I know I can do it; a few years ago I got from 78 kilos to 59, although because I started with a BMI of 32 I had help from my G.P. and a dietician. I'm just annoyed with myself that I let it get back up to 64. Once I'd got to a healthy weight I relaxed too much, and once I stopped weighing myself regularly the weight started to creep back on. At least I'm still well below my worst, and I won't make the same mistake this time. I knew that Christmas was going to be bad, but I'm probably still a couple of kilos lighter than I would have been if I hadn't started to lose weight before Christmas.

    Hi All,
Wedding's in June this year and I've eaten my bodyweight of food since December. My BMI is 32. I've been a yoyo dieter all my life but I'm determined to shift some lard before the wedding. 4lbs off by eating sensibly last week, plus swimming. Off to see GP now try and get her to put me on the GP exercise referal programme. Wish me luck!! xx

I had a BMI of 32 at one point and I think I'd down to a healthy weight in six months, although I can't remember for certain. I was on Orlistat, which was great for getting a kick start, as it increases your weight loss by fifty per cent by limiting the amount of fat you can absorb. It's not a long term solution though.

OK, so one week down and I have lost half a lb in weight, 1 inch from my chest, 1 inch from my waist, half an inch from my hips and a quarter of an inch from my thighs and arms. Not bad considering I only managed 2 workouts this week (totally over did it on Tuesday which took until yesterday to recover from). Currently a size 10 and am hoping to get back into a 6 (the size I was when OH and I started seeing each other) by the wedding in October, but will be happy with a size 8 (the size I was shortly after we moved in together) - When I first decided to start losing weight I had just gone out and purchased a size 16 dress (I'm only 5'4") and decided enough was enough. Starting to think my BM might win the money but I don't care so long as my dress looks good.

Congrats everyone! :) it's lovely to see/read everyone losing their weight and achieving their goals! Makes me motivated to do it too!

Nice long session at the gym, 40 minutes cardio and then 25 mins weights and dreaded sit ups! Then a lovely dinner of stir fried beef and vegetables!!

Showgirl it is on foleshill road and called sw33t memories, our work swear by them! I missed then soo bad today!!
Well done for getting down to a size 10! That's my goal size although I'd love an 8!! Very much doubt it as I am quite broad boned but I MUST have a flat stomach!! Hehe
I was the same as you, I bought a size 18 dress and thought this has got to stop!!

LOL I assumed it would be on Foleshill Road for some reason... tempted to check them out myself next time I'm back in Cov, suddenly got a bit of a craving.
Your workout sounds good - I'm really jealous as today is my rest day and I'm just itching to get into the gym. Nothing to dread about sit ups - its the burpees I dread.
I was feeling good about my loss so far until the gym hired a new instructor who had gone from a size 28 to an 8! You can always change your goal to be an 8 and then if you do manage it you'll obviously be happy but if not then you'll hopefully be at a 10 which you'll still be happy about because it was the original goal.

    I lost 2lb this week which I really wasn't expecting :D

Lost majority of my Christmas weight, just 0.5lb to go!

My Leader was dead impressed and wants me to try the same again for next week. Just finished making my butternut squash soups for the week to stay on track :)

Just heard from my friend and neighbour about her personal training sessions.
She had said they are £25 a session and I could block book and she'd do me a good deal.. Now she is saying they are £30 an hour and 'as a friends deal' she'll do 4 for £100.. I just feel a bit cheated!
I'm gonna be brave and say 'oh, thought they were £25 a session? And how long is a session?' But I'm worried she'll take the hump. Prob just reading into it too much tho.
I'm disappointed as I was looking forward to them but feel a bit like she is cheating me, 4 for £100 is not a friends deal. It is her bumping the price and making it sound like a good deal!!
Am I being silly? Do you think they are still worth the money?

The going rate for PT aroud here £35-£40 per hour but most seem to offer block booking at work out the be about £25 per hour long session and slightly cheaper still if you work out with a friend (who pays the same amount).
I have never been able to afford them on top of my gym membership and bills etc so have just been going up to the instructors at the gym and asking them for advice - most (but unfortunately not all) instructors are really passionate about what they do and are more than happy to talk to you and offer advice. I've been a bit cheeky and taken it a step further - instead of just asking for advice I'll now see if certain instructors are in (the ones who I consider friends) and then grab them and have them take me through how to get the most from a certian piece of equipment.
Hiring a PT can be a really good option so if you can afford it then go for it, but do a little research first - different PTs have different areas of specialty. I plan to specialise in weight loss, diabetes management and ante and post-natal fitness for example, whereas one of the instructors I grab at the gym specialises in martial arts and pad work so he's the one I grab to help me with my technique on the punch bag. Others specialise in running and because I hate running I wouldn't be asking for their help. So just make sure the PT you hire will help you achieve your goals. As part of the training all PTs will have thorough knowledge of anatomy and physiology so if its general weight loss/fitness you're after then you should be ok, but if you've got a very specific goal in mind (like a triathlon or marathon or something) then pick your PT carefully.

