Well I was ment to be starting my healthy eating and exercise plan this week, however as always something happens.

I've been diagnosed with sciatica, strained lower back muscles and a chest infection!

What a great way to start the year lol

Oh dear! You can always get started with the healthy eating now. The strained lower back and chest infection will clear up soon enough so you can then get started with the exercise plan. Just make sure there is absolutely no back pain or niggles before getting stuck in.

I find it SO hard to eat healthy when working away and almost impossible to exercise.
Breakfast I am fine with as there are plenty healthy options (which I didnt partake in this morning, naughty katie) but having an evening meal out with colleagues, especially somewhere like an indian restaurant or chinese restaurant where others order for you, is challenging especially now I am starting again.
I know it is silly but when everyone around you orders a starter you are expected to aswell. I hate the attitude of "oh, katie isnt ordering a starter.. lets all mock her for dieting!" Or I just join in to be a fatty.

Lunchtime is worse as normally the place I am working orders in for me and I have no choice, I also have no access to a kettle or microwave to make a healthy soup or bring somethign to heat up, no fridge in the hotel to make a salad...

Exercise is out of the question as we work 7am - 8pm most days and I am exhausted, or we go back to the hotel and straight for food and have no time. I could get up earlier and do something in the morning but I am lazy.
I manage a 7 minute app, a few crunches or I squat for 2 minutes while I brush my teeth but no cardio :(

I know this is just a rant but needed it out!!!

Must be tomorrow I start now.. given up on the idea of healthy eating today, and my trousers hurt from cutting in. They fit 2 weeks ago :(

Tomorrow will be a healthy breakfast of fruit salad and greek yoghurt,
    Lunch of lentil soup
Dinner of a baked potato and chilli or something like that.
I am out seeing Maroon5 at the NEC and so it will be something I can grab there for the gig and will go for the healthiest option.
Will do my 30DS when I get in from work as thats all I will have time for.

First day back at the gym on Thursday!

COME ON CRAWFY YOU CAN BE THIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If time is an issue then I reccomend doing a tabata workout which can be as short as 4 minutes but will rev up your metabolism and torch fat and will give you a good combination of cardio and toning exercises - the only catch is that you have to give it 100% effort, and I mean 100% so no mutlitasking. I'm told there are some tabata apps available or you can make up your own routine and just have a stop watch to hand.
Don't beat yourself up about the food. There are still healthier choices at restuarants (try and stay away from kormas as they're loaded with oil and cream for instance) and I find the main problem with restuarant food is the portion size is just far too big - just because its on your plate doesn't mean it has to be finished off. Just eat whatever you want until you're satisfied and then leave the rest.
A number of books and online resources suggest that people trying to sabotage your weight loss attempts often do so subconciously as it holds a mirror to themselves being out of shape, in your case though it sounds like they're fully conscious of it and are trying to stop you anyway... but wouldn't it be great if you were still able to join in the meals out and still look amazing?! It'll be hard work getting there but they'll soon be asking for advice on how you did it.
Great that you have 30DS - I just love JM. She has recently launched a class and I enquired about becoming licensed to teach it but so far its only available in the US and Canada. Her people promised to let me know when it's available over here - can't wait, it looks sooo intense!

I've found there are tricks to eating out. You can try to reduce your calories during the day if you know you're eating out that evening. Also having fruit before going out so you're not starving will help. For starters there will usually be an option of fruit, salad or soup, or in an Indian a couple of poppadoms aren't disastrous. For mains, in Italian places try to go for fish, and in Indian places the Tandoori dishes are more healthy.

Lana2BMrsHands it sounds the weight gain is most likely down to muscle gain. Given you're working out, the fat is coming off and you're gaining muscle which requires your body to use up more calories/fat to fuel the muscle so basically your body is now working in your favour and don't worry, muscle gain doesn't mean you're going to bulk up. Ditch the scales and just grab the tape measure from this point to track progress.
If the scales have gone up since Christmas (when we normally over-indulge) but you're exercising regularly, it sounds like you may be restricting your diet a bit too much. Try eating a little more to keep your metabolism fired up. Keep the meals nutritionally balanced so the body knows its not going into starvation mode and you'll be able to keep the weight off after the wedding too.

