Note to mods: I have searched for this and cannot find anything, hope i havent missed any! :)
Hey everyone, So i have decided to make my own paper flowers for our big day, i have put photos in my album of the ones i have found for inspiration and some that i have started making myself. What does everyone think? We are wanting to make most things ourselves and do it on the cheap but i dont want to cross the line to tacky. I know everyones taste is different but would just like some opinions please. :)
Is anyone else having paper flowers?
CommentAuthorLinzi-jo
I love the tissue paper ones! And your ones are looking good too. Personally I wouldnt have paper flowers but thats because I love real ones! And am planing to put my bouquet on my nans grave so paper wouldnt survive on there if it rained! But I dont think they look tacky at all, at the end of the day it is your wedding day and if you love them then nobody elses opinion should matter :) xxxx
Got together 14.02.2008
Got engaged 31.12.2010
Will become a Mrs on 30.08.2014 xxxxxx

I'm planning on making mine from pages out of books. Pic is in my album.
Just not sure how to make it waterproof. Might just have to laminate each flower before making into shape.
Am putting it on my uncles grave when I have got married as he was my best friend and got me through a real tough time.
CommentAuthorNikitaL
Thats a lovely idea putting them on a grave of a loved one :) I love real flowers too but i have really taken to the paper ones, i think they can be more personalised and it means i can start them now and they wont spoil before the wedding, plus i am a real skint flint and if it means i can save money then its even better! :)
CommentAuthorNikitaL
I like those flowers katie, are they easy to make? I have wondered about if it rains, which would be a nightmare. But i cant laminate the paper first for the flowers i am making as it would make it too thick and it wouldnt fold i dont think.??
I made the ladies corsages with paper flowers i got from clearance bin at a large hobby/craft specialising store.
99p for 30 petals - there are a few brands which do gorgeous ones and its worth checking on bay of e and stores for ones going cheap (Prima/Mulberry paper/Papermania)

Working on a 3 dream plan for the next 5 years!
Dream 1 = My gorgeous Mr P proposed - 4/9/11 Sydney Harbour
Dream 2 = Getting Married Easter 2012 by Bonnie Loch Lomond
Dream 3 = Working on that dream life in Australia

Havn't tried yet but they look quite easy. You dont actually fold them just wrap them round. I have a list of things to make every month apart from this month and the month of the wedding and my bouquet is listed for june this year at the moment. Once work let me know if my holidays have been accepted I'll swap it around so the more time consuming stuff is when I'm off (or on nights hehe).
CommentAuthorNikitaL
They are lovely munchkinpie :) I never really thought of buying petals, but i really like them and they look less time consuming than the ones i am making. Each petal is a different piece of paper, and there are 5 petals for each flower. Good job i have patience :)
CommentAuthorNikitaL
wow Katie you sound like you are so organised!
CommentAuthorMrs Davro
Working erractic shifts + small budget + huge excitement = organised.
All my corsages are made and sat in individual boxes swiped from work (they were going in the bin anyway) padded with also swiped fabric (also goes in the bin if I didn't have it) with 'Corsage, wear me on the right' written on.
CommentAuthorMrs Davro
NikitaL yea it is a good job you have patience.
CommentAuthorNikitaL
I suppose you dont have much choice then hun. Think i need to get my but into gear as i am the most unorganised person in the world! I am fine at work but anything to do with my personal life usually gets left till the last minute! We have been engaged so long now and i have only just started to think about getting married! lol! And now realising just how much there is to do and how much we have to save wioth not much income i am having to see it as a work project with a deadline and hoping i can pull it off!
Have you booked anything yet katie?
CommentAuthorkrissy905

Wow Krissy thats pretty amazing! I may have some patience but am not sure if i would have the passion to do it all the time, think because they are for my wedding i have more time for it if that makes sense? still you never know, maybe a career change for me! ha ha, but dont think mine are that good! lol

Aww thanks keys :) they are really easy to do, just time consuming. But I think the end result will be worth it :)
CommentAuthorKatieDolman2b
Teal was my old colour lol. I changed it because I was struggling to find anything that colour. I'm getting everything tomorrow to have a go at making the real thing x
CommentAuthorNikitaL
Can't wait to see the pics :) what's your new colour? I love teal and purple but thought it might be a bit too much to have both, so we going for purple and white instead.

CommentAuthorEcoFreak
Yeah sorry I put sp as I wasn't sure I'd spelt anemones right lol!
I keep flitting between having felt flowers or paper pinwheel flowers to match our top table runner... As much as I love the giant paper rose it'd look ott imo with my jewellery/I'd need a very plain dress.

CommentAuthorKatieDolman2b
Thank u Nikita. I've done 3 different sizes. I wanted to create a different look lol xx
CommentAuthorNikitaL
I really like the felt flowers, think they can look so life like and there is a good choice of colours too. Also like the idea of the pin wheel ones, never seen them before.
Can't really say how long they took me as I did them a bit at a time. The origami ones take the longest as each flower has 5 petals and each petal is made from a different piece of paper, I found it easier to make all the petals first (about 40) then stuck them together and went from there. The tissue paper flowers are really quick and easy to do and take about 5 minutes each. The rose ones are easy too, they are just fiddly when your waiting for the glue to dry.
CommentAuthorKatieDolman2b
A glue gun helps. Cos it dries loads quicker :) x
CommentAuthorNikitaL
thanks Mrs houghton. I got most of my ideas from search engines and the tube :)
CommentAuthorNikitaL
I can't wait to see the finished result Mrsd! :)
CommentAuthorNikitaL
I could really do with a glue gun! been using all purpose glue and it takes ages to dry!!
CommentAuthorMrs Davro
NikitaL - yea we got an idea, going for lunch there when we give notice.
CommentAuthorLegoWife
Love the massive paper flowers- t'was me who posted it :)
It's amazing how some paper flowers can look so real! I wish I could make some too but they'll look really odd with my Lego flowers.
