To start off with I'm not a bride, as I have a distinct lack of lady parts, I am a groom and a very very lucky one to have such a beautiful bride-to-be. I was scouring the internet looking for good offers on venues, cakes and what-not in the Yorkshire area and came across this and decided to sign up, ignoring the site title of UKBRIDE. we have just been revising our budget as hoped to get married in somewhere suck as Raven Hall or Allerton Castle, but because of many recent outgoing it looks like our full wedding budget for April 2015 is to be cut to approx £5000, which rules out these beautiful places. I feel awful because I promised her anything she wanted however she states that she doesn't mind and would be happy with anything, I believe her but feel she is still disappointed. Anyway just wanted to say hi and make sure its okay the a groom is on here too :D

Hi Andrew. Welcome to the site! As one of the moderators, I can hereby declare that you are most welcome here!
We have a few other grooms-to-be (G2B) on here and it's good to hear a male perspective on some of the topics here - it helps keep us grounded LOL!
Anyway, welcome and enjoy! PS - make sure you read the rules and points stick at the top of the forum page ;)

Don't worry about not having a venue that looks 'dreamy' on paper. There are loads of ideas on here for turning any venue in to a perfect wedding!
CommentAuthorAndrewS27
Thanks Kimi thats great, it does seem like a real helpful friendly place :)
Just remember that as long as you both like the place....it doesnt have to be the best in the world. Im sure you will have a great day even if its not at a very expensive. Maby you could look into some sort of suprise gift for her to have on her wedding day. Something she wont expect x
CommentAuthorAndrewS27
Hi Katherine my fiancee mentioned possibly converting a barn which could be amazing if done right, something we will look into, definitely

I was thinking of maybe getting singing lessons so I could sing 'Your Song' from Moulin Rouge to her on the day, as its our song, but I'm really nervous and worried about it :S
CommentAuthorlala "mod" bunni
Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyy
another G2B on here ......... Clive your not on your own babe
The song.....defo go for it! That is such a lovely idea. I would, even though you are nervous. sounds like it would beat any venue to me. Such a personal touch too x
CommentAuthorAndrewS27
I should have mentioned I really can't sing at all though lol :)

Andrew, my husband can't dance to save his life, but the thing that really made my day (apart from marrying my man, of course) was that he really wanted to do a proper first dance. He insisted we took dance lessons so he didn't look a complete fool and we did a choreographed dance. Everyone loved it and it meant so much that he even considered doing it. It wasn't perfect (although we covered the mistakes well) but that didn't matter. It meant the world. So, I say go for the song!

hey andrew have you considered a week day wedding? some venues offer massive discounts on a weekday wedding so it's always worth a consideration if you're on a budget but have your eye on specific venues!

....And I do exist :-)
Just to illustrate that there are grooms on here, a huge welcome from me as well. :-)

Hi Nicole the only problem with a weekday wedding is making sure eveyone really important can attend, but it's something we will give more thought to :)

Andrew! Lol, when I first saw your name I thought my h2b had signed up to spy on me
Enjoy the site, it is the best wedding site and everyone is so helpful and friendly. Some great creative and money saving ideas.

there's a thread on weekday weddings somewhere, if i can find it i'll bump it for you. If you give enough notice with the save the dates i'm sure everyone important will be able to attend, but i was just mentioning it really so you are aware of all your options! good luck planning the wedding, its nice to see a groom so involved :)
CommentAuthorAndrewS27
Thanks Nicole that's really nice :) Haha InDreamland I wouldn't be so sure he's not just yet :) only joking thanks for the welcome

Hope you find your dream venue soon. My sister and bil had a Thursday wedding, sent out STD's 6 months before and still got 80 guests so a mid week wedding is a good option to save cash on a dream venue and great package and people will still make an effort to come x

I'd second the weekday wedding possibility. My hubby was best man in Dublin for a Thursday wedding. The groom was from Birmingham originally so all his friends and family travelled over for it. They told us about a year in advance and we all made a proper holiday of it.

Weekday is growing on me however my B2B is going to be a teacher by then so would have to be worked into the school holidays as well, but then again it would do anyway with the honeymoon and all.
CommentAuthorInDreamland
Also, if you can stay at the venue the night before you save on fancy cars which is a big expense. If you have a later ceremony you don't need canapés unless they include in your package.
You can find fab deals on the bay, I got quite a few things off the bay which saved a lot compared to what you pay on the high street.

For sure, and everyone says its the brides day, but hold on, surely it's the grooms day as well. Good for you. Wen I was planning mine I would say to hubby about things and he would just say yeah whatever. He's not very good at organising though so was best I done it. Lol

Lol, my h2b got involved with choosing the venue, actually he was great with the venue choosing as he was very picky, then choosing the cars him and my dad out voted me on the choice (men) and he went all groomzilla on the cake and I had to reign him in before he spent the entire wedding budget on a cake!

Clive! Can't say h2b has done that much but he's been involved in everything and more than what I expected so can't fault him there plus he's done most of the house stuff so I'd say it's an equal split of duties lol x

Budget constraints can be hard and you may end up looking at loads of venue but I'm sure like us you will find a wonderful venue with a great price to match!
Good Luck and its nice to see another groom so into the wedding (I consider myself very lucky to have one who is so involved)

The story so far:
We jointly chose the wedding venue, reception venue, car hire, photographer and the rings. I did the save the date's, invites, I am also in the middle of doing the place names, table plan and taking control of the budget. I'm liaising with all the venues as well as handling the RSVP's that come in. Flowers will also be a joint effort.
