Can I ask how many of you are being honest with your evening reception numbers?
I'm asking cause when talking to my mum who used to be a wedding co ordinater she was shocked I was going to tell them the right number she said that loads of people invite more than they state to get round the buffet numbers policies that venues can have ie to cater for 100% of people attending and that as long as you know you've got enough food to cover the people coming just go as low as I can on numbers to save me paying £16.95 pp which would save a few hundred quid. She also said it'll save me money if people have rsvp'd and not shown as the money and food isn't wasted
I see her point but just thought I'd ask if i was being naive in thinking everyone got the exact number.
Sorry for the long post xx

well i was wondering this, as i am inviting 80 for the main day and they asked me about the evening too and i said well it would prob be the same if not just a few more, so they have again charged me for the 80. I do however want to ask more than just the 80 coming to the main meal and i dont know if i have to tell them or not, obviously if i do then the money will go up again.

Fire regs cannot be broken and some don't provide enough seats or plates etc if you don't give out the right numbers. It doesn't always pay to tell them lower numbers. You can be legally held accountable if there is a fire etc and something goes wrong.

the wedding co-ordinator at my venue actually said to us not to cater for all evening guests, as there is always too much food wasted. so if we were having 120 people cater for 100. i was quite surprised she said so, but please she did. we've budgeted for 100 and dont plan on catering for more ,i don't think it matters too much with a buffet, anyway once the foods gone its gone xx
It would be within their max number I wouldn't go over that limit cause of that my mum was saying that you really have no firm idea how many were there if some don't show and no one counts them in etc x

meant to add, daytime guests dont tend to eat that much evening buffet i often forget its there haha da to much champagne by then x

That's not too bad roseyb but some places insist that you must pay a buffet price for 100% of guests to make more revenue the place I worked used to x

I haven't either Rosey! just an estimate. I always think hotels are a bit stingy on food (not all), so I'd rather have a bit more - food and drink is what guests remember (well my family! :0) x

plus we went to a wedding last year and they ran out - it was awful and we were starving :0) wasn't impressed! ha ha x

my venue said they dont cater for the exact number for th evening do iv around 200 coming i told them so they are catering for about 175 if i remember so ur venue shouldnt rip u off il prob end up with more than 200 but they wont be counting as my guests come thru the door i wont be going over that much tho

Our venue told us to cater for 70% of the evening guests. Your day guests will have had a good meal with you and be hitting the alcohol and alot of evening guests will have eaten before they come.
