Peter and I have been thinking over our blessing and we are really stumped when it comes to who will conduct the ceremony.

I have been looking for officiants in Spain and so far I am really not happy with any of them! They all seem quite expensive for what we actually need them to do. Most of them say that their prices include help writing vows, a meeting, help choosing music and readings and all that...I dont need them to do any of that. I have already chosen the music, I have already found readings. We have been looking at whether to write one set of vows together and both say them, or whether to write personal ones for ourselves.... But we definitely dont need help! All we need is someone we can arrange the ceremony with and then they turn up on the day and that is all... I dont need anyone telling us what is popular or what they wont do or what they thnk, we have no legal criteria to meet so we have designed a ceremony that is everything we want.

We tried to think if we have a friend who knows us and may be able to act as an officiant but we cant see anyone we know wanting to do it!

Then I came across an idea on an American forum, to have the bridal party conduct the ceremony... Basically the bridesmaids and the best man each say part of the ceremony and indicate for us to do vows... I think it sounds like a good idea but would our guests understand what is going on? Should I keep looking for an officiant or try to find if one of them will do as we ask?

    hey

sounds like a great idea, makes it more personal to you. maybe you should ask your bridal party firstly if they are willing to do it and if not then try and find someone. i dont see why the guests shouldnt understand!!!!

my cousin is marrying us as he is a minister so to us its a personal thing!!!

    good luck

    xx

Having got our friend to do the blessing yesterday, I can honestly say how much nicer it was to have someone who knew us conduct the ceremony! If the wedding party is game, then I say go for it. You might need to have a bit of a rehearsal to make sure it runs smoothly and when one person takes over speaking form the other, but I think other than that, great idea! Hx

you must make sure of the legalities
you dont want to find that your not legally married.

Heather could have a friend do her blessing (as can i) as there is no legal basis to the ceremony.... we are having a registar do ours but they have to see our certificate so that they know we are legally married before doing out uk ceremony

We will be legally married before we go to Spain so dont think there is any legal stuff we need to do! We just want to do the blessing as a way to have the ceremony we want haha.

Thanks Heather, after your comment I have asked my bridesmaids if they are happy to do this special ceremony for us... Just waiting to hear back now! Im glad your blessing went well!

Thanks everyone else as well for your comments :) really appreciate it! X

We are doing this on our wedding day, although we have just asked a good friend to do the whole ceremony as we aren't having a bridal party (except my daughter who will be 4 and the best man).
We are popping to the registery office early, I think we have the first slot lol. then having the 'proper' ceremony in the afternoon, so good excuse to wear 2 dresses :)
The only problem we have is planning the ceremony and what we want to say etc. Luckily we aren't getting married til 2013 so we have plenty of time.

I have a document of a ceremony I can link you to if you want Linzmum!

It is the one we are using, we are just going to use the parts we like best and find our own poems and readings etc and write our own vows!

Asked the bridesmaids and they are more than happy to go along with it so that is great!

thats would be great if you don't mind.
I'm glad you found someone to hold the ceremony for you. Personally I think it will be a lot more personal and relaxed to have people you know running things.

We thought so but were worried people wouldnt think we were serious if we didn't have an 'official looking person' up there but we decided as long as we are able to do things our way and we have our vows, it doesn't matter what everyone else thinks!

I will find it and pop it on your wall now!

    Thank you.
I know what you mean, I did look at hiring a company to over see things but it simply doesn't fit into our budget. Luckily our families are both quite relaxed about things like this so they all understand what's going on and why we have choosen who we have to run the ceremony.

On your wall,:) hope it helps!

If anything it gave us a big head start on deciding how to structure the vows!

    Ditto :)

We haven't started seriously getting vows etc together yet, I have a small collection of things I have collected from books, music and movies etc and a few poems and readings but not made a big start on the actual ceremony wording!

no we aren't too bothered about it at the moment as we want to involve our daughter some how so want to wait til she's older (she'll be 4 1/2 by then) so we know how best to this