I think I might ask her if I can do one session for the £30 rate and tell her I'll see what I think. See if she focuses on the things I want as you say. Great advice, thanks :)
I've asked her and she says her rent at the gym has gone up so she has to up her rate. I do feel bad for ranting about it but I was just let down!

If her rent at the gym has gone up then you can always ask to have sessions outside of the gym - at home or outside etc.

She has said first session £25 and we'll see how it goes from there.

If you're going to be away for a week then you can always take a laptop or potable DVD player and continue with the 30DS if the hotel(s) don't have a gym.

Hi all; I'm a size 12 at the moment but would like to be a size 10 but I don't mind if I stay size 12; I just want to tone my stomach and arms so going to take the plunge and invest in a cross trainer with next month's pay :)

Also going to start my crunches again and my dumb bells :)

How many times do you exercise a week? I was going to try and use my cross trainer (when I buy it :p) for about 20 minutes a day and then build the time over a couple of weeks. At the moment; I don't eat much anyway as I have a 99 calorie yogurt for breakfast; skip lunch and then have dinner :)

Mrs malon, tut tut!! Never skip a meal! That's the worse diet sin ever! It also sounds like, unless you have a 1101 calorie dinner, you are seriously under eating and exercise is dangerous without fuel in your body.
    Sorry to rant at you!

I exercise 3-4 times a week at the gym and on 'rest days' I'll try and have a walk to just do something.

I really want a cross trainer for my house but I worry I won't use it, I love it at the gym but I barely stick to 30DS in the house!! Love my sofa too much

I don't intend to miss lunch; I just get up about 10:30am and then mess around so have 'breakfast' around 11:30am and then leave for work and get back at 7pm for dinner :S

Maybe I should make myself have something. I'm probably on about 800 calories a day as I burn off my breakfast during work :S

I workout 5 times a week (assuming I don't push too hard and end up too sore to move for the next 4 days!) for between 1 and 4 hours a time, doing a variety of exercises and different classes... but I eat three meals a day plus snacks (the yoghurt I would have with some toasted porridge flakes and berries for breakfast) to fuel the workouts. Skipping meals slows down the metabolism and so you'll be more likely to store the calories as fat as the body enters starvation mode. If you're doing weight/resistance training along with the cardio then your body is going to continue to burn calories for up to 48 hours after you stop exercising so it's ok to have the occassional treat - look after your body by enjoying your food, throw in plenty of exercise and your body will reward you.
Oh and drink plenty of water, especially as your working out - ice cold water also helps pep up the metabolism as the body has to work to warm the water up to body temperature.

800 calories a day - Did I read that right?
You definitely need to eat more hun. You want to aim for a minimum of 1200 a day. There is a formula to work out exactly how much you should be consuming based on your height, weight, measurements etc which I'm more than happy to give you, but there are free websites available which will do this calculation for you... just search for BMR (basal metabolic rate) calculators or sign up to a site that will work out your daily calorie allowance and provide you with a food and fitness diary and plenty of recipes - the one with the initial MFP comes to mind here as its also free.
Could you maybe make more at dinner time and then have the left-overs for lunch? Or maybe whip up a sandwich for the following day whilst your dinner is cooking?

Well yesterday was a decent start. 1200 calories, 30 minutes on the trampette, a busy day in work which meant lots of time on my feet, and a few minutes toning in the evening. Ideally I would have cycled to work today but a podiatry appointment put paid to that, as it would have taken me too long to get into work afterwards, so I had to take the car in. I will go on the trampette again this evening.

Well my 30day shred DVD turned up today :) heard so many good things about it.

I've lost around 5lb in just over 2 weeks of watching what I eat.

I'm 5ft7 and 12st 2lb, size 12/14 top, 14/16 bottom. my goal is to get down to around 11st 5lb

I have 7 month I'm sure I can do it ;) tbh I'm happy with my size and would just be happy to tone up.

