Hello All, I hope you are all well and congratulations to everyone who has lost weight for their wedding.
I hope you don't mind me offering some tips..

I have done A LOT of research into the ****** diet/lifestyle. It basically involves cutting out all refined and processed foods, including but not limited to.. all grains - breads, pastas, cereals, cakes, oats, pastries; processed food like microwave meals, pre-made pasta sauces (not including passata and tinned tomatoes) all sugary drinks, cereal bars - basically anything that has come from a factory.

I know that sounds fairly nuts, but believe me it is easier than you would think. I cook everything from scratch and batch cook a lot to freeze so there is plenty to 'grab and go'.

You may think you need these foods in your diet for carbohydrates, but fruit and veg is a much healthy source of carbohydrates which will keep you fuller for longer, stop cravings and also balance hormones and energy levels. All carbohydrates are broken down into sugar when digested, whether that is a biscuit, fruit smoothie, bread, pasta, musli, veg etc. the difference being that fruit and veg do not cause a huge spike in blood sugar and the hormone insulin. When blood sugar spikes, insulin is released to lower the blood sugar. These peaks and drops in blood sugar lead to fatigue, and fatigue leads to our brains craving a quick energy fix (sugar). So if you struggle with a sweet tooth/cravings, your best bet is to eliminate sugar unless it has come from fruit and veg, and the craving will decrease. Granted the first few days will be hard work, cravings, headaches, tired.. however, once you come through the other side you will have lots of energy balanced throughout the day, weight will drop off - especially around the stomach area - your skin and hair will be clearer and it can also be the cure to many many other ailments and illnesses.

How it helps you lose weight - if you stick to low GI carbs (fruit and veg) and cut out processed sugar you will give your body the chance to burn stored fat. Even if you exercise regularly, our bodies preferred source of energy is sugar, because it is quick and easy to burn, so if you constantly have over 100-150 grams of carbs (sugar) a day you will never give your body a chance to start burning fat. If you eat more sugar than you burn every day, that excess sugar is converted into adipose tissue (fat).

Healthy fats are also essential if you want to lose weight - butter, lard, olive oil, avocados, nuts and seeds. Avoiding fat by using low cal oils, spreads and sprays will prevent you losing weight and will make you deficient in (at least) vitamins A, D, E and K as they are all fat soluble vitamins (can only be absorbed in the presence of healthy fats)

every meal should consist of - Females - 1 portion of protein the size of your fist, 2 fist fulls of fruit or veg and a portion of healthy fats the size of your thumb. Males need to double these measurements.

When doing anything to lose weight ensure you measure yourself (arms - at widest point, chest - just under bra, waist - at narrowest point, hips - at widest point, bum - - at widest point, thighs - - at widest point) and take pictures of yourself. The scales can be deceiving, especially if you are exercising as muscle is more dense than fat, and can be really de-motivating so try to avoid scales and go by measurements, pictures and how your clothes fit.
Scales show weight loss/gain, the rest will show fat loss.

Please research yourself by typing in ***** to google or reply to this post if you have specific questions.
it isn't a diet product, it is just eating real food, the way our grandparents ate, the way nature intended

two side notes - some fruit is higher in sugar than others, berries are your best bet
    - if checking a label, divide the grams of sugar by 4.2 - this will tell you how many teaspoons of sugar there are.
e.g 500ml bottle of Ribena - 11.9 TEASPOONS OF SUGAR PER BOTTLE! :O

Wow lots of posts since I was last on here - someone asked about doing crunches on a medicine ball and just wanted to say that is a great way of doing crunches. I also use mine to do tricep dips, pikes, planks and glute bridges. Have also managed a few press ups with my tip toes balancing on top of the ball but my balance wasn't quite good enough to stay up there for long. At the end of a workout I also love to kneel up on top of the ball to test my core stability and to also strengthen it at the same time... definitely not reay to try standing on top of it yet though.

    ANYONE TRIED A P*E*R*S*O*N*A*L T*R*A*I*N*E*R?

    Hi Ladies

Looks like I finally found the right place to post this- thanks lala-mod- sorry to have been overcrowding with new threads!

