I made the first tier of our wedding cake yesterday and finally finished all the evening invitations too so they should all get posted tomorrow :)
CommentAuthorMrs B
Glitterfairy what type of flowers are you having ?
poulton - are you having all of yours fruit? my mums making mine and only the bottom layer is fruit as its a big cake - 4 tiers - 15/12/9/6" tins!
CommentAuthorPB
I am having all fruit 9/8/7".I am only doing it because its fruit and i can do it way ahead of time.I wouldn't even attempt to do sponge as i would be too stressed doing it all at the last minute lol!
Yeah i can imagine! My mum has taken the week before the wedding off to help out and do the cake but she is doing the flower vine now to save a lot of time so she only then needs to make the sponge and ice!
CommentAuthorPB
My cousins Mum did 200 cupcakes for her.She made the cakes in advance and froze them but she still had to ice all 200 plus a giant one that sat on top with buttercream roses the day before the wedding (unfortunately the might before had been the hen do whoops!)She says the very thought of cupcakes or buttercream now makes her feel ill lol.
What flavour sponge are you having?
CommentAuthorMrs B
lol oh my word im not surprised, thats a lot of cupcakes!!
Im thinking of vanilla buttercream with potentially strawberry jam but i cant decide if it would be better with or without the jam, what do you think?
CommentAuthorPB
Mmmm i am a sucker for jam with buttercream definitely! xxx
CommentAuthorPB
Also Mrs B2b the Bongos sound fab and really different x
CommentAuthorGlitterfairy
I have got silk calla lilies. When I asked my friend to make them all I thought I had only asked her to do 6 button holes, but when I was working it out the other day I needed 7 but knew she had nearly done them all bar the final touches. Fortunately I had asked for 7! Phew. They are so lovely, she has done a fab job of them, and even better they are silk so get to keep them after.

Thanks Poulton I thought it would be a bit different! This guy played at the Chelsea flower show this year too and has been booked for next year already so I have no doubt he's good :-) starting to get a bit exciting now I think! A week tomorrow and it'll be 4 months exactly for me eeeeeek!
CommentAuthorRedSez
I'm getting very excited today. Ordered the bridesmaid shoes today. Good old Bay of E. Can't wait. :-D
CommentAuthorObsidian_Winter
I'm getting married in October and next to nothing is booked/paid for yet. Basically, the dress has been ordered and paid for, the cake is sorted (a gift from a friend) and the registry office is booked.
That's it.
Everything else is either in discussions (like the flowers) or the source of major headaches (like the reception) or yet to be booked (like the suits)
Stress is my middle name ATM.
CommentAuthorMrs B
Aww sorry to hear that! Can you to make a list of things to do and give yourselves deadlines to stick to? I've found that's helped me with a cople of the ga hat were taking a while to decided!
CommentAuthorObsidian_Winter
We did that last night so we have some things that we intend to book by the end of this month and we've handed off loads of stuff to BM and MOH and parents. Fortunety our friends and family are a gifted bunch so have offered to make things for the wedding which is saving us time/money.
When the reception is booked the rest is more or less easy... In theory, anyway :)
CommentAuthorRedSez
Good luck. The reception is the key then as Mrs B2B says the lists are only going to help you. It also helps being out of "peak wedding season" Lots of people keep saying that to me at the moment! xx
CommentAuthorObsidian_Winter
Thanks
True, and we chose a week day too, so that should help.
CommentAuthorRedSez
Definitely, that should help loads. xx
CommentAuthorGlitterfairy
I really need to start sending money over to the venue. Not had as many RSVPs back as I would have liked but it does state that they have until July 15th to send them back. I hope they do otherwise I am going to have no idea who is coming and who is not.
Our wedding day - 6 October 2012
CommentAuthorOssie12
If you don't hear from them ask I have already starting asking people who have not yet R.S.V.P if they intend on coming so if anyone cannot make it we can fill the space rather then wasting money x
CommentAuthorGlitterfairy
I will do. I have others who I have not been able to invite along due to too many others, but have them on first call if people pull out. H2B's cousins are being a pain at the moment, doubt they will be coming.

I made sure I had my r.s.v.p's back by end of march or at least knew their intentions ! Luckily everyone is coming we expected to and the ones we didn't think would aren't as they're in Australia! I would call them and ask as some people are just forgetful if they have a lot going on........
I'm waiting for my table frames to come today, apparently they should be here but I can guarantee I'll blooming miss them when I go out after my lunch break!
I'm really worried about my flowers though, my bm is a florist and has said she will do them but she's a bit unreliable with jobs she's had and currently isn't working so am wondering where she's planning on getting them from at cost price ......... I'm considering buying some fake bouquets from the bay as a back up, what do you think? I'm trying to meet up with her but everytime it gets close she cancels and says she's not well or won't get back to me! It's sooo frustrating! She said she was over the moon to be a bm m we have known each other for 11 years but yet she never contacts me, it's always me contacting her and then she won't meet me :-( quite sad really...... I don't know what to do!
CommentAuthorGlitterfairy
Hope you get your flowers sorted out. I had mine the other day as they are silk. I am so pleased with them. I would have liked my flowers closer together in the bouquet, but it still looks nice and seeing as the woman was doing them for nothing I felt I could not comment really. Will get pics done of them and post them on here.