1200 calories again yesterday, with some toning and 30 minutes jogging on a trampette. Today I've put the car at H2B's house, as I finish work at 8:00 tonight and will be going there afterwards. That means 30 minutes walk each way. Calories a little bit more of a challenge with evening shifts, as my meal break is 4:30-5:00, meaning I will definitely be wanting something to eat after work as well, but hopefully with the pasta salad that I have with me, which is 290 calories, I will have enough calories left to have something after work.

Hi Ladies, just checking in after completing my 2nd Davina Aerobics DVD of the week (I am aiming for a minimum of 3 a week). I went for the Kick fit one today.

So far have been going with my healthy eating plan/exercise plan with the help of My Fitness Pal App for just over a week.
I have been aiming too have 1200 calories a day - that way if I do go slightly over it will still be less than what I was eating a day beforehand.

Have to say, I am finding it easier than I thought in terms of my food intake. Up until I started this plan, I was a massive snacker and it would normally be all the wrong things!!

Now my daily food diary goes along the following:

Breakfast: Kell-0gs Breakfast Bar OR BElvITa breakfast biscuit.
1st break at work (for those that do not know I work in a school): Orange (today I had 2!) and Dair-yLEA dunking snack
    Lunch: Salad & a Kell-0gs Breakfast Bar
Dinner: Usually some kind of meat with Veg so tonight we are having hunters chicken, rice, spinach, green beans and sweetcorn.
If I do feel the need to snack I now have pistachios or if I am at home a bowl of cereal.

Fingers crossed this will help me lose a little weight.

I am also going to be playing Badminton with H2b once a week (at least). We did this before he injured his ankle quite badly and I want to start to do this again.

Have decided not to really weight myself but go on inches, this is mainly because I have no scales at home but plan to measure every 2 weeks so my first measurement will be on Monday. I measured myself a couple of days after starting my new food/exercise plan and my starting measurements are:

B: 41.5 (I would rather not lose anything off of here haha!)
    W: 35.5
    H: 43.5

OK. I know your all supportive on here and my family being my mum ect wouldnt really care. I used to he a size 14 and after having kids and back problems my weight just added up. So became a size 20. I started hating the way I looked recently after looking at a PIC of myself. ( I never look at pics of me) and when looking in the mirror I looked at my hair and skin I decided I had to sort my self out. So I took a big step. I thru out all the junk food and got healthy snacks. ( we have a chocolate as I hare it and its a treat for the kids) and dished up smaller portions. And just by eating healthy and walking more i am now a size 18. I have the ok from my physico that I can start exceriscing with my back becoming more of a problem. So I was wondering if any could give some advice. I am unhealthy and my wedding is way of this is just I life style change. How long should I start with with as anything over 30 mins may kill me.lol. And what is the best way of getting rid of my double chin. As now im sick of hidding it.

    Sorry for the long post.

30 minutes exercise a day is enough. You just need to make sure you follow your physio's advice about what exercises to do. With a back problem swimming and aqua aerobics might be good. The main thing is to follow a diet that you can sustain. The NHS plan is 1400 calories a day, making sure that it includes five portions of fruit and veg.You still need to allow yourself some treats within your calorie allowance, otherwise you'll be more likely to abandon it. You could speak to your G.P., as if your BMI is more than 28, or maybe 30, they will provide help. I lost a lot of weight with a dietician who I was referred to via my G.P.

TaidiN - First I want to congratulate you on the weight loss so far. I would suggest starting off with low impact exercises until the physio says its ok to increase the intensity. Try aqua aerobics (typically 45 minutes to an hour per class but it's low impact and once you're in the water the time will fly by and the class will be over before you can even think about having a breather).
Yoga and pilates are also nice low impact options to consider as well.
You may also consider joining a gym - the gym instuctors will be able to tailor a workout programme according to your needs - so you tell them goals, any existing injuries, things you do and don't like and that initially you'd like to start out with a 30 minute workout and they will then be able to design a workout for you there and then. Additionally a large number of gym instructors with be qualified personal trainers, some of whom will specialise in GP referral and will be used to designing workouts around injuries and can work in partnership with your physio to help strengthen your back.
As for the double chin - unfortunately the best way to get rid of it is to just continue with the weight loss and it'll disappear soon enough.

Are you checking your portion sizes? It's easy to think that you're eating healthily because the food is healthy, but if there is too much of it you might still be eating too many calories. You might find it helpful to measure your waist and hips as well, as the exercise will build up muscle which weighs four times as much as fat. Also don't forget that fruit still has calories, so you still need to watch how much of it you it.

