regardless of date, to travel in other EU countries. US citizens need only a driving license or valid passport to enter Canada, Mexico, Bahamas and any US overseas territories such as Puerto Rico.

For any other nationalities: rather than risk travelling with a passport that will expire in 6 months or less, you are strongly advised to get your passport renewed or get an emergency passport before travel.

I am getting married 3 weeks today and on Friday 18th May I have an interview at the passport office to get my new passport in my married name. I pick it up the same day and can travel on it for the honeymoon. It's easy to do and you can pay for the 1 day or 1 week fast track service if it's running close to the big day! xx

I am getting married on the 16th June and go on honeymoon the next day! I stupidly booked my honeymoon in my married name, cos I was super excited and forgot that I still had 5 years on my passport left!! We moved house 1 month ago and I lost my passport in the move, so had to apply for a new one anyway! Good job I did book in my married name after all! Lol.

I was very panicked, however, cos only sent it away 3 weeks ago and applying for a lost and change of name, I was dreading it. 2 weeks later, it was back - married name n all! Ready to go! Easy peasy to do too...xx
