Hi everybody :)
I'm new to this wedding malarkey, but after 14 years together and 3 kids we have finally decided to do the deed next year! :) We want it in Cyprus definitely, we certainly can't afford a wedding over here! I have been reading through this thread and getting very excited! We have fallen in love with The Garden of Eden (which includes a wedding planner) and plan on having the ceremony and reception there, then we were looking at either getting an all inc holiday separate (Which from what I can see will be about 5k for the 5 of us! :/) or booking a villa for 2 weeks (about £700) and getting flights seperate, but then obviously we have the added cost of eating/spending money, I am just really worried about budget. We will have about 5k all in, inc holiday for the 5 of us so it will be very tight, for the flights alone for the 5 of us, I've been quoted £1600! So...do you think this is doable?? I'm a bit unconvinced. I need to do loads of research and stuff. So jealous of all of you who are all booked and ready :)
Emma xx

IWelcome Emma, I am leaving for cyprus next week & I booked my wedding ceremony & holiday completely seperate, it does work out sooo much cheaper like you said!! Also if you go at a certain time of the year can also be cheaper too. I wanted a july wedding but after looking at prices we decided on may. we have spent less than 2k on our weddingmoon, so it can definatly be done on a budget hun xx

Thankyou! I bet you're soo excited, been reading your posts!! Cant wait to read all about it :)
The only problem with the time of year I have is that we are pretty much governed by school hols, not only for my 3, but others in the party too, some are taking exams this year so it has got to be out of term time, so its either April time in the Easter hols, or the extortionate Peak summer time! Looking forward to the challenge of making it happen xx
CommentAuthorHa_x3
Hmmmmm, the easter hols would probably be cheaper than the summer i reckon. Start looking around at prices in travel agents/online hun. I booked our holiday online & got a massive saving!! Was chuffed!!
Yes cant wait, thanks hun xx

hi emma and welcome!!
we're a family of 5 (one under 2, so cheap flights) and it's cost us £1000 to rent a villa for 10 days, about £1200 for flights from glasgow to paphos, then we'll need money for food and to spend etc
then you've got the wedding itself to pay for. we found that an actual hotel wedding was costing a lot. i think if we could book it again, we'd book an all inclusive holiday in a hotel, but then get married at a town hall and hold the reception out of the hotel. saying that, our villa is going to be great :D
we've not used a wedding planner. we've arranged it all ourselves, which is something i could not have done without this forum!!!!!
we are having a blessing back home 13 days after our wedding in cyprus and it's going to be cheap, but it's going to be fantastic!!! it's actually made me think, we could've had this wedding at home for under 2k!! and it would have been amazing!!
there are only going to be 14 people (including us) in cyprus, but 180 at the blessing. originally, we were just going to take the kids and get married ourselves, but people wanted to come. a lot of people didn't realised how expensive cyprus was though and since said they couldn't come, which is fine. we know it's an awful lot of money
if you need any help or advice, give us a shout!!

hi emma i'm not getting married in cyprus, im getting wed in cuba but i noticed your comment about the summer hol prices, i was in the same boat but found a fantastic offer for a family of 4 in the summer hols which i snatched up, its all inclusive and when i asked about the wedding the travel agent contacted the hotel in cuba and they added it on for me as part of the package (no extra charge :-) other than a £50 deposit to secure it) i got a really good deal so just keep ur eye out there are some good offers out there on occasions xx

Yes Melissa, I was thinking about booking our wedding date either with the town hall or the Cyprus fort (635 euro) and then booking the holiday side of things so many weeks beforehand so we get a cheaper deal on our holiday, I can then get in contact with hotel and arrange the wedding reception!
The wedding planner Ive been in touch with says this can be done!

dont stress, u'll get there if u really need it all then just re assess how ur packing it, i dont know if this will help but some one suggested to me instead of folding ur clothes, roll them neatly then u can stack them its supposed to save a lot of waisted space, give it a go and let me know if it works, u should then just have to unroll them, give them a shake and put them on hangers when u get there xxx

