    Hi everyone

My BM's and I will soon be starting to look for their BM dresses and just wondering what your initial thoughts are on these possibilities. I'm having a fairly deep red colour for the BM dresses and want something elegant and classy. There are a couple of high street dresses I really like the look of:

This one is from phase 8 for £130

phase eight Monica maxi dress £130.png

This is the home store that's british for £80
    BHS twist and wrap £80.jpg

These 3 are hilary morgan dresses (from a bridal store so I guess like Dessy etc. type prices)

There's something also like this which is a random piccie I found online.

One BM is fairly easy going the other doesn't want strapless or sweetheart neckline.

I like the idea of the high street dresses because they're cheaper to buy and I will be able to get discounts on them too.

    What are your thoughts?

    xx

I really like the phase 8 one! It is very classic and classy! Plus, it would be suitable for them to wear again to a works night or ball or something. And I also think it would be very flattering on any figure xxx

High street all the way! Or online. I got my BM's dresses on ama zon for £11 each!! They are beautiful and look like they cost 10x that. High price tags don't mean better dresses. Don't be scared to look for bargains.

I'm afraid I'm not much help when choosing dresses. I love all of them!

I really like the material, it's a fairly heavy smooth jersey material that swishes as you move. I really like the style too, may need to get alterations for them if the dresses don't fit perfectly though. My sister is a size 6-8 and the smallest they do is an 8. Also the length may need altering but it'll all still work out cheaper than getting a "proper BM dress" from a bridal store plus alterations as we'd probably be looking at approx £220 per dress then with alterations, whereas this would be I guess approx £170 or maybe less if I can get a discount on a house of fr@ser promotional day x

I had to have three of my dresses altered, wasnt difficult and you still need to get bridal shop ones altered so its no real problem

That's what I was thinking and I know what seamstress I could probably use too.

The twist and wrap one is pretty cool as I think there is something like 14 different styles you can make up with the one dress, so versatile, I think it's a cheap rip off of the two birds dresses. No idea what the quality is like though.

Thanks Linzi Jo - i agree, it's something that could be worn again. It is beautiful, caught my eye as I was walking passed it in the shop window on a manequin, it's so pretty.

Do you think my BM's will think I'm being cheap if I go for a high street dress rather than a "designer" BM Dress from a bridal shop?

I just don't want to spend more than really necessary.

No I dont think they will think you are being cheap. From what you say about the fabric and the way it hangs it sounds like it is gorgeous. And I personally prefer it to the pics of the ones that are from a bridal store. And it's not as though these ones cost pennies either is it? I would be very happy as a bridesmaid if I was told that someone wanted me to wear that dress. Just because they are high street doesn't mean that they cant be beautiful xxx

It can still be a great experience! I went bridesmaid shopping with my friend (she's getting married next year) and we went to all high street stores (Debenhams, House of Frasier, Monsoon etc.) and had lunch out and it was a lovely day! xxx

We managed to nab a personal shopper in Debenhams too who showed the bride 2 be their range of dresses and then took us to a private room where we could try them on etc. and she stayed with us for 2 hours as she had no one else in that day! So may be worth looking into that too if you want the experience to be a bit more personal? xxx

Thanks OWB - I was thinking we could go to the bridal store on Epping high street where i got my wedding dress from as the owner was so helpful and then at least we can try some of the BM dresses and they have the experience just after we do the high street, then I can decide what dress I do love the best.

That's a great idea Linzi-jo! Might have to look into that.

Defo high street hun. I'm having my 3 bm's dresses made by a woman who runs her own business and the quality and look of the dresses are better than any from an expensive store! They are Grecian style, one shouldered, and burgundy.

Definitely the phase 8 one. It's by far the nicest dress and also something that BMs could wear again. The others are too stuffy for my liking.

Ooh, thanks hun. Looks like phase 8 is popular.
Maybe after the wedding I can convince one of my BM's to let me have her dress as she says red isn't really her colour but will wear it just because I want it for my wedding! I'm paying for the dresses anyway xx

Thanks Kelly, it caught my eye when it was on a mannequin as it just looked stunning so I hope it'll look the same on my BM's (one is a size 6-8 and the other an 8-10).

I'm really looking forward to shopping with them, just hope I can get a gorgeous dress for a good price.

As long as they are the same colour does it matter what style each bm has?

My bms have all got the same dress but if yours are self conscious then could you get her number 1 and then the other bms a strapless one?

At the end of the day hun, it's your wedding and your choice! Of course you want your bms to feel comfortable etc but it's 1 day that they have to conform to your ideas and then at their weddings/events you'll do exactly what they want!

I had to say this to one of my bms about her poxy hair! she wanted it down and curly but I'm having mine down and curly so we compromised she's having it up to the left in to a side pony style and curly and in the evening if she wants to take it down she can xxx

    Good luck x

I like the Phase Eight one too. Be careful with the twist and wrap dresses as they come up really small - I am a size 8 and ordered a small - it was way too small - couldn't even get it on!
