This post is long over due! 1 month 1 day after the big day, here it is
Our wedding day was brilliant. I could not have asked for better.
I woke up at 3 but desperately tried to get back to sleep. Decided by 5:30 that I was going to get up. I put my bed away and had a shower then the fun started.
We were all downstairs at 6:30/7 and I gave my wedding party their gifts. They loved them. My dad especially. He cried when he saw his pocket watch. Makeup and hair arrived at 7:30 and got started. It was such a relaxed morning. So special xx Mom needed me to make confetti cones for her. As usual she was the one unorganised person haha then my hair started. It was perfect. I then had a little time to myself before makeup started so spent much needed time on my own praying. Photographer and video man arrived at 10:30 ish while I was having my makeup done and then we went to get ready. I helped both my mom and sister get ready then they helped me into my dress. I felt a million dollars! Some lovely photos of the getting final bits sorted. My aunt wasn't ready so we then had a bit of time. I was getting nervous by this point so just pacing round my room in my dress. I was getting so impatient to see my dad he kept trying to come upstairs to get his jacket but we wouldn’t let him . He cried when I saw him and I did his tie and hankie. Lovely photo and a special moment. It then was 2 seconds before the cars arrived. Mine and dads driver was brilliant. Can't comment on the other car as didn't really speak to him. Turns out my driver was a friend from choirs brother!!
We got to the church and the bride before us was still there but it was ok. And not weird like I expected it to be. It was lovely us all being so happy actually. I thought I would hate it. We waited for them to leave before we got out the cars and made our way to the church. It so special just waiting with my dad. We almost forgot to put my veil down.. only realised about 10 seconds before the music started so was a bit of a panic. Good fun! The ceremony was brilliant. The vicar called my OH Richard at one point. Safe to say his name isn't Richard. I didn't know what to do. It felt like an eternity. The whole church erupted. It was just the most wonderful ceremony. The hymns I had chosen were perfect. The readings were meaningful. It’s very special. OHs Grandad is poorly with terminal cancer. But you can see him in most of the ceremony photos because of where his chair was positioned. He cried and told us later in the day he was crying because he didn’t think he would make it to the wedding. Meant so much to have him there xx After the ceremony as we walked out, our cubs were standing in a guard of honour to process us out. It was a lovely moment having them all there. Just completely overwhelmed with everyone who turned out at the church. People we weren’t expecting at all came.
After the ceremony we had a few photos and my tummy got bad. We quickly finished the big group photos and the photographer found a bench for me to sit at for smaller photos.
The drive to the venue was surreal. I just kept saying “we have done it”. It felt so very normal. We had shared a bottle of champagne before we got to the venue and were then greeted with another glass. I didn’t drink much at the venue but it was brilliant.
Our guests all LOVED the ice cream cart. We didn’t have chance to have any but our best man approached us on the evening with 2 tubs of ice cream he had saved and put in the freezer for us. He was brilliant all day. Could not have asked for a better best man!
The receiving line was lovely. It was a good opportunity to see everyone and say hello. The room for the breakfast was set out beautifully. Our starter was lovely but my tummy was bad so I didn’t eat the main and went for a little walk instead. I was just wondering around the hotel and a lady popped out of the tea room and asked if I could walk through so her elderly mom could see my dress. I happily obliged and felt like a princess!! Pudding was lovely too. Sticky toffee my favourite!!!
The speeches were amazing. My dad wrote us a poem. Left me in tears. OHs and his best mans were less adventurous but really heartfelt. Can’t wait for the video so I can hear them again. My dad gave us a signed copy of his speech but I cant remember the other 2.
The evening reception was brilliant. I was dancing most of the night.
This was the point I was annoyed at OHs family. They spent the whole night in another room. I had to go and find OH to do the first dance. When I told all his family we were doing the first dance they asked if it was in the room they were in and I said no in the wedding room and they all moaned. I just said well it’ll be in about 10 mins if you want to see if, if not then just stay and walked away from them. They avoided my family all night. Found it really offending.. Never mind I had fun with my family and friends xx
I had to change out of my dress at 11. Thought I did really well to stay in it till that time. I did have a brief change between the breakfast and 1st dance but that was literally 15 mins. We stayed up in the bar toll about 1. Towards the end, my dad hugged me a just started sobbing saying “I want you back”. He made OH promise to still call me Vinnie. It was so lovely.
Me and OH then stayed up till 3 talking about the day and how lovely it was. I put our first dance song on and walked over to him to dance with him and he just broke down and said I love you whilst crying. We were both just so emotional and it was such a special moment for us both.
Thank you both. :) He was the proudest daddy ever Michelle x
