Little bit of a rant coming up.......

I have had a few issues with my mum recently. I get the feeling she is not too interested in the wedding at the moment and i keep getting lots of "it's too soon" or "you've got ages yet"

WELL......Now we have booked the venue, photographer, venue decorators, picked a cake etc she seems a little more interested.

However, she is really pushing a band onto us.
I am happy to have a band whereas H2B is not so happy about it and wants a dj/disco.
I have tried to explain to him we can have music playing from their PA system during their breaks.....he's not convinced and has now said he will have a band but wants a separate disco/dj too.

There is not enough room for both in our venue

NOW the flowers have come into debate.......
    Our colour is Green
My FG's are all carrying a small bunch of gypsophila
My flowers i would like to be natural/rustic

Now mum is saying its going to be too green and we should add some pink
To the flowers, dresses and cravats!!

Every idea we have, she always wants to change it.
She doesn't like my shoes, she doesn't like the cake

I'm getting annoyed as i want to share all the ideas and bits we want with her but it just gets me down that she doesn't like most of it and always tries to change things!

i know she is your mum but have what you and yourng h2b want. it is your wedding and you will have enough stress without your mum putting in ideas.

i would sit down with her and say as much as you appreciate her ideas, you and h2b have already got everything planned in your head and want it to stay that way x

    It is tricky
I don't want to offend her and i don't want her to feel she cant say her opinion, Its just the way she comes pout with it is more patronising and i suppose dismissive of what we have chosen.

As silly as it sounds im finding it quite hurtful as these are choices we started to make (might well change in the coming months i know and the florist im sure will give her professional opinion)

If it was wallpaper, or a car or a top then i would prob take it much better but these are our touches for one of the best days of our lives

I do like the pale pink's in with the green but the flowers i like are not traditionally bridal.
H2B does not want to add pink and most def not to dresses, cravats etc.

My dress will be ivory, the little ones flowers are white headed and there will be some white in my bouquet.
All the table linen is white and we are going with fish bowls and mirror plates for the centre pieces.

Im not sure how it will look "Too green?!"

The band thing, its likely they are coming from down south so to have them only for an hour would not be worth their time to come i don't think. Plus its the setting up and dismantling the set.

I think H2B may be coming round to the idea but i need to check with him its because he would like a band and he's not just saying yes for an easy life!!!

Thanks ladies, Krissy, your flowers/theme sounds very similar to ours.

I know the pink & green does go and looks lovely but our colour is green with the chair & table sashes etc
Throwing pink into it will change that i think as mum is suggesting sashes on FG dresses or just our daughter and different cravats for the PB (one green one pink)

We never once have shown any desire to have a pink theme so i am unsure where its come from tbh

no agree with you theres no need for the pink and think it will look lovely the way your going ignore you mum on that one lol i think we have very similar tastes elle as we both seem to like the same bits when we comment on posts lol my theme is going quite garden party/vintage with a bird theme running through it with pink, green and ivory as my colours i got the theme totally buy accident as i just picked things i like and it all tied together really nicely.

i think pink use to be quite a traditional wedding colour been to a lot of wedding in my time and most had pink or peach in there some were.

i quiet like these but cant decide between fresh or artificial flowers

    They are nice Krissy.
I prefer the first one i think as the 2nd one seems more pink
Green is my fave colour and for the last few years its the colour scheme i have wanted for our wedding.
H2B is also happy with it
Think im gonna have to start stamping my feet over this one!

i love the green and white. Had we not been going for bright flowers (fuschia, bright orange and yellow! lol) I probably would have gone for something similar. Very classy and tasteful :o) It definitely doesn't need pink, and if you don't want it then put your foot down - politely of course, she is going to be your MiL after all ;o)

not like mine then, I think i just assumed it was mil because she sounded just like mine - questioning every little decision we make! we've very politely but pointedly told her that seeing as she isn't contributing a penny towards the wedding, she gets no say on any decision we make. Simples :o)

Nope my MIL has shown minimum interest so far.
Would rather tell me about a cousin twice removed that has got engaged and will be getting married next year.
    WHO CARES?!

OR another good one was flicking through the paper on sunday as soon as we walked through the door, thrusting it in my face to show me Amanda Holdens baby (who is SOOOOO cute, seriously) and Harper Beckham
She was harping on for 15 mins how lovely they were and cooing...........
This is the same woman that tells me in the same breath "You dont NEED anymore babies!"

    Arggggggghhhhh

Green and white is incredibly classic and as a wedding planner I did quite a few weddings including the one in my album in the marquee with the lanterns..... stick to your guns and I would tell your mum that while you appreciate her input, you and your h2b have final say!

I love your flowers. If I was you I would keep to green and white and if that's been your fab colour for awhile then keep it.
I would just tell your mum that you don't like pink and that it is staying the way you and your H2B wants it. Just remember its your day so you want it perfect.

Our colour is burnt orange so we have got a lot of green in our flowers.

I think your flowers look classic and elegant, i love the green and white scheme it also looks so fresh :) I would as already suggested have a gentle word with your mum and say that this is the choice you have made abd you are really happy for it to stay this way....or when you speak about the wedding over emphasise that you are really pleased with flowers/dress etc...that way she might just take the hint :) xxx

I think the green and white looks great but I know where your mum's coming from, I'd probably add the pink to that as I think it's beautiful. The issue though isnt the colour is it, it's your mum not respecting your wishes. Opinions are fine as long as they're not pushed on you... my mum doesnt take no for an answer, even when I've politely said no a couple of times it gets to the point I have to be quite abrupt. It's become a running joke in our family so I generally throw in the old example of when she's being pushy - she once got quite upset I wouldnt finish a glass of milk she didnt want - that example works a treat lol There's only so many times you can be polite before you put it straight x

OMG my mum is the same... she doesn't seem bothered thats one of the reasons i joined this site to chat to people that actually wanna talk about wedding because my mum and family keep saying is this all we're gonna hear for the next 14 months.

And my mum has friends in a band and she's trying to push them onto us also saying she'll pay for it... and although i don't wanna sound ungrateful because its the only thing about my wedding she's paid an interest in... they are bout our cup of tea at all.

So i can relate to your situation xx
