I am leaving hair completely to the hairdresser. I have an Afro so it's going to be my biggest worry I think.

I have long thick hair. I plan on having my hair up, will leave it in the hands of my hairdresser. She's been doing my hair for years so knows how temperamental it can be.

Ladies what are you views on bridesmaids make up.
The make up artist I'm using isn't cheap £150 for me £40 each for mother of bride and maid of honour. It will be an extra £40 per brides maid.
What are you guys doing and also have to do all the hair for everyone. I have 9 for hair with sister and flowers girls eek!

I only have three bridesmaids so not too many for me but my hair and make up artist is doing hair and make up for all of us plus my mom for 300 (not including trials), I asked my bridesmaids what they wanted and they all would prefer their hair down so might find them a nice hair slide to wear.

I am getting really good prices on hair and makeup as my friend is a makeup artist and her sister does wedding hair, My Makeup is free and hair prices are standard but she is very good value, look for Upd00 on the big f b but spelt correctly, she is lovely and very good at what she does.
I am thinking my hair clipped back fairly loosely but pretty as I have really thick curly hair which my OH loves.

We finalised our day list too at the weekend, had one of OH uncles say he definitely wouldn't be there so we have been able to add in a cousins plus one.

Would love your opinions on this.... we are only inviting two cousins plus ones to the day because they are pretty solid relationships if you know what I mean, the other four we are considering inviting to the evening possible not one though because we wouldn't trust him as far as we could throw him. Not being unfair am I? Its just I don't really know many of the plus ones neither does OH so we thought they would be better in the evening than the day?

We weirdly had this exact discussion. We went for the rule that if we do not know the plus ones well or it isn't a solid relationship then we aren't inviting them, yes it will probably ruffle a few feathers but I have sat any single friends with solid friend groups of ours and they can either suck it up or not come. This is a rule for everyone so family and friends get the same treatment!

I am pretty sure our friends should understand and I am quickly coming to realise it is our day not theirs or their plus ones!

Go with your gut and don't feel bad for keeping it as you want it!

And I have gone on the pretence that not everyone will say yes to coming so if closer to the date I have a couple of seats left and by then friends are in relationships we can consider adding their plus one on the basis we know them :)

    hope this makes sense

That makes perfect sense to me. I see it this way I'm not inviting my uncles plus one because I don't know the woman I met her once for five minutes and going from past family events if I invite her I have to invite her three kids and I'm sorry but I'm not paying an extra 200 for four random strangers. xx

    Most definitely Stacey,

We have just been told because may is considered summer we are allowed up to 150 guests in the evening rather then 120 which gives us a bit of playing space, but I still have to add this to our hog roast costs so it puts the cost up overall. I don't think we will need more then 120 somehow !!

Our venue also only allows 10 children on site but I am finding quite a lot of our friends have asked for the kids not to be invited anyway as they would like to enjoy a child free night so this is working out quite nicely!

Well that's alright then. We don't have a limit on children but only have 15 invited anyway (most are my cousins). Probably looking around 110 for the evening once we are done but that won't be finalised till we have all the rsvp's back.

Has anybody looked at cakes yet or received any quotes? We have seen a cake we like (in pics on profile) and the quote is 315 but would probably be a little more as we would like to change a few things on it? Do you think this is a good price?

Was that a quote for the 4 tiered cake on your profile Stacey? I'd say that was a great price! We had a quote for 3 tier cake, and it was £350, which we didn't think was bad at all, as she'll have a lot of intricate work to do. But when we asked her how much for 4 tiers, the price nearly doubled!

Hi Emma, yes £315 is the price quoted for the cake in my pics, I didn't know if that was good or bad haha it states that it feeds 80 but we will have near 100 people so do you think that would be enough???

I got a few cake quotes and they were around the £300 mark so probably sounds right. I have been very lucky and my MOH's mom has offered to make it much cheaper. I don't even like cake but you still get caught up in it all looking really pretty.

We had a 2 tier cake for our engagement party so I said we will have to go bigger for our wedding cake but my OH just doesn't get why lol x

I always hear people have a lot of cake left over, I suppose with your wedding you do have to go one up on the engagement party. You could always stick to two tiers but have something a bit more fancy. I have quite a few cake lovers so I know the 4 tiers will go from ours.

