I may be wrong here but it seems to me that some threads are getting closed while others are left open. Just wondering why/how etc?

Ok this is ONE reason why ive done the poll above because some threads are being deleted but not others. And what we/you/me class as silly others dont so we need to sort this out and changing the layout is one option to do this. The other is getting rid of ALL none wedding threads which will include weight loss, baby thread, chinwag EVERYTHING and we dont want to that really becausae we are all women and thats what we do, TALK! lol Obviously im not here 100% of the day but i try to log on when i can so im here most of the day (stay at home mum) as i know the other mods have work etc but when we are not here then obviously 'silly' threads are left open when they shouldnt be (i tend to look at the first 3 pages when im on, so maybe i should expand that to get them all??).
Sometimes i stay logged in but im off elsewhere doing things round the house, so if you ever have any probs please feel free to pm me, i may not answer straight away but i WILL get back to you.
I think dispite the poll above im going to have words with J anyway about trying the other layout for a few weeks and see how that works!

I don't generally have a problem with whats being posted (and yes I think the phpbb style board will help keep non wedding related stuff in its own section)

Its a hard one as like Hails says what one person deems as a good thread others may not like it and you can't please everyone. What ever happens there will always be some that don't agree or like it. I would hate to see the non wedding posts go as for me this isn't just about a wedding site its a community of women who get together and yes primarily talk about weddings but its also a great way of getting other problems off our chest and sharing ideas, problems and life together. If I'm sick of wedding talk (which happens every now and then) I can come on here and read and talk in the other posts. Its what develops our friendships and gives us a safe place to chat.
Too be honest I kind of think that if a post offends someone or they don't like it then they should be mature enough to be just be able to ignore it rather than kicking up a fuss. If I'm sick of seeing posts about wedding dresses then I just don't read it but then another day I may want to read it and comment. Yes I agree there are some people that just post for the sake of getting points etc but this is usually pretty obvious to those that use the forum regularly and the mods can use their experience to stamp this out rather than stopping everyone.
Surely we can find a way of getting around this without having to make things so black and white?

I really don't see the problem with non-wedding related chat. I think 80% of the threads ARE wedding related and those about littering or babies or cats don't HAVE to be read by people that aren't interested in them. I think it's unfair that some non-wedding related threads are closed because they are non-wedding related - THAT'S WHAT THE CATEGORY IS FOR!!! Lol!
Personally, I hope it stays the way it is. I like it how it is now.

I have no problem with it either, like you say read it or don't. But if the site is phpbb style then that whole category can be ignored completely if you so wish. At the moment, the front page does get the non wedding related threads up there making it harder to ignore

Maybe we could have a test site in which we can all visit and then see if we like it then take a vote on which one the users as a whole like the best? You can't please everyone so once there has been a trial it should be majority votes win.

Well, I don't use any forums except this one so I'm only used to this one. I like having lots of different threads on one page; variety is the spice of life! Also, sometimes people post things that I had never considered nor would have found in the other style.
We'll just have to wait and see what the big boss and team decide...
