I really want the Traditional Top Table, BUT...

My H2B father is an Alcoholic and does not eat much.. and will be restless and wont sit down for more than 10 mins... he also dont like to eat around ppl...

So my problem here is the top table will look strange with everyone sat down and he will not be there...
i dont wanna make him feel awkward, but how do i get round this problem?

i take it you are having a sit down meal then. otherwise i would suggesta a buffet as then people would be up and down and it wouldnt look strange x

I think you need to discuss it with your h2b and possibly sacrifice the idea of tradition, I understand you want it, but like you said you dont want h2b feeling uncomfortable and it is his day as well.
See what he says and how he wants to work round it.

He has said that we cant try to make FIL stay sat down if he wants to get up...

But he has said that he will talk to his father and see if he will at least stay sat down for the speeches...
sorry have edited it... it IS h2b FATHER not H2B lol

Ohhhhh sorry, i thought you meant h2b :( sorry. xxx

Is it a sit down meal or a buffet because like mrsbarkertobe pointed out, that would feel more relaxed?
Is there a chance you could maybe give him a job to do to keep him busy so that he doesnt have to sit down a lot but it wouldnt look so akward?

    Its a sit down meal......

if it was a buffet i wouldnt worry so much....
Oh well im leaving it in H2B safe hands to have a word with his father, lets hope he will behave himself at least
    for the speeches...

I'm assuming his side of the family know what he's like and so it wouldn't be an issue to them as such...maybe have a word with some of your family. People are how people are, quirks and all whether they're born with them or they're self inflicted, it's what makes us all unique! I know that kinda sugarcoats it all a little but besides having that sort of mentality what else can you do?!