Hey all; I keep getting told that I don't need to lose any weight but I would like to be 9 stone; currently at 10 1/2 with Christmas but apparently that is fine for my height and age.

I really want to tone my stomach and arms though; can anyone recommend any good exercise equipment to get at home? I was looking into getting a cross trainer as I love the one at my mum's house and you could quite easily do 20 - 30 mins or more while watching the tv or listening to music :)

MrsMalin2B - I cannot rave about the cross trainer enough!
I fought it hard to run or to do too many weight baring exercises as I have shin splints and was very very unfit.. I started the cross trainer in February last year and by Easter had lost 2 stone and toned up my arms so much.
    I love love love it!
Cannot wait to get back on it tomorrow and start my gym missions again. I will be a size 10!!!

I have more motivation now as the H2B is going over seas for 3months in less than 2weeks. I'm going to be nailing it over those 3months! Good luck everyone :) x

Another thing I thought of about eating out, watch the drinks. Alcohol has a lot of calories in it, and even some soft drinks can be quite hign. If you go with sparkling mineral water it's still a nice drink but it's calorie free.

I'm aiming for April 5th, which is H2B's sister's 30th birthday, and the next time I will see his family, and mine as well as they live near by. By then hopefully I will be at my ideal weight. Then on May 17th I'm bridesmaid at my brother's wedding, and when we met to go dress shopping the other two girls are both really slim, so that's added motivation to look as good as they do.

So I'm sort of dieting, meals are healthy and I've been to the gym twice this week so far but we still have tons of sweets/chocs left which I'm just eating when I fancy. Figured may as well get them eaten then once gone I can really start.

Put on just under 4lb over Xmas so could be worse.

Want to lose 1st 2lb before the first dress fitting at the end of July.

Losf 2lb this week, and 1/2inch from thigh, inch from hips, inch from neck and inch from arms.. and all ive done is eat salad! Hopefully this will continue, but I tend to do well and then get stuck. Work is helping as they've shut the main gates so I have to walk 15 mins from the carpark, and forcing myself to walk out at lunchtime! Also started the 30 day plank and 30 day crunch challenge. I will be slim in 12 weeks!!! Xx

Showgirl aqua arobics is a great way to excersise with a bad back. I am riddled with arthritis in my spine and get bouts of sciatica often I found doingthe aqua arobics helps to keep the back moving, but only do what is comfortable. My dr recomended this for me as obviously the gym was out of the question i was told that if i cant do the full excercise just some gentle movments at first will help for a couple of weeks. What i would suggest tho is a friend going with you as getting in and out of the pool was a bit of a struggle. I lost 5 stone with healthy eating and the aqua arobics a few years ago. Xx

Losing 5 stone is an incredible achievement, well done!
I agree aqua aerobics and even just going for a swim is often the best option to help with the sciatica and have taken people along to a class who have had pains in their backs and shoulders as the water will take the weight off and the gentle exercise will usually help but when it comes to a strained lower back I normally advise to wait until the pain has completely gone as any form of exercise can sometimes prolong the recovery time, it doesn't always though and its mostly up to the individual if they think they have enough mobility to get through the class.

Aqua aerobics might be something I need to look into as well, if I can find the time. I also have arthritis in my spine, which causes not only back pain but also sometimes joint pain in my legs. I had my first slight failure this morning, in that I should have cycled to work but got up late and ended up having to take the car. The trampette beckons tonight. I'll be checking my weight on Sunday for the first time since Christmas, so hopefully this first week of healthy eating and exercise will have undone some of the Christmas damage.