So my gorgeous ladies, I've been reading with interest this thread and how relieved am I feeling about our own wedding now??!! So relieved to see it can be done with relatively little stress in cyprus! Our online explorations today have lead us to the conclusion (so far) that an all-inclusive hotel that we can use wedding planner through (seen some through our usual tour operator) may be our best bet. Initially we wanted to save money and where we can, we will, but we plan on it being our wedding and honeymoon in one so we really want to spend under £3,000- our families who will join us will pay their own flights and hotels so we've just got our flights, accommodation and the document side to do- plus flowers etc. My mum wants to buy dress and to be honest, I don't mind about a cake since we're having a reception in the uk and mums making that for us. Realistically, we're having help as far as some costs are concerned but if people are paying to join us we can't expect a great deal. Is £3k a realistic budget with 14 guests? For a meal after the ceremony plus photographer? x
CommentAuthorHa_x3
Photographers can be pretty reasonable priced.. Stevie_dee & kisywisy's photographer is cheap & lovely, she is doing my sunset photoshoot a few days after my wedding!!
Where in cyprus are you planning to marry? Xx

We're looking at Paphos at the moment, for end of April/ beginning of May next year, how about you? I'd love to have her details if possible please. Can't believe your wedding is so close, properly jealous! xx
CommentAuthorEmma79
Thanks for the advice girls, it is all so daunting at first. With regards to renting a villa, do you think the food will be expensive? With what we will save from going all inclusive, I wonder if we are just going to spend as much on food/eating out/entertainment etc?
Had an email back from The venue I wanted last night, and its looking like over 3000 euros for the ceremony and reception, including: Booking of all services Escort to Town hall for paperwork vintage car flowers bbq stlye meal for 40 guest (inc 10 children) Decorate the area with organza and tulle, organza hangings balls, chair covers and bows in matching colour scheme to suit, candle stands, rings pillow photographer with 40 photos in album hair and makeup for bride and 2 b/maids and then it also includes all the coordination and paperwork organisation etc. What do you think of the price, does it sound reasonable? Argh I'm so confused. xxx

Emma - eating out is quite reasonable. The best thing are the meze's which can be really cheap. Our local taverna where we are staying charges 8euros (£6.50) per meze and they just keep coming with dishes until you are ready to burst. All inclusive is great if you want to stay close to the hotel and not have to worry about anything. 3000euros sounds reasonable for the wedding package. Would you be taking 40 guests though? My only gripe with wedding packages is there hardly seems to be any photos at all included. 40 photos is not that many really. If you are certain you want a package ask how much they are charging for the photographer and ask if you have to have that in your package or if it can be taken out. Maybe look round for a better deal where you get more photos. Our photographer is 450euros and will take as many photos as she can throughout the course of the day and night. Then she will put them all onto a disk for us to do what we want with.
JulieW - 3k should go a long way in Cyprus. It all depends on how you spend it and whether you shop around. Our wedding for 43 people includes ceremony at Paphos Town Hall, 2 hour champagne/canapes sunset yacht cruise, wedding bus transport with champagne, bmw convertible for the bride and attendants, meze banquet (our menu is below) with wine, dj, venue flowers, 3 tier cake and photographer. It also includes 2 weeks in a 3bdrm villa with pool and flights for 5 people. We did our final calculations at the weekend and in total it has cost us £5,300 (half the price of what we would have spent in the UK without a honeymoon) - the only part we haven't included is spending money. Our biggest expense was the 2 hour yacht cruise which costs £1500 but that does also include the wedding bus and bmw as it's all under 1 company, so we got a good deal.

Hmm, I was thinking that about the photographer, but you can take things off etc, they do a diy package, they also sent me a breakdown of prices, so you could find cheaper things elsewhere if you wanted.
Yeah I asked for a price for 40 guests, but it depends on people being able to come, it will probably be more like 20-30, which would knock a chunk off the price. It was 28 euros a head (12 for kids).
Also, where did you get your flights from, as the lowest I can find are £1600 for the 5 of us.. eek.
Your menu sounds lush, my mouth is watering reading it.. x
