Hi girls. Our wedding is 05/05/15, so not far away, we have loads of ideas for first dance but don't know what to pick. My H2B likes "Indian summer-stereophonics" as he says it reminds him of me. The only thing is, the lyrics don't sound right. My H2B loves it as the lyrics says "she was the one for me". But as you may of noticed it says "was". The full lyrics are:
Every time that I see her,
A lightning bolt fills the room,
    The underbelly of Paris,
    She sings her favorite tune,
She'll drink you under the table,
She'll show you a trick or two,
But every time that I left her,
I missed the things she would do.

She was the one - for me,
She opened my eyes - to see,
She was the one - for me,
    Well alright.

    It was a cold September,
    Before the Indian summer,
    That's the thing I remember,
Then she gave me her number,
    Went from station to station,
On a train 'cross the nation
    And the rain of November,
That's the time that we ended,
She was the one - for me,
    Well alright.

    Vodka with Coca Cola,
    Cocaine tucked in her shoes,
    Cigarettes over coffee,
Her halo slipped to a noose,
Take a slow boat to China,
You fly a rag 'round the moon,
She could take it or leave it,
I knew it had to end soon.

She was the one - for me,
She opened my eyes - to see,
She was the one - for me,
    Well alright.

    It was a cold September,
    Before the Indian summer,
    That's the thing I remember,
When she gave me her number,
    Went from station to station,
On a train 'cross the nation,
    And the rain of November,
That's the time that we ended,
She was the one - for me,
    Well alright, alright, alright, yeah

I do love the song but worried as the lyrics mention cocaine and don't want people
Coming up to me saying that the lyrics mention that.

The other ideas we have are: Iris-goo goo dolls, Eric Clapton- Wonderful tonight but these choices do change. I do like my Robbie songs but H2B doesn't like him or Adele, and we both don't like common used first dance songs. I.e the one from amargeddon. So what do you guys think/suggest?

I'm not sure about that song. It's kind of like looking back at a past love, rather than celebrating a current love. It speaks about "that's when it ended" - just don't think the lyrics suit the occasion.

I agree, it seems too past tense, hubby wanted an Adele song, until I pointed out it was not great lyrics, we never went for it.

I agree with the other ladies, it talks too much about the past, it should be something that describes your love or a song you both like that doesn't talk about past love or when something ended.

I agree too. Seems like it's referring to the past and not the current.

Also agree, it doesn't sound appropriate to me. Lots of people have songs that aren't quite right lyric wise, but you are clearly not happy with it. Go with one of the other one's you both like.

Personally , unless someone at your wedding knows all the words , no one will notice the lyrics....or care .. I doubt someone will be standing there with a ear out listening carefully as if it was a song thats been personally written. if the song means something to you both , play whatever you like, at least it does have words of love .. I think its better to have a song that means something to you rather than a song that doesn't but has all suited lyrics.. But if you not happy with it then deffo change it to something else, but wouldn't worry what other people think, go with what you both want :)

I have to agree with EmmaG.

If your not 100% comfortable then perhaps choose something different together but if your happy as it reminds the H2B of you then go for it xx

It does sound like a past love, but then lots of people use Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life) by Green Day, and that's about a past girlfriend who moved away. Someone I know had Jar of Hearts played at some point at her wedding.
What kind of music do you both like?

Thank you guys :). I do like the song I just don't want people coming up to us afterwards and ping "you do realise the song contains cocaine in it". I don't think it would happen but I'm thinking what other people would think. We don't have any ideas of what to go for as a first dance song. H2B did suggest Iris-goo goo dolls which at the time I didn't like but it has grown on me. I do like Adele-make you feel my love but h2B doesn't like her or Robbie Williams (who I love) lol. The H2B likes stuff like stereophonics, pink Floyd, oasis and cold play. Any suggestions from those bands that you know of? X

its a really hard to decide what to do for a first dance isn't it.. so many songs out there and its a question of, do you do a lively fun one and do some fun crazy moves or a slow one to a love song .e.t.c I personally aren't up for all the clichés song choices that people have or the well known power ballads, but we are either going to do a really silly lively song , or a song that is personal to us, I don't know if you have ever heard of angus Julia stone, but they are amazing, gorgeous songs and when me and my partner met we listened to them a lot so they all have meaning behind them for us . Other day I found a track they have done and its beautiful.. called the wedding song.. check it out , you may just love it and the lyrics too , we going to either have it as our first dance outside in the woods under lots of fairy lights or within our ceremony , not sure yet but I will be using it somewhere.. gave me tingles all over when I first heard it..i cant stop listening to it , its perfect for us anyway :) other than that , I would check out acoustic versions of well known songs you both like, they can sound so much more romantic, and much more original and unique :)
