We are planning to go on honeymoon a month after the wedding. I've looked on the gov website regarding change of name on my passport. Am I right in thinking I can book in my maiden name and travel with my current passport? Is due to expire next year and I don't see the point in spending another £80 3 months before the wedding when I'll only have to renew next year anyway! Xx

You can get a new one in your married name 3 months before the wedding and the add up to a year of time onto your new one (so you dont miss out on too much time) you then travel in your married name. If you go to the post office there is a special form you fill oit, you take it to.the registra who also fills a bit out. They date the passport to your wedding date. Im sorting it all out this week!

Yeah you can do that, the only thing I'd be careful of is I think you can only travel if you have a certain about of time on your passport. So if it's near to running out they may not let you fly. X

Yes you have to have at least 6 months left on your passport in order to travel.

Yeah, I've been married 3 years this coming September and I still have my passport in my maiden name! It still had 7 years left on it so I really didn't want to change it until I'd got a few more years out of it LOL! Perfectly legal. Travelled to various parts of Europe as well as the USA twice on it - all fine.
Thanks ladies - there should be over 6 months left on it by the time we travel so I'll leave it in my maiden name for now. So many other expenses to worry about without adding another one to the list xx

Yea that sounds like plenty of time - especially if you use the Post Office check and send service - that's really fast. I know what you mean about the honeymoon being Mr and Mrs but hey ho, it'll be changed next year then we've got all the time in the world to be Mr and Mrs :-) xx

You MUST have 6 months or more left on your passport on the date of travel
you can travel on your passport in your maiden name ONLY if the tickets are the same name
you CANNOT travel with ticket in married name and passport in married name and take your marriage certificate, you WILL be refused travel.
when getting your passport changed they will grant you uptp 9mths extra on your new passport .
you can have your passport changed into your married name 3 months prior to the wedding BUT your passport will not be valid until your wedding day.
I travelled to my other home in Spain in December 2012 with 4 months remaining on my passport. The advice given above is only correct for some countries. Some have a 6 month rule, some have a 3 month rule, and some just require a valid passport.

the best way is to work on the fact you need 6 months ... if you need to make sure look on the entry requirements for your desired countries consulate web page ... or look for advice on FCO website