Hi girls! I started my weight loss journey last September with SW. So far I am at 2.5 stone loss and I feel great! I have a lot more to lose but I'm heading in the right direction. I want another stone and a half by my birthday in May, then another stone by September. Hopefully that should put me about a size 12/14 which I think I want to be, and then I can finally go DRESS SHOPPING :-) I've been window shopping and looking online but I don't feel ready to go dress shopping because I'm not happy with how I look. Hi girls, just wondered if anyone would be able to help me out? I had an operation on Wednesday where I was told by my consultant that I wasn't allowed to lose anymore weight (at last weighing I was 8 stone 12 and I'm 5 foot 4 in height, so I'm not underweight) however I really don't feel comfortable in my dress at the moment and want to lose at least an inch around my waist. I'm also not allowed to do any exercises that will put strain on my chest for the next four months and I am getting married in just over 7! Does anyone know any exercises I can do that will tone my tummy and arms without putting strain onto my chest? Also i want to eat healthier but I'm allergic to all sorts of fish oils (can't even have Omega3 tablets) so does anyone have any healthy recipes for me that don't include fish? Thanks in advance :) xxx

So although I am not overly overweight, or overly unhappy with my body I would like to lose a stone maybe stone and a half by the time our Wedding comes around in May.

I am planning to do this by doing my exercise DVDs at least 3 times a week and I have re-downloaded the app "My Fitness Pal" on my IPhone to keep track of what I am eating and burning off. I am also aiming to eat between 1200-1300 calories a day too which so far since I started on Monday has been going pretty much to plan.

I don't plan on weighing myself (we don't own any scales in our house is the main reason lol) but I think I will probably stick to measuring loss of inches rather then actual weight and weight myself when I am at my Mums every so often.

Here's to 2014 and fingers crossed a slightly more trim me!

Even though I'm not getting married until 20/06/2015 I would like to lose a lot of weight!
I'm currently at 12st 6lbs after having my 3rd child 15 weeks ago. As I'm only 5ft 3" my ideal weight is around 8st 2lbs!
I've joined SW about 2 months ago and managed to lose 3+1/2 pounds since starting it but that has gone back on with a little extra :(
I've also been looking into something called Lipotrim which you can do via your local co-op pharmacy. It's proven to lose weight but its a little bit expensive for our budget atm at around £36 per week!
Anyone else got any proven diet tips that dont break the bank? :)

Linzi-jo - Hope all went well with the op. Please follow your consultant's advice and steer clear of any exercise until your consultant advises it is safe to do so... 3 months is more than enough time to tone your tummy and arms.
When you are able to exercise again, start of slow by using body weight only and then you can prgress onto using some weights for added resistance - I reccomend 30 mins to 1 hour 5 or 6 times a week.
To tone the tummy I reccomend crunches, reverse crunches, russian twists and bicycle crunches. Oh and I don't know what the actual name is but I think its (or should be) called a V-sit crunch - so you sit up with your hands on the floor and feet in the air, leaning back slightly, and move your legs in and out and then when you want to kick it up a notch you take your hands off the floor so you're also challenging your core and you perform the move - totally in love with this move although I always feel like I've been punched in the stomach the next day.
For the arms I would say tricep dips, tricep extensions, tricep kickbacks and bicep curls.
These exercises should not put any strain on your chest and I suggest adding in some cardio to get you heart rate up and to get a more 'complete' workout. You should be able to clips online of all the above moves being demonstrated if you do an online search.
Diet wise is tough - you can go online or buy magazines with recipes in and then adapt them accordingly. To be completely honest, although I don't have any dietary restrictions, I often find that recipes in books, mags and online feature ingredients that I or my OH doesn't like so I don't think I have ever followed a recipe as is, but still end up with very tasty dishes.

I been doing weight watchers, I put 2.5lb on over Christmas and tomorrow is my 1st weigh in since my weight gain.

I'm really short! 5ft 1 and rather heavy! I'm aimimg to get off as much as I physically can before the wedding.

