Thinking of getting the rings so its another job done. My engagement ring is white gold, but aparently the rhodium on white gold wears off and turns a funny colour and you have to have it re-covered. So, while i want the wedding ring to match i dont want this to happen so was thinking about platinum. But have seen in the jewellers window 'palladium' rings which are white as well and cheaper than platinum but still a precious metal aparently. Anyone know anything about this? dont wanna get ripped off or get a green finger!!!

H2b was gonna get me a palladium wedding ring and did a lot of research on it, he thought it looled better than platinum, but ended up getting a platinum 1, as he couldn't get my ring in palladium. Soo yeh, I'd say go for it hun x

Palladium is a metal that is in the same family as platinum , it is not as dense as platinum making it lighter and therefore cheaper xx

My FSIL works in a jeweller and recommended Palladium to us, as Leafy said it is from the same family as platinum.
One thing to bare in mind though is that even though its white try it next to your engagement ring as it may look a different shade. x

We are having palladium too it is the sister metal to platinum and is fab. It doesn't need coating and doesn't scratch easily so you don't need to worry about long term care as much as white gold. Honestly love it and it is unusual as not many people have as much acess to palladium makes it a little more unique :) xxx

am having my wedding ring palladium, the reason why alot of jewllers dont use it is theres not as much mark up as there is with platinum, my engagement ring is platinum and palladium next to platinum wont start to wear down etc ir change for about 50 years! by then ill prob be dead so not worried!!!

Its as hard wearing as platinum the same colour as platinum and even the hall marking is similar to platinum, i chose it because my wedding ring in platinum was 2500 and with pladium was 1200 with exactly the same diamonds in it and exactly the same design just different metals just goes to show!

I have had my white gold engagement ring for under 2 months now and it has started to discolour so I would really not reccomend white gold! H2B really wants palladium for himself, and there are some stunning rings out there in this material! I would go into shops and try on palladium next to your engagement ring and see how well the go together! good luck!

My H2B has just order his palladium ring, the jewellers said its hard wearing, just not as rare as platinum hence the lower price tag. I've got platinum for both. Not sure how palladium would wear against white gold? Thought both metals had to be the same?

Myself and my H2B have palladium rings and my engagement ring is Platinum - they look fine together when i tried them and i've been told palladium is in the same family as platinum.

With white gold it may wear against your palladium ring due to the softness.

MaggieLou I visited a jewellers just before Christmas and asked about the rings having to be the same metal due to wear and tear and she basically told me that one metal will wear away the other but it wont be in my lifetime.
I've never thought about palladium rings but I think I may look into them.

my h2b is getting palladium his ring was in platinum n i nearly had a fit at th price but the jewellers suggested palladium n it brought th price down by about £700 and its more hard wearing which is a good thing!! but if u want to go for white gold yes it will need recoating but they told me its only around £25 to do so not as expensive as ud think and there doing mine free of charge for th wedding!

You need to have a white gold wedding ring of the same carat as your engagement ring - anything else will rub against it, damage it and change it's colour. They should only need re-plating every few years or so. I wouldn't risk a palladium ring against a white gold ring - we had the same discussion when buying our wedding rings and I went for white gold for that reason. Yes you will need to replate both but only at the same rate - you'd be replating your engagement ring far more frequently and it could damage it! My H2B went for a palladium ring and it will look fab on him :)

I work with jewellery and yes palladium is a great metal and yes it is the sister to platinum. But you shouldn't really have a different metal next to one another. I have white gold and you dont have to get it rhodium plated that often. And it is only cheap to do. Hubbies could still be palladium as you cant really tell. Hope that helps a little. xx

my H2B got a palladium ring. We found them slightly more expensive than white gold, but not as expensive as platinum. He wanted palladium cause its harder wearing and never needs re-plated.

mine is 18ct white gold, but my engagement ring is only 9 months old and is already losing its clean white colour
