I cannot believe that i have never looked it up as an option before, and i always thought it would be sooooo tacky and unromantic...............but Gretna Green wedding packages look amaaaaaaaazing! I am not lying when i say i can barely breath wtih excitement at the possibility me and h2b could get married in Scotland (which secretly i have always wanted) and also next year rather than wait 2 years!! Now i am just waiting for Greg to phone in his break so i can let this scream of giddiness out!!! He may not go for it though, so i could be back on here in an hour all crestfallen, lol. Sod it i need to scream now........aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh!!!! That's better. :) Could you look at the link i will put up on my wall and tell me what you think of The Anvil Room for ceremony and Hetland Hall for reception please?? I need to be reassured that i am not just getting blinded by the great prices!! :) xx

I watched that programe brides on a bus and that was to win a wedding in gretna, which they showed it looked good, and they bang an the anvil for some traditional reason. Im gonna look at ya link now.

Thanks girls!! I was really quite shocked when i looked. My FIL 2b suggested it a while back and i disregarded it immediately as he only brought it up because it was cheaper than what we were looking at....but may have to eat my words and admit that actually it is beautiful place to get married. And if i can convince greg then i will be on cloud nine! Only problem i can see is guests travelling there, though i think it is a meet in the middle as some of my guests live in inverness and the rest are in liverpool, manchester, grantham and surrey. Do you think i might get a lot of guests dropping out?? xx

actually just been looking at travel distances on google maps and it isn't far at all for most of them, in fact less distance for my liverpool lot! and if we give everyone plenty of warning then accommodation won't be too pricey....listen to me, getting carried away before i have even spoken to my h2b about it, lol. calm calm calm, lol. x

It looks good, does it include an evening reception tho? what would you do at night? I think most guest would come, its prob somewhere they have never been and as you say its a meet in the middle, my family are in wigan, his in widnes and we are going wales, but im only having 19 adults!

gretna is only just in scotland.... i used to go to kendal alot and there are signs for it in the town there, and like you say them in inverness have to travel further, and prob would have travelled to liverpool, so the liverpool lot cant really complain!

I live near Grantham jenna, just have most of my family in Liverpool, and it is still less distance for them to travel, so it is looking good so far! And i am not sure about evening yet, gonna wait til i speak to greg and then find out. Still pretty inexpensive though and it is a lovely hotel for the reception too, a lot better than ones we have round here and half the price! :) x

Some places take the pee with prices for weddings, i was reading an article in the paper a few weeks back saying how florist can charge 4X more, same with hairdressers and venues. Im going to northop hall country hotel and i think it is very reasonably priced, my cousin is having a £999 holiday inn wedding, thats meals, buffet disco venue and extras, so some places are starting to be reasonable for us skint ppl.

I know what you mean Jenna, it is ridiculous that you can get your hair done for around £20-£30, but say wedding to a hairdresser and they end up charging around £200 for you and 3 bridesmaids!! So quite happy at my find, lol. And thanks Mrs Miller 2b, i value everyones opinion :) x

I love it!!! And the fact that it is in Scotland (just) i am so happy about, Greg thinks it would be romantic to have him (being english)and me (being scottish) married just on the border, awwwww, lol. He still has to look at it though when he gets home so here's hoping i can persuade him ;) x

I am sooo excited!!!!! Can't wait for him to get home. Though at the moment he is more excited about going us all going to France next week, don't blame him though, he works so hard and is looking forward to our first proper holiday together as a family. x
