No it is half of the total agreed price which would be the 6k. They may negotiate with you and allow you to downgrade but that is about the best you can do looking at their terms and conditions. In there it even says they can charge you additional room charges if you drop the numbers of people you invite from the numbers that you agreed to when you signed the contract.

The wedding package we went for is £1000 the rest is for photos, car and things like that, we have got a hotel room included in the £1000 and we only having 30 guests in the day and 60 in the evening

ok let me try get something right, is it the cost of the holiday that you have not get the money for....... well that is easily resolved as there is no law that says you have to go on a holiday/honeymoon this you can do another time, or is ther anyone who can keep your daughters while you go

You really need to talk to the venue and ask them what you can cancel and what you can't. They may work with you to help you out but I wouldn't hold your breath for too much and they do have you by the short and curlys looking at their terms and conditions. The contract you signed up to will be legal so they could even take you to court to chase you for the money if you don't sort things out with them. Had you not worked out your budget and finances before you booked the venue? Surely you must have known before hand if you could afford this or not?

Yeah I'm starting to get confused now. If you are tied into a holiday contract you need to check the terms and conditions for cancellation on that too!

can i ask are you £6k short even if you can continue putting £100-£250 a week away? cause if its not inc savings then you could save another £2k over 8 weeks if you save £250 is there anything else you could to to raise the money like selling on bay of e or some temp part time work? xx

The things that we are struggling with now is the rest of the venue and the holiday and some small bits. We are gonna get in touch with the holiday inn and see what we can do and as for the holiday we are gonna see if we can push it back a bit. We cant leave the girls with anyone as i dont trust my family and the in-laws live to far from where they have to go to school. I think plan is now is to pospone again till next year as h2b said he wont be able to get time of work again this year and by next year we will have paid it all without a loan. We did do a budget and we have gone over that by 3K we then look at our finances and they were all fine the thing that has set us back is when we split in july last year so we missed 6 weeks.

We are only having one car and he is doing 2 trips taking bridesmaids first then coming back for me all the guests are making their own way there. We have been looking at things we can cut back on and should save us quite a bit of money we are going to the travel agents and we are gonna see if we can change the holiday to 1 week instead of 2 and see what they say xx

stephe i gettin married at holiday in u will loose alot mor ethan ure deposit! its from 3 months to 28 days u have to pay it all hun ( i just got my t&c out as am getin wed at holiday inn 2 ) u need to cancel b4 28 days cos then u hav to pay them extra 4 lose of earnigns x
cancellation notice- over 24 - loss deposit 18-12- 10% 12-6 -50% 6-3-75% 3-28 days= 100%
less than 28 days 100% plus loss for bar revenue calculated at £5 per contracted adult! so if i was u i wudnt cancel i wud ask ure parenst or his 4 loans?

Janet ive made all the invites myself alone with place cards, table planner and order of day cards so that was one saving we made. We are cancelling the drinks package we are cutting down the cost of our photographer and going with a cheaper package that we know we can afford we are also cutting back on the dj as we have got extras with him but just gonna have the disco we have already cut back on the rings and bridesmaid dresses as ive now got them down to £80 each instead of £179 each. We are going to the travel agents on wednesday to see if we can cut back on that as well (fingers crossed). The reason we was going for the loan was so we could pay everything of in one go but we have been up all last night didnt go bed till 6am this morning going through everything and if we can do these cut backs we can afford to pay it without a loan we have also decided to cut back on the registrar so instead of paying over £300 for them to come out to the hotel we have decided to get married in the registry office instead then renew our vows in 5 years instead of 10 and have it big as ive promised h2b that we can do it at the football ground of the team he supports x

UPDATE!!!!!!!
Just to let you all know that things are looking up for us now we have done all the cut backs that we can do and we have been to the travel agents this afternoon (just got back from there) and we are amending it for a later date and we are not gonna lose anything which we are really happy about. All this now means that we are back on track and under our budget that we set in the first place so we dont need a loan anymore. xx

i have just read your post and my h2b & i were in similar situation. our original wedding date should of been 30 april this year but unfortunately last year h2b had his salary cut by a large amount. we had planned a civil ceremony in a local hotel with wedding breakfast and evening reception etc. and paid out quite alot in deposits. we took the decision to put our wedding back to october this year, and attempted to sell our house to free up some capital etc. and pay for wedding.
we were unsuccessful in selling, but after refinancing we took the decision to downsize our wedding. we have decided to scrap the sit down meal and civil ceremony and are now getting wed in a register office (partly because i cannot justify paying an extra £240.00 for registrar to cross a dual carriageway) and so far its costing 50% less than anticipated.
IMO i know getting wed in a register office is not your dream day but surely the venue doesnt matter, its making that commitment to each other that counts, plus do really want to start married life with a big financial cloud hanging over you?
i hope it all sorts itself out

Thanks martay, thats what we are doing we are still having our reception at the hotel with the sit down meal but instead of having the ceremony there and paying just over £350 for them to walk down the road we are gonna see about getting married in the registry office instead. It is a big thing when you set a budget then something getting in the way its horrible but we are putting the holiday back till october cos we know that once the wedding is out of the way we will be able to afford it but also it gives us something else to look forward to xx
