    To cut a long story short;
Due to finances we had to cancel our original photographer, we were hoping because he knows Ross and he seemed like a decent bloke that he'd refund our deposit, but he point blankly refused - upsetting but fine, we signed a contract so not really in a position to complain.
My 'friend' who is a photographer offered to step in and help us out except his package was sh!te to say the least, we would have had to pay for him AND his friend to do the pics, no album, no disc, just 10 prints, wanted to charge us £850 and then had the cheek to say he'd need to use our shots for advertising because of the 'reduced rate' Anyway, I messaged him to say a polite thanks but no thanks and explained that we wanted a lot more than 10 pictures for that sort of money but he was still welcome to join us as our guest.
Had a message back - "I'd love to come as a guest. Tell you what, I'll bring my camera and if I get any shots you like you can have them for £20 each"

Cheeky little s0d!! I cannot believe how greedy he is. Sorry, I'm not going to pay any other of my guests £20 per photo I want to pinch off them, in fact most of them have offered to get the shots of us so we don't have to pay a photographer, as they said, they're taking pics anyway and it'd be nice for us to have a copy.
Some people really do astound me!!

He can't use your photos for advertising unless you sign a release form stating he can use them... so even if he comes and takes the photos, without the forms he hasn't got a leg to stand on legally.

And you could charge him for the photos, if he wants to use you for advertising as it's your likeness being used... the pictures 'belong' to you if you are in them so if he wanted them that badly then you could always use Jodie's idea :P

I'd tell him to leave the fecking camera at home otr not bother coming. My friend is our photographer for family parties, he does natural shots of the day rather than posed photo's and does it for drinks! I always insist on paying him for his time though but he takes it as an insult most of the time. He is a professional photographer as well! Sorry you're friend is so insistent on charging you! x Suppose times are hard and he is trying to make money where he can (devils advocat - sorry) x

I'm glad I'm not overreacting to this one - I'm still really upset about it!!

I was thinking as a bit of a safeguard to get him to sign something saying that if he does bring his camera he's not allowed to use any of the shots for advertising or posting them on social networking sites (ie FB & myspace) and if any of the shots ARE used then he has to pay us £20 per picture used.

On the other hand it might become a case of "Sorry N, your invite got lost in the post"

ltw979 - I understand your Devil's Advocate bit but there's trying to make money because times are hard and taking the p!ss - he has a full time job and does make a fair bit of cash on his photography and he knows damn well how hard up me and Ross are at the moment. If we'd made an arrangement with him to take some pro shots then yes, we'd be happy to give him a bit of cash but he's invited as our guest and not in a professional capacity and that is why I'm so blinkin' annoyed!!

pmsl pinkrobbers - you managed to get me to smile over this so thank you :) xxx

I made a decision over this - I'm still going to invite him because I'm far too nice for my own good, but only to the evening do (as it's not costing us anything for the guests). I'm also going to ask my head usher to make sure he doesn't have a camera with him when he enters the venue and if he has then it'll be confiscated until he leaves.

It's true what they say - a wedding really DOES sort the wheat from the chaffe!!

cheeky sh*t. id pop a little note in his evening invite stating due to exlusive pics no camera's allowed and if any camera's are spotted by the wedding party (ie ushers) then they'll be confiscated. then when he asks why other ppl have their camera's on the day just say they all offered their services for free lol.

Sorry but martyns bro takes pictures for a hobby and we are thinking of having him take a few and we will give him some money but if we decide not to have him take pictures and just have the photographer i am sure he wont charge me for a picture. I cant believe the cheek of him. And charging you 850pounds so have 10 photos sorry digital camera 100 pictures would only cost you 30pounds(not saying you should have a digital camera for your wedding photos Well not all of them any way)

I know he can't xjox but I've seen him do it - on Facebook of all bl00dy places. He gets the shots, edits them and then posts them in an album, supposedly for the couple to see, but EVERYONE can see them, 2 seconds later it's followed by a status update inviting people to look, then 5 minutes later he's hawking his services for wedding photography. I just know he'd do that with ours *grrrr* xxx

I might just do that Den1se - chipper idea, ty :) xxx

Do you know what though Mrs Hall2B - I've got a Panasonic Lumix digital camera and reportage photography is my hobby, I've taken so many shots on it and once they've been tweaked on the basic windows programme you can't tell the difference between the pro shots I've got of me and the shots I've taken. To be honest these days the digi cams are pretty much on par with pro cameras and I really wouldn't mind if all my wedding pics were done on digi cams xxx

Sounds like if he does make a go of it he won't be in business long. Not a good way to start a professional career.
If I were you I would email him, saying you don't want him to use any images from your wedding. Get a read receipt if you can. That way you have proof that he has been told.
Doesn't sound like the sort of person you need as a friend!