I have been thinking about going the personal training route, and have some questions to ask, if anyone else out there has tried it.
I feel like I'm getting my eating habits under control, but I've still got 6 stone to lose, and low-cal soups on their own aren't going to cut it.

So, for someone as gym phobic as me (I've face planted a treadmill before) do you think a personal trainer might be the answer? I am motivated, I'm just clueless- the world of exercise is entirely new to me. I'd really love some professional input- I feel that a trainer might be able to set me up with a healthy routine that I'll be able to follow on my own afterwards. It'd also be great to get some input on the diet I'm on.

BUT! I have so many questions about this... It'd be great if any of you have experience/ recommendations?

    - is it horribly painful?
    - is it embarrassing? I really don't want to be fat-shamed onto a treadmill!
    - is it expensive? (I've got a whole wedding to pay for!)
    - does it take over your whole life? I mean- the most convenient would obviously be to just be able to do it from home
    - is that an option? I mean- does anyone know about any skype session trainers? Is that even a thing?

This is a major change of lifestyle and mindset for me- it'd be so helpful to have some feedback from the community.

    Thanks all!

I've lost four kilos, largely through a 1400 calorie diet, cycling to work and back, and toning (more recently Pilates). I'm happy with my weight now, but my waist measurement doesn't seem to be changing much. I've still got flab on my stomach and upper arms that I want to lose. Any thoughts? I don't have a huge amount of time to spend on exercises, only about 15 minutes or so a day.

Emmabear - Sounds like PT is a good option for you but make sure you do some research before you actually sign up. I'm still training and not fully qualified yet but I can tell you that there are lots of PT courses available and apart from some core content the courses offer different coponent modules so each PT can pick a course depending on an area they would like to specialise in, like when you see a doctor at the hospital, they've all had the same core training but then chose an area to specialise in - with me so far? So if running isn't your thing then picking a trainer who specialises in running isn't going to be as effective for you as one who has decided to specialise in weight management.
To answer your questions: no, it won't be horribly painful so long as you're motivated. You can expect to feel fatigued and your muscles will burn (followed by soreness) but nothing painful.
It won't be embarrasing at all - the PT ewill be used to working with all shapes and sizes and shouldn't put you on a treadmill if its something you're really not comfortable with (there are plenty of other forms of cardio).
Prices can vary greatly but as I said before, the area of specialty should be the main factor when deciding who to go with. Around here (Beds) prices tend to be about £35+p/h but most PTs will offer a discount for block booking and may have additional offers available on their websites. If the prices do seem a little too steep for you and you have the motivation you can always see the PT once a fortnight or once a month and ask for a workout plan to be done by yourself in between sessions.
Taking over your life is a very difficult one - its entirely down to you! If you want lasting weight-loss then yes a lifestyle overhaul is probably going to be required, but with gradual changes you'll find you're happy to make. Oh and yes, a PT will be able to come over to do sessions in your home.
I believe there are some online PTs available, again you'll have to do some research.
One last thing - I've heard about people being put on diet plans to shed weight quickly. I understand that the PTs who do this know that the weight will immediately pile back on again (plus a little extra) when the client stops dieting and will then go back to them for more sessions, whereas my view is I'd rather take a client through a slow and steady program where they keep off all the weight they lost and will then hopefully recommend me to a friend. Anyway, its entirely up to you which approach you'd rather go for but it is another thing to bear in mind when selecting a PT.

Elinor - Try doing some upper body tabata sessions. Ideally grab yourself some big weights but otherwise body weight exercises should be OK to begin with. Tabata is where you give 100% effort for 25 seconds, rest for 10 seconds and then move into the next movement. The theory is that you can get through a really effective workout in just 8 minutes (but you must give it 100%). Let me know what equipment you have available and I'll be able to suggest some moves for your tummy and arms.

I'm looking into my options, and think I may have found something that suits my budget and my schedule. I don't want to get too excited yet, though- I'll come back and share with all of you once I get going.

