hi welcome to UKb
The girls have said it really but also make sure you set a budget and a realistic one that you know you can afford and can stick to xx
i started with the guest list once you know your approx numbers, you know what size venues you need to be looking at
Im getting married in 2 years as well (though according to my profile its this time next year, need to get that changed!) so Ive not really bothered planning much as of yet, I'm aiming to just have the details and ideas written down and come back to it when its 18 months/a year away. Get yourself a small box and a note pad!
Budget is an obvious one, and you might want to think about who you can delegate tasks to to save money as well, im hoping SIL will make my cake, Ive got a friend doing all my favours, which i keep changing my mind on what I want, think im driving her up the wall haha! And Im making all my own centre peices and customising my own cake toppers too.

I did the same as Velcro - guest list first to get an idea of how big or small you want it to be. That helps when you look at venues.
Decide on whether you want a religious or non religious first then work out what time of year you prefer - whether you'd be prepared to go off peak or mid week to keep the cost down.
Then, I made tons of spreadsheets - one for potentail venues, one for florist, photographers, cakes, etc - i kept in it the location, numbers it can hold, rough cost, my first impression from the website etc. I aldo kept note of anything i'd looked at and discounted and the reason for doing so - that way i didn't keep looking through the same info on line.
Then when i'd narrowed things down i started going and looking at venues. I don't really think you can decide on much else till your date and venue is sorted. xx
Let us know how you are getting on. Have you done anything at all yet? xx

Oh, and make a list of things people tradionally have in a wedding then re order the list in order of things you definitely want down to things that you'd not be upset about not having - that way when you work out you budget you can work out things to chop off the list if needs be. e.g on the botom of my list was favours and save the dates - they were the first things to go!
Happy planning. xx

Hi Kirstie,
I know how you feel, I started the planning very recently and it is daunting! But don't worry, as soon as you've made a plan and started ticking things of your list you will start to feel better, I promise. First of all, like everyone is saying, you need to set a budget. Next find your dream venue, get it booked as soon as you can and your registrar if its a non- religious ceremony. When you've done this start looking at wedding dresses and most importantly think about everything you need to "book" i.e caterer, photographer, florist, entertainment, DJ, honeymoon. Source these and get them booked as soon as you can. After that you can start thinking about the rest, invites, bridesmaids dresses, grooms and groomsmen suits, rings etc etc. Get some wedding magazines, they will help you get ideas. Ask for help from family and friends and most importantly make sure your fiance helps and gets involved with process!
xx