I tried to get to the gym all this week but all the New Years resolution people were in and you couldn't get on the machines :( So i've resorted to walking home from work instead (which is about 4.5km) when I can't get to the gym after work.

I was doing Tai Chi on my lunch break on a Friday, but I wasn't getting the whole class, and I love doing it but I'm at a point where I'd rather shelf the Tai Chi and do something more intense to get the weight off.

RobynS38 - if your gym offers a circuit class then I would reccomend giving that a try as is more intense than Tai Chi and you'll get an all over workout. If you want to stick with the martial arts (where you'll recognise some moves from Tai Chi but a lot faster/intense and choreographed to music) then see if there is some sort of Combat class on offer - I've literally just come back from a Body Combat session but not all gyms hold a license from Les Mills to teach this particular class. Fitness FX offer Fight FX for example, and I know there's a gym near(ish) to me that does Aerobox which is a similar sort of thing as well, so have a look at the class timetable and see whats on offer.
If you want something inbetween then aqua aerobics is a good resistance workout thats low impact and although it will give you a lower calorie burn, its still great for all over conditioning. Swimming in general is a good option if you need to get in and out during a lunch break.
If getting to the gym is difficult atm then a DVD may be a good alternative - 30DS as mentioned by Crawf above is a good one to get started, and I can reccomend the other DVDs that JM has created as well if you want a little more variety. A while ago I also tried out a DVD created by a certain Spice Girl and actually quite liked it - the moves are easy with a lot of reps and you can choose to use weights for resistance, or just use your own body weight.

Showgirl they do other things too :) They have quite a variety. They do Body Combat and circuit but the times are a bit hitty-miss because I work 9-5 and some of the classes are 9am start although some are after 5pm which is good.

Getting the gym is fine really - it's less than 2 minutes from my work, and more or less the same walk from home to work. Plus there is a metro/train nearby which goes directly from the station to my home.

It's just at the minute it's so busy from all the people who do the "I'm going to join the gym and get fit for my new years resolution!" and you couldn't get in. The gym is normally fairly quiet, and only really busy when classes are on. I found it annoying but making the best out of what I can do :)

I have an exercise bike at home too, and a beagle that gets his daily walks (at least 30 minutes from me on top of my normal walking), plus my mam donated one of those vibro plate steps because she didn't want it. I've only used it once or twice as of yet but she doesn't have the book so not quite sure what exercises what to do on them, but one of my BM's is more or less a fitness instructor and she's keeping me on track too.

I go to weight watchers on a monday night with OH but we're swtiching to online (simply because we can't afford the £40 odd to keep going) and going to get weighed in Boots from now on!

Weighed myself this morning and I'm 64.8 kilos. That's where I was before I started doing the NHS plan which must have been mid November. I need to get back down to 61 kilos at most for my height (5'2"), but would like to get down to below 60. I'll be back on the plan this week, and I won't have either of the things that normally trip me up on a Friday and Saturday, so hopefully next week the results will be better.

30th August 2014 was the best birthday ever.
It was the day that I became Mrs. Dixon.

There is a lovely Indian confectioners in Coventry that also sells the most amazing samosas and other Indian savoury snacks.... My colleague just brought in Looads.. They smell amazing. And for the first time ever I said NO! :) sat with my soup and feeling so proud of myself. But the smell is killing me!!
Looking forward to the gym today :) then stir fried beef and vegetables for dinner! Yaaaay

Crawf - well done on resisting. I had no idea there was an Indian sweet shop in Cov, my family are still trekking over from Coventry to Leicester to get their samosas so I'll definitely let them know they can stay local.
Lana2BMrsHands - it's so awesome that you've lost the kilo you put on at Christmas. Today is my weigh-in day so fingers crossed but I had a sneaky peek at the scles yesterday and there was zero change from last week so hopefully the measuring tape will be a little kinder to me.