Elinor Claire - intersperse the workout with some cardio: burpees, ice skaters, star jumps (or even military star jumps), mountain climbers and jogging on the spot. Upper body and ab moves: press ups (on your knees if you're not ready to get onto your toes), bicycle crunches, leg raises, v-sit crunches and plank. With the weights: tricep kickbacks, tricep extensions, bicep curls, lateral raises, clean and press (usually done with a bar but you should be OK with a weight in each hand), punch out in front, punch up in the air, wood chops, flyes and bent over rows.
Pick a few moves (mix and match each session), pair them up and repeat the two moves 4 times and then move onto the next pair. Remember 100% effort for 25 seconds, rest for 10 seconds and then straight into the next move. Do this at least 3 times a week and let me know when you're ready for some additional/more advanced moves. Always warm up by doing gentle versions of the movements you'll be going through and then stretch out all your muscles to cool down.
    Happy sweating!

Well done everybody... I have my 1st weigh in at weight watchers tonight so fingers crossed. I haven't gone in full swing just yet. Cut out sugar from hot drinks and logging everything on an app to keep track and eating more fruit, 3 meals a day. Making more conscious decisions.

My hardest meal is lunch as I work on the road and don't have a microwave or fridge to keep things in, I used to be awful at just popping to mcds for a quick lunch but no more!! I have a long way to go in a year and I doubt il be at my desired destination by my wedding but I'm hoping to make a good dent in it!

Love the thread for extra support and so that we don't feel alone!

I've stayed the same this week, but I possibly went over a bit at the weekend. Next weekend is a hen do (not mine) so that's not going to be good, but hopefully during the weeks either side I can limit the damage. When we chose our food for the Italian I tried to choose things that didn't look too bad, but that's without pudding and there will be drinks.

Ladies! I think I've found the solution to all my dieting and health woes! I've been trying to hunt down a PT that will suit my lazy bones lifestyle, and a friend suggested a gym in London to me. I was poking around on their website, and I found that they have a chef there who cooks amazing healthy meals, which they deliver directly to your door, TWICE a DAY! For a FIVER!

The menu looks to good to be true- maple and walnut glazed chicken and asparagus cous cous, grilled salmon with honey and basil sauce... I'm drooling on myself.

Anyways, I'm going to look into signing up- this would be SO MUCH easier and tastier than trying to think of healthy meals every night and ending up eating the same old wilted veggies and grilled chicken. Probably cheaper, too.

I'll post a link to the menu here, so you can drool along with me:

That's an amazing offer Emma, wish they had that by me as usually they are ao expensive and I just cannot bring myself to spend that amount on it. Good luck!

I had my first weigh in on Tuesday at WW and lost 6lbs yay! Really was not expecting much this week but it does show all the small changes add up.

Really loving WW at the moment... I feel quite empowered on it and the amount of points is actually a lot more than I need for a decent days food so I totally feel it is do able even with a normal lifestyle.

I've not started exercising yet, I think il start when I feel a bit more confident and the weight loss slows down but would highly recommend WW!

Keep up the good work girlies, I love reading about your progress and achievements :) x

I do have slim fast ready made shakes for lunch sometimes and always keep some in my fridge just in case. I have never fully followed slim fast but those shakes are alright and do actually stop my stomach from rumbling for a bit. As I work on the road lunch can be tricky which is why I keep these handy. I love the. Banana one!

Ive got a bit problem. Im really struggling to lose the weight, when i ordered my dress and got measured, I was 3 different sizes! 20 round the bust, 22 on the waist, and 24 on the hips, we went for the middle mark, and ordered a 22, Ive put weight on since then unfortunately. Ive tried slimming world, and cant really afford to go to any other classes, Im not confident enough to go swimming, what kind of exercises can I try at home? I also have PCOS which makes it very difficult for me to lose weight as my body seems to cling on to it xx

I have just joined a bootcamp by me. We meet 3 times a week and I can safely say its so much better than the gym! I find it so much harder but I love it! I have a target to tone up in 6 weeks but I cant loose weight as ive had my final fitting! ! I would be happy if I lost 8lb too but well see! I just had to share with you lovely ladies!!

Natalie, can you incorporate a walk or bike ride to work? I lost weight doing that. Also calorie counting has worked well for me. 1400 calories and 30 mins brisk walking each day should lose you around a pound a week.

I'll try figure out how to post it to my profile, if any of you want to have a look at the AMAZING healthy food delivery service 'Bamn fit' (it's only a fiver a meal!) that I'm signing up to in London.
