Just a little something I've noticed lately while I'm trying to start my dress search - 99% of sites don't put so much as a guideline price on their dress listings! The only sites that will tell you exactly how much you pay are either online only sites or the Chinese etc sites that are apparently to be avoided at all costs! At least they are telling you how much you can expect to pay...which is more than I can say for most of the legitimate designers.

I find this slightly infuriating - when I'm trying to book appointments to try on dresses I'd at least like to know if any of the dresses I like in their store are within my budget... I understand they might vary a lot from store to store but would it really hurt for them to put even a guideline price on... why have a website for brides to look at if they offer little or no valuable information? I'd hate for me and my nana to drive all the way to a store just to find that they have nothing in my price range, which would be avoided if they used their websites properly.

And I don't like being too scared to like one dress too much incase I have the soul-crushing disappointment that could be its pricetag!

Am still excited like a kid on Christmas about trying on a zillion pretty dresses though :P

By the way.... myweddingdressforless is a supplier on here and chinese, and apparently....... really good, ive seen a few of the ladies dresses (use the search bar to find threads about it)

Also try searching to buy online, they usually about the same price as the bridal shops..... or get a list of the dresses you like and phone a shop and ask how much!

ty for the tips, I'm having a look as we speak :D

I've been leaning more towards the online/made-in-china side of things seeing as my budget could be either one dress from a bridal store, assuming I get really lucky ... or I could buy a dress from an online supplier and use the few hundred I'd save on something else!

I'll probably give the shops I'm booked in at a try, but chances are the way they are usually priced I'll end up wasting their time and mine... then go home and order one from the magical auction site we all know and love :)

Yep, it's really annoying. Some have guide prices saying their dresses are between x pounds and y pounds which can help. I was quite up-front about it when I rang to make appointments and asked the sort of range as I didn't want to be trying on stuff more than my budget. I find it even more annoying when venues don't give prices! x

I think the whole wedding industry as a whole aren't too fond of prices - they either hike them up for the 'w' word or don't tell you until you're already heart set on having it so you just find a way to pay for what you want :P

They are sneaky,I'll grant them that much.

I'm lazy so, as a rule, if a venue didn't have an idea of prices on their website I struck it off the list!

Hi Ataraxia I have found the same problem with bridal shops and even adverts in the mag`s don`t tell you the prices.Im booked into 8 bridal shops in Glasgow next week and have no idea of the cost of any of the designers they stock and im terrified i`ll try on a dress, fall in love and then find out its wayyyyy above my budget NIGHTMARE lol I was thinking maybe tell the dress assistants my budget at the start and hope they steer me away from the expensive ones. . . anyway like you im sooooo excited about it,I just can`t wait , good luck to you on your hunt and keep us girlies posted on your choice xxx

The shops I have been too asked me my budget before I started trying on dresses, although I do think they try a sneak a couple in that are above the range if they can

I think I'm lucky - I never wanted a traditional dress and have found a website that can make to order. My dress is a "bridesmaid" dress, and will cost £130. If it turns up and is absolute rubbish, I have a recommended dressmaker (friend's neighbour) as a backup to make it for me.

Going to see my mum today for measurements and to order it!

I know what you mean about lack of prices - a few venues I requested brochures from I binned immediately because of how glossy they were - the glossier the more expensive!

Best of luck everyone x x

yeah I think I might have to take the 'Please don't show me anything above my budget' approach, because just looking on the internet at some dresses I've found a few (trying not to think of a certain Maggie Sottero that I found by accident and love but know is at least £800!) and I know that if I fall in love with a dress then I'll never be happy with any other dress..

I'm going dress shopping a week tomorrow with my grandma in my hometown as she has some 'contacts' in a local wedding shop, hoping to find something perfect but not worrying as I live near Birmingham so have that as my back-up :P

the supplier i mentioned above copys the maggie dresses.... i was gonna get a china dress but changing hte date i didnt have time for them to make me 1, even a rush job was not fast enough, ended up with a second hand one of the bay!!!!

I told the shop i had a budget of £500 but still tried dresses at almost £900.... i tried them coz i wanted to find a dress or style i could ask ppl in china to make me, but if i had found one for £500 or less i would have bought that.... in 1 shop they had a back room full of dresses reduced to £99, my mum kept going in and bringing um to me, although none where my size (some had been £1000+)
