My h2b and I had decided that we'd like a musician to play at our wedding so I didn't have to rely on one of my Ushers to arrange a CD, they are pretty useless with responsibility and either one of them would swap the CDs and I'd be walking down the aisle to some head banging song..

So I spent ages researching musicians and deciding what we'd like, we came to the decision we'd like a pianist. Everything sound's so beautiful, even the most modern songs can sound so romantic. We found the woman we wanted to book and everything was great, the price was a little more than we wanted to spend but hey ho, we could cut down somewhere else.

But then at a party a friend mentioned she plays instruments, she mentioned she plays the flute, clarinet and saxophone and she offered to play at my wedding for free. I got excited and agreed, who wouldn't for something for free?!

All was well and she had sent me some music she can play, we decided on the traditional wedding march etc, as she doesn't really play anything too modern. And then the pianist emailed me to say that they have a winter discount at the moment and its £60 cheaper.. I really want to book her!

I don't want to upset my friend though, she offered and its really nice of her but I also feel bad making her do it, I just don't think she'd relax and have a great time when shes stood at the back of the room playing music! And she can only do it for the ceremony where as the pianist will play on guest arrival, ceremony and drinks reception..

    What would you do??

I would book the pianst but maybe get the friend to play you down the aisle so it's an even more meaningful moment. Best of both worlds maybe

I also agree you should have both. That way she can feel special doing something for you but it doesn't take the shine of her day by having to constantly play. I'm sure the pianist would be happy to either let her play a whole piece etc or even do a duet.

just explain to your friend that you want the pianist to play throughout and she wouldnt enjoy herself if she had to play music.

Plus she wouldnt get to see you walk down the aisle either

I'd probably suggest that the pianist play for the ceremony, then maybe your friend could play whilst your signing the register, that way she wont miss anything x

Thank you for all your suggestion. I have now sorted it. I have booked the pianist and spoke to my friend, I asked if she'd like to play me down the aisle and she said the pianist would do a better job and she'd rather have all her attention on me :-) I just have to pick music now. 15 songs for guest arrival, 5 songs for ceremony and 30 songs for drinks reception!
