I have a couple of dilemmas with the bridesmaids dresses. Firstly, what are your opinions of high street dresses for bridesmaids? I don't particularly want to spend over £100 on each dress so I thought Id be better going for something in the high street, as then they will also wear it again - i mean I can't justify buying 4 dresses that only get worn once can I?!!
Secondly, How nice should I be to my bridesmaids? I've found a dress which is very pretty, but it only comes in cream, black, teal and baby pink. My scheme is spring and I wanted pale green for BM dresses. This worked out perfect as one bridesmaid is very pale but suffers from really bad excema all over her body and it can be very sore and red. When i said I was thinking green she was really happy as its a neutralising tone for her - a lot of her makeup has green in like her foundation. That also means that even if she flares up she won't feel self conscious on the day than if I put her in pink or something. Obvoiously, this is a problem if i buy these dresses as they don't do it in green - I emailed the designers and they said they haven't been able to get the material in green. I could buy the dress in cream and put a green sash on it, but then BM might feel self conscious?
OR... I buy cream dresses and try to dye them green and pray to all the Gods that it works and I don't ruin 3 dresses!
OR keep looking! I have 11 months after all!
What do you think I should do? All opinions welcome!
This is the dress in teal:

thats a lovely dress, why dont you ask the bm if she would wear the cream dress and if she really doesnt want to then carry on looking or dye them x
CommentAuthorLegoWife
I agree with the above, they would look stunning in cream with a green sash.

That's what I'd like to do most to be honest, buy it in cream and put a sash on it. The designers will have pics of them in June and be putting them in the shops June ish so I can hopefully get the girls to try it on and see.

Consult the bridesmaid see how she feels, i'm sure she will go with whatever you want hun, it's you day! :) x
I love that dress where is it from. I am buying high street dresses for the same reason and my BMs are very pleased as they will get a dress they can wear again. I would ask your BM how she feels about cream. Personally if she is very distressed about it, I would have a look around as you have plenty of time. However if you cant find anything else you like I would get that one anyway and maybe have a go a dying her dress and see how it looks. If you manage to get exactly the same coloured sash the contrast might look really nice. Good luck x

I agree with buying form the high street stores hun, thats exactly what I have done and found some real bargains. I agree with the others on asking your BM if she would be happy to wear the dress in cream. If you do need to try and dye the dresses, would it be best just to try it on the one first just in case? xx

There are some lovely dresses out there on the high street, you can get some nice ones for £30-50. You just got to be careful with the material when it comes to dyeing clothes as some don't sit well. & yes, Dylon is really good.

I really like that dress, where's it from as I'm looking for something like that in black. I think cream with a green sash would look lovely.

I think high street dresses are brilliant cos your bm's can use them again. Thats a lovely dress but you have loads of time yet and you might see something else on the high street. Dont get your bm dresses to soon speaking from experience they could put weight on then the heat is on to loose it cos in my case I cant afford to buy anymore.

Hi Ladies, thanks for your advice!
The dress was one I spotted in a local independent shop in Lancaster, however I checked the make and its a label called Eucalyptus, based in London. The dress is called Sophia and is from the Autumn/Winter '11 range though they are making it again in Black, Pink, Cream and Teal. Ive shown a picture of it to all 3 bridesmaids and got very positive feedback from 2 of them and an 'its nice' from the one I'm concerned for the colour of. When I emailed them asking about the dress, they were really helpful, and have been in contact promising me pictures once the dresses are (re)made, and are going to let me know where they are selling the dresses so BM's can go try them on. Prices on the internet seem to vary between £79 and £100 but it's still not bad price!
I'm going to wait to see what it is like when they come out and perhaps get them to try it on in Cream. If it is OK, I might stick with that colour. If not I will email the company and ask for them to send me a sample of cream material to try and dye it and then possibly dye the dresses!

the dress is lovely hun, but i wouldnt advise dying it as only certain fabrics can be dyed and quite often these types of dresses will have been treated before sale so you are risking it. You could get a sash for the cream one in the green colour you are after or wait as your colour green is one of the big colours for spring/summer 13 so you might get a more suitable dress closer to the time. xxx

I bought 4 gorgeous cerise pink maxi dresses from quiz for £60 each and they look stunning I can't wait til they are all made up on the day :-) spend far too much in a bridesmaid shop x

gorgeous dress think it would look lush in cream , so i think go for it , im sure cream cant be too bad next her skin had it been pink i would have defo thought you would need to consult her but cream is also a calming colour xx
looking forward to being Mrs Embo :)

Could the teal ones not fit in with your colour scheme, maybe you could have cream with a teal sash and for the other one have teal with a cream sash or two of each xx
