OK so it isn't bad, just a lot!
Callum has 2 overdrafts coming in at £4000 together. Plus an outstanding amount for electricity from years ago (we were disputing it, so he has a default on his account, but it will be sorted soon).
Just got his student loan statement through - over £18,000!!!

Couple that with my £3000 overdraft, £6k of student loan....and oh dear :(

Nothing that isn't manageable with a bit of good budget management. Chris and I have combined student loan debt of over £50k. Pretty depressing, but a lifetime to pay it off.
As for the overdrafts, just take it on in small steps - don't despair!!

I'm still a student, and he will be a student again soon, so the overdrafts are acceptable I think!

Between us we have about 15-16,000 in debts from previous relationships but we have gone to one of these companys where they manage it for you. So at the mo we pay them £100 a month then they pay our debts for us and take a fee of £15 (which is included in the 100). will take 6 years to pay off but at least we dont get interest added to it.
Can inbox you the company we use if you want babe.

Student loans don't count as real debt lol, the payments come out yr wage automatically with tax etc so u never miss it and ull never need to pay off any more than about £30 a month that they take. So i just forget about mine lol!! xx

I know how u feel hun. We had a flat repossed and its gonna be sold way under what we paid for it, meaning we will have to pay back the difference! Im hoping it dont sell till after the wedding so we dont have to worry about paying it off. Plus i have loans and credits cards! pants aint it?!

im paying off my overdraft atm which isnt much but atleast 1 debt sorted. h2b has a few debts from when he was a teenager that have just caught up with him but hes managed to convince them he will pay £1 a month. I however would rather pay more and get it knocked off sooner than have a debt for life lol. my bank are reducing my overdraft by 40 a month so if you manage that then its a start xx

Don't use a fee paying debt company Hails. Payplan and the consumer credit counciling service (CCCS) will do all that your current debt intermediary do but for free and then the full £100 goes to the creditors. Am a financial advisor so know this stuff.

Erm if the electric bill is over 6 years then it will erase from his credit history and they can't legally chase you for it unless they take you to court which is highly unlikely. If it is under six years then don't admit the debt is yours again they would have to take you to court to get the money back which they don't like doing if the amount is under 1k.

Student loans suck, mine is still £13k but it's not like 'real' debt, it doesn't affect your ability to get a mortgage etc. I try to ignore it on my pay statements, just grumble when it's gone up or if they steal all my bonus ;) debt is rubbish but u just need to review the most cost effective ways of clearing it-don't pay more than u have 2! X
