We are having a civil ceremony and no readings being done, do I need an order of service or is it just a nice extra touch? X

You don't need one for a civil... You could do an order of the day though? Like who bridal party is, menu, approx running times of the day and maybe a map to venue an thigs to do in the area x

It's not necessary but might be nice if you want to include names of the wedding party. There won't be any essential information to put in though, assuming everyone knows the arrangements of the day. You could also use them to express thanks to people.

30th August 2014 was the best birthday ever.
It was the day that I became Mrs. Dixon.

You don't need one, but a friend had one that had the running of the day/times on one side, and what reading will be done and by who on the other.
You could put on the menu, or some "did you know" facts about you and the hubby.

I have also seen an order of service done in the style of a fan, for a wedding in summer - to help guests cool down x

Im the same with a civil ceremony. We're not having one. I wouldn't personaly be bothered by it if I was a guest either x