I've had quotes for the cake style we want between £300 and £375, but there's a fair bit of work that will need to go into it as it needs to look like part of it is made of lego, which I imagine would take a while! That's to feed 80 people, 2 square tiers. I'll put a photo of the sort of thing in my profile.

I have to admit that my friend is making our cake for free as a wedding present so this is saving us on costs massively, I think we will go about 4 tier, I keep changing my mind on styles from something super smooth simple and traditional to a more intricate style but I still haven't made my mind up.
I am putting some of the saved money back into a personalised clay topper keepsake, I have found the lady who will be making it on E**y and she is lovely and really open to wacky ideas. If anyone wants her name or details just message me, but its going to cost about £80 for a fully personalised topper with tonnes of detail. Seems a lot but I love a keepsake!

I'm actually leaning a bit towards a cupcake tower with a small cake on top that we can cut. I don't like cake and we had quite a lot leftover from our engagement cake so hoping people will eat the cupcakes.

Me and my fiancé both support different football teams so I like the cake toppers where they have the scarfs on but we will have one each. Hoping it will be a nice keepsake after too :)

Also found a bridesmaid rest for my one bridesmaid. I'll get my brother to wear a matching colour tie so it all goes together I think.

My post box is a hand made medieval elm box with traditional iron hinges etc, I will post a pic on my albums when I can find it!
I am still a bit confused on table names and a chart display - originally we had gone with castle names and then just a list of table names and people. But I would love something a bit more creative.. I Am now playing with the idea of using the Map from a game called Skyrim which my OH loves, there are 9 different strongholds and we have 9 tables, but not sure if people will get it or its a bit random lol

Just uploaded the photos of the bridesmaids dresses if you want to have nosey as well. Going to speak to the cake company on Saturday to see what the deposit would be and also if the changes we wan to make to the design will cost extra.

    Hey Wiz,
I think your table list idea sounds cool. As long as people can tell what table they are on I say just go with it and do whatever feels right!
I haven't got an idea set for mine yet, but I have pinned some ideas for what to do. I think I'm just going to have a crate or box for our cards. Get something I can use afterward. Hate the idea of ending up with loads of stuff I can't use again after the wedding!

I haven't even touched a wedding dress yet, I am hoping to start looking at the 12-month mark as I'm currently still recovering from my op and need to get back into Slimming World and hopefully lose a bit before I start trying stuff on. But I'm pretty sure I know what style I want it's just a case of finding the right one. Whether it be sleeveless, lacy etc

It must be good when things just slot into place though, saves a lot of stressing! i am starting to get stressed with the guest list, we want to send out the STDs and need to know who OHs brother is inviting family wise so we don't miss people out or end up inviting people he hasn't and look like a***s for inviting family they didn't. I may have to push OH to either see if his mum knows what's going on or actually speak to his brother.

If you cant get STD out in x-mas cards the world wont end, I would just send the essential cards and save as much on postage for xmas as you can and send STD next year if it is a big issue.

I'm making the dressing gowns so I might pass on the pjs will have to remember the tops with buttons rule would be rather awkward to pull a normal top off. Just spent a quiet five minutes trying to work out how much card and paper I will need for all the stationary.

We have named our tables after our favourite book series as we are both avid readers, I origianlly wanted a paperfold book with the names in the middle but realised this will cost too much so I'm doing pieces of card with the name and number on then a picture of fan art underneath. It should look OK in the end I think??

I'm not sure where I'm going to be staying the night before mine or even on the night of yet. but it's a good point about the button down pj top cos of hair and make up.
I'm probably going to stay at my parents the night before and get a hotel for wedding night. We live close together and fairly locally to our venue so it's difficult to think about. But I definitely don't like the idea of just coming home on the wedding night. Is that silly?

That sounds good to me Stacey. Maybe put one together and see what you think of it. I know you can get book shaped paper mache shapes. That could be another option. Or scour charity shops for books to use they always have lots. Some charities even have shops purely for books.