Hello girls
Iv had a very productive weekend... suits ordered, unity candle bought, bridesmaids dress bought (in a larger size) and we are getting close to choosing our vows. We just need to speak to the registra about the vows. I have booked a tonne of appointments for when we are next in Durham, e.g hair, make up, photography, cake and registra...Its so exciting ladies only 115 days to go eeeeeeek.
Obsidian_Winter looks like you have a very busy few months a head of you lol. What day did you say you were getting married on? The key is delegation. Give others little jobs to do. I asked my mum to choose the flower girl dress and I said Mark had to sort his own suit out (which he has finally done!).
I have decided to make my own favours. I am buying loads of pillar candle (cheap off a certain autionn site) and putting some personilsed rippon on them, then putting them in a little gold net favour bag. Marks happy with this idea so when I get paid I will start buying....

Oct12bride86: I'm getting married on the 31st (I know, yes, it was deliberate but when you're having a goth meets geek wedding, it has to be done :))
I'm delegating as much as I can, what worries me is when I don't hear anything back. The best man is supposed to be checking out venues seeing as he is within 10 miles of where we are getting married, but honestly, I'm getting more help from my dad an maid of honour who are almost 500 miles from the location. My OHs aunt is doing the flowers and she's making some mock ups using whatever is available which is awesome. The registry office is more or less sorted, just the m10 form and I'd to deal with but I have a month or so to sort that. The suits are chosen, but not booked because Andrew STILL hasn't picked all of his groomsmen. My dress is ordered (I hope) by my dad who is generously paying for it. The cake is being made by a friend as a wedding gift. The problem is, until we know what the venue for the reception has, we don't know what to organise ourselves.
Sorry, that turned into a bit of a rant!
CommentAuthorGlitterfairy
We are making our own cakes. We are having cup cakes and then getting a cake from the supermarket in which you can decorate yourself as we have a large cake topper, and I thought we can put the ribbons around it which are our colour scheme which I have left over from the flowers.

Sounds like things are coming on for peeps! I've decided that I'm going to start my favours soon , maybe this weekend so that when the suns out I can be out in it otherwise I'll be swearing that I'm missing out on the good weather! We've got our suits sorted, marks looking at speeches on the Internet to get some ideas bless him! My organisation is rubbing off on him lol

Hi all don't know if anyone remembers me, I haven't been on much. I've had a rotten few months so haven't been able to enjoy planning our wedding for a while. My health has been rubbish and my h2b had to have an op to repair a ruptured achiles tendon so i'd just about got myself sorted when i had to start looking after him for the last 3 months. It has tested our relationship with the many obstacles we've had but somehow we've got through it all and its just brought us even closer together. I'm back into the swing of enjoying the plans for the wedding. We've started getting rsvps back and i'm sorting out making bracelets for the ladies favour boxes. I'm having a go at those universal contour wraps tomorrow so will see if i can lose a few awkward inches too lol
CommentAuthorMrs B
I remember you lol sorry to hear you've had a rough time though , how rubbish! On a positive, you haven't missed out on any good weather lol you'll have to keep us all informed how it goes! Are you not worried your dress will be too big as a result? X
CommentAuthorXTeresainLoveX
I'm going for another fitting after i've had the wrap done so i'll have a better idea of how my dress fits. Haven't had any alterations done yet but the seamstress said as long as i don't lose too much weight it won't need altering too much lol. Its meant to be good for detoxing the body and get rid of water retention so think i will benefit more from that than the inch loss haha. Will hopefully post more updates of the wedding plans now i'm getting back into it. How's your plans coming along Mrs B2B
CommentAuthorMrs B
I've been told I'll have the first fitting 6-8 weeks before the day but my dress is a 14 and I'm a 10 but it was a sale dress so they need to take quite a bit off the side panels so I hope they do it ok! Luckily the length is perfect so I don't need any other alterations! Apart from that I'm nearly there, got a bit of an issue with flowers (post above) that I can't decide on and need to get cracking on part of my favours! But overall I think im fairly well organised! Are you far behind now or still p to d Scratch/ where you want to be with things? X
CommentAuthorXTeresainLoveX
I'd managed to get quite organised before so wasn't too bad. My dress is a 14 but so am i, its too long so will need taking up a little bit and the side panels might have to be let out a little just to allow me to breathe haha, its a perfect fit otherwise. My mum is designing and making my bouquets and another friend of the family has kindly offered to supply the flowers in the church as a wedding present but we still not sure on the colours, was thinking oranges, browns, golds but will have to see. Long time since i was a size 10 lol Its just a case of saving up the rest of the wedding money and paying for everything now
CommentAuthorMrs B
Yeah it's all save, save , save isn't it lol I feel bad for spending money that isn't wedding related lol other than food and bills etc! What colour scheme are you going for? Mines black, white and burgundy but my bird cages are ivory as they didn't do them in white but I fell in love with them so never mind lol no one will remember they didn't go I imagine lol
CommentAuthorXTeresainLoveX
We're having golds and ivory - I love your colour scheme that will look amazing. I've got birdcages too, I also bought some led mini pillar candles to go inside them and was toying with the idea of making homemade silk flower wreaths for the birdcages to sit in the middle of so we could add a few more autumny colours to our scheme then. I was thinking of adding love quotes on little dove shaped cards and attach them to the side of the birdcages too
CommentAuthorGlitterfairy
My dress is a size larger as it comes up smaller than usual sizing. I am hoping that they will maybe have to tie the corset tighter to fit it properly. Think the puppies will be safe even with it being strapless