Thats very true about the fruit, i've been having special k for breakfast then a plum and a handful of grapes about 11am, lunch is usually soup or beans on toast and then i have a plum and an apple about 4pm! Then obviously an evening meal normaly fish and new pots with veg! Maybe that is still to much? :( xx

What you're eating sounds fine - I'd maybe swap some of the fruit for some nuts or veg as fruit contains a lot of sugar. Don't forget to have a post-wokout snack that's high in protein - perhaps some eggs or if you can't eat anything then have a glass of milk.
Definitely agree with getting the tape measure out instead of relying on just the scales.
If you're measuring your gym sessions based on distance then I'm guessing you're mostly doing cardio - try adding in some more weight training. You'll still burn calories whilst working with the weights but it will mean that your body will still continue to burn a higher rate of calories for up to 48 hours afterwards whereas the calories burnt from cardio is just what you burn as you're working out.

Amy the food that you're eating sounds fine. It might be worth keeping a detailed food and exercise diary, and recording both weight and hip and waist measurements each week. Then if nothing seems to be happening you could show that to your G.P. and show that you're doing all the right things, as sometimes a thyroid problem can cause weight issues. However if your hip and waist measurements go down I wouldn't worry.

Pushing it a little bit today, as I had a chocolate cake snack at work, plus a flapjack at a meeting, and H2B did Bolognese for dinner. At least he used lean turkey mince.

    2lb off :) I'm so happy!!
Now I'm on my way to being a bikini clad goddess :)

Impressed also as I did a lot of drinking on Wednesday night, but I suppose the rumour that a weight resistance work out keep burning fat long after you've stopped must be true! :)

Now, off to Aberdeen for my friends hen do, bring on the calorie laden shots I'll regret and work off later! Can't fit my trainers in my carry on bag but brought my swimming cozzie and I'll convince mammy bear to come swimming with me, and I'll do some walks!

I will be a thin bride!

Ooh joining this! My wedding is in June so after Christmas I suddenly had a major panic and realised I needed to shift the lard, quick style! I did lose all my baby weight etc after having my second baby in 2011, I did weight watchers, but I ended up putting it all back on and another stone on top! I've got just over a stone and a half to go to get to my goal weight now. When I ordered my dress my measurements matched the 16.. so I ordered the 14! (Though they tell me it's more a 10-12 as the sizes come up small? I'm more a 12-14 at the moment anyway).

Crawf, you're from Coventry too aren't you? There's a few personal trainers at my gym, one of them was trying to poach me the other day lol, he said his sessions are £20? He offered me 10 for £150 which I thought was quite good, I can't afford it though! xx

Oops I didn't even say what I've lost so far! I started at the beginning of Jan just eating healthily and gym 3 times a week and lost 2.5lb. Started SW a week ago and have really liked it, was terrified I wasn't going to lose anything because I was so surprised at how easy it was - but weighed myself this morning and I've lost 2lb! Not bad for my first week so will stick with SW for a while I think! So that's 4.5lb off so far :-)

With all the congratulations in order to everyone who has just posted their losses, especially when you've just quit smoking as well, I decided to have a quick look at the tape measure - I've lost a further half an inch from both my arm and my chest since my last weigh-in but I'm not going to measure anywhere else today as Monday is my official weigh-in day. Was going to drive into town later but think I might keep up the momentum and walk instead.

Hi all; can't wait to be able to order my cross trainer next month; I probably could afford it this month but want to keep what I have in the bank at the moment incase any bills pop up e.t.c

I'm determined to start eating properly; at the moment as I said earlier I tend to just have lunch and dinner as I get up late or play a game so don't think about breakfast :S I'm now making sure I have a glass of fruit juice in the morning rather then tea. I know fruit juice still has sugar in it but at least it is healthier then tea and hopefully it will make my skin more hydrated as I don't drink enough :S

Plus having a job now; means I am constantly on my feet; walking around and bending up and down while picking up clothes so hopefully that is helping.

Got a while to the wedding yet but want to start getting into a routine anyway; even if it just to tone up my stomach and arms more :)

Well as the weeks are quickly passing to my wedding I decided 2 weeks to ago to now fully commit myself to loosing weight!

Last week I lost 4lbs... this week 2lbs so im over the moon!

Only 1 stone 1lb to go!

But..... I won a competition for a week's bootcamp in Marbella on 23rd Feb so my aim before I go is to loose another 5lbs.... in 5 weeks (which i think is more than doable) then wen im there loose half a stone or more.....
then when i get back its merely half a stone to go!

I am joining a local gym this weekend (with a massive push from a mate) so im hoping that, healthy eating, bootcamp will get me to my weight!!!!

My dress fitting is on april 5th so keep ur fingers crossed for meeeeeeeee :D x

    Happily Married! :) xxx
