We had booked our church for our wedding, and then booked everything for the reception and paid deposits e.t.c. Our vicar tehn informed us that it is his sisters wedding anniversary party that day so he will not be able to take the service for us, but he would arrange for someone else to. . .

Well we met the vicar and found him to be quite rude and he made some really hurtful inappropriate comments to us regarding the fact that we have children before marraige and that my eldest doesn't have the same dad.

We spoke to our vicar who said that he understood why we didn't want the stand in and he said that he would arrange for someone else to do it, he then came back to us saying that he couldn't get anyone.

I rang around the local parishes to see if they were able to help and one said that they could definately help but they asked that we made sure the stand in vicar knew that he wouldn't be taking the service, which we did.

Well this morning the lady from the local parish rang and said that they are unable to help. . . . I don't know what do do, we can't change the date as so many things have been booked and deposits paid i have rang a few other vicars and they are all booked other than one parish who are geting a new vicar in 2 weeks so they will ring me back then. . .What a long wait, especially if they can't help either!!!

    Any advice peeps???

Surely if you had booked the church etc... then the vicar should have made sure he was free? or doesnt it work like that with church services?

Can't wait until the day I become Mrs. Johnson :)

Awwh what a shame :(. I agree with Mrs (Dove) Pidgeon though. Thankfully though God doesn't take days off. I do hope you're able to find a suitable replacement. I'm sorry to hear how that other vicar treated you. :( xx

I agree with Dove, and in hisdefence he did find a replacement but he definitely wasn't the vicar for you! I would wait forwhen te new vicar in the other parish starts in two weeks and see what they say then.
Is there any possibility of having the service in a nearby chucrch with a vicar you like? I know it's not where you chose to get married and you would have to send the new address to people but it may be possible. Venue for reception is the big expensive thing that you can't chnage but would you consider changing the church? God is after all in every church.

You can have a registrar do a civil service in a church so that could be another option to you.

Thanks girls, well our usual vicar actually covers 5 parishs. . .so the nearest one that has a different vicar is the one that i am waiting to hear back from, even if we have to get married in that church it won't be a problem as i have links with the village, and although we did want to keep it all in our village the other church is very beautiful, but it does have a much longer aisle. . .Eeekk, i HATE being centre of attention, but i could always sprint. .

I'm not upset with our vicar as he did what he could to help, and i wouldn't expect him to miss out on a family party, i just feel disappointed as he is a lovely vicar whom i have known for many years and ours would be the last marraige he took before his retirement. . :-( Xx

If you can't get a vicar, could you have a civil ceremony then a blessing with your vicar at a later date?

Does your venue do civil service? Mine is in a hotel and they have a room if people want to get married there isntead of a church?

I have always lived in this village and always dreamt of getting married in the church, our venue is a hired marquee, which will be set up on land 10 mins walk from the church, we did this so everything could be kept in the village. . fingers crossed we get something sorted, it's all i can think about at the moment. x

Hi all, i've had a call from the other local parish tonight who have said that unfortunately the vicar and the stand in vicar are unable to take our wedding as they will both be on holiday, i did a bit of googling and found another priest and gave him a ring, he seemed lovely, but explained that he is a baptist and although he knows that he can take an anglican funeral he is unsure as to whether he can take an anglican wedding. . . .He is going to look into it over the next few days and get back to me. . .I was just wondering if any of you knew anything about this??? I'm getting really frustrated and upset now. Xx