Went for length alterations on my dress today, they weren't sure how to do it without spoiling the lace but fortunately the seamstress came up with a solution phew so i'll now eagerly wait for the phone call to say it is all done yay

hi all, happy your back on with everything teresainlove and feeling better the both of you. wow you are all getting along with your planning.....ive so much to do it feels. still got to send out the day invites and make evening ones.was thinking of a r.s.v.p. day of 8th sept but i think thats too close to our day?August prob better?ive had so much on but wont go into any detail.one great thing is my son has had his prom and finished school(off to do a levels) and exams.was worried about his exams but he should be ok as got an a* in his maths, woohoo. He looked so great for his prom was so proud and i realised im so small compared to him in the photos .lol. Did try and get ideas for my two bridesmaids dresses as we went shopping at meadowhall with no luck.thinking might have to get them made but we all live 35miles apart and work fulltime....not going to be easy. teresainlove my colour scheme is cream/chocolate/orange so similar to yours its going quick this year and coming up fast to our weddings ladies! yey.x
CommentAuthorMrs B
Ooo wow Marie I would get your day invites out soon! Def august for the rsvps as if people can't attend you have enough time to invite others!
H2b has been working on his speech today! Has apparently done the first page lol bless him! Is everyone's hen sorted now? I'm doing Segway, a buffet/ BBQ and a night out on the 6th October! Can't wait! X
CommentAuthorXTeresainLoveX
Gosh Marie I agree with Mrs B2B about the invites, not long to go now, 18 weeks for me, we put 1st August down for our rsvps to be back by, we've actually had some come back and not all yes's so we've got to work out who to invite now lol x Your Hen Do sounds fun Mrs B2B, so far we've loosely organised a meal at an Italian so that my daughter and my MoH's daughter can come on Friday 5th October and might have something on the following day too, not sure yet. We've got other things going on over next couple of months so think the time is going to go really quick to the wedding now.
CommentAuthorMrs B
Times dragging for me so going to throw myself into my work for a bit and see if that helps! Have decided tonight to do a course I have been pondering over for a while so this should keep me more than occupied!
Hopefully getting my candles for my centre pieces this weekend and may even push the boat out and start my favours! Get me haha x

We've been to look at suits today and decided on tails, no top hats though. H2b wanted a normal suit but like the chap said, if we had normal suits they would not stand out from the others, so tails it is. I have said to him though to ask his best man if he will pay for his suit as I am asking my step dad to and my mob is paying for her dress.
Our wedding day - 6 October 2012
CommentAuthorMrs B
My h2b was exactly the same, we tried on normal suits but because he's quite muscly the arms didn't sit right but the tails looked very nice on him and we just thought that if we are going to hire them then may as well hire something not likely to wear again! We are paying for the ushers but fathers and bm are paying for their own bless hem x

Think we have decided to do away with canapés at the wedding now. Will save a few hundred pounds.

My H2b doesn't seem in any hurry to get his suits sorted, reckons he's going to do it a month before the wedding, i'll be panicking if he leaves it that late, think i might have to work on him a bit lol x Glitterfairy you mentioned canapes, we not having them but because we having a church wedding but not able to invite everyone that wants to come to the wedding, we're making a load of cupcakes instead so that people can have one at the back of the church after the service whilst we are doing the photos.
CommentAuthorGlitterfairy
I think h2b only sorted suits as we were having a cuppa before dropping his kids back and the shop was up the road.

Hello ladies,
So sorry Ive not been on for a long time. Had such a nightmare with bridesmaids dropping out!! (Long story and Ive posted it already in the forum) Anyways, how is everyone? I can see from reading that the planning is coming along well. Since the drop outs, mine is back on track. Ive asked 2 of my friends from work to be bridesmaids as they have been absolute god sends. Took it upon themselves to help me out without being asked and I dunno what Id have done without them! We too have only got a few little bits to sort - flowergirl shoes, my jewellery. We also need to sort out our first dance as we have a couple and are finding it hard to choose! We gave notice last week so once the certs are through, we need to get in touch with registrars in the borough that we are getting married in. Has anyone else had to do this/going to do this? It's getting late and I'm off to bed.
Speak soon ladies
Em xx
