    HI all.
am abit fed up. Your wedding is supposed to be the greatest day of your life and planning it is supposed to be fun too. I am trying and looking at wedding dresses for the first time this weekend and feel pants about it.

For 1 i am going completely on my own so will have no one to really give me encouragement or support as to how it looks. one of my bridesmaids doesn't give a damn about my wedding and a friend who was going to go with me now has a prior engagement so can't come. I don't want to be the loner who turns up to a dress shop with no friends, ive asked my partner to come with me but don'tt want him to see the dress until our wedding day so don't think this will work.

Has anyone else tried on dresses on their own? if so was it as bad as i'm imagining?
the lady in the dress shop said she will give me her honest opinion but i'm feeling sorry for myself :-(

Hi, i started off going with a crowd of people, but to be honest, they all had different opinions and some werent interested. I got talked into and out of dresses so i ended up going on my own, then when i'd found a dress i liked, i then asked my friend and mum to come see it with me!

Same here really, my maid of honour lives in Germany as does another of my bridesmaids, and the other couldn't make it, so I just went on my own at first and narrowed it down to what style I wanted etc. Once I had found a dress I loved I consulted with the girls before buying it but to be honest it's you who's wearing it, you have to feel gorgeous in it and no one will be able to tell you how you feel!! Plus shop assistants can at least tell you whether it fits correctly etc.

I was going to say that - I think I might prefer to go on my own at first anyway. Then you can narrow down to just ones you like, then you can take someone for an opinion.

I did and i loved it! :) Sadly my mam passed when i was little, i have no other family and both my bridesmaids couldnt make it. I was soooooo desprate to go i made an appt and went on my todd.

It was fab as i didnt have to try on loads of dresses i didnt like or feel guilty for not liking what everyone else liked! The best thing is no-one knows what dress ive picked so its one big suprise :D x

I wish I had gone by myself as my mum was as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike!!
Why dont you postpone the appointment if you dont want to go by yourself? Though to be fair, when you find your dream dress, you will know instantly and wont need anyone to tell you their opinion xx

found the ladies in the wedding dress shop i got my dress from so helpful. They have dressed so many brides they have a good idea what'll look good on you and can read facial expressions so well, so know whether you like something or not and whether to show you more in that style or not. Go and enjoy it, then take your friend and show her your favourite(s). Good luck x x

I think going alone may be best, because when you decide, it is 100% your choice. Also trust me, the ladies in the shop do all of the oohing and aahhing for you!

alllywhite, we are all behind you. im in the same situation, none of my bridesmaids live in same country as me, and frankly my mum couldnt care, but as the ladies have said, it wont be so bad, at least you will have time on your own to see what you like. xx

I went with my 12yr old daughter, and in the end i chose a dress she wanted me to try on! I said no,and she said 'please?! For me?',and that was it! I would have gone on my own otherwise,as i dont like people butting in and not liking what I like! I also would have come out with no idea what i wanted! I feel for you wanting people there. Its sad your bridesmaid isnt interested.Good luck, you will find the one! :)

I went on my own and ended up buying the dress on my own at the same appointment! My family don't live near me and couldn't make it the weekend I had the appointment.

It might be better to go on your own to try on a variety of dresses and narrow it down to a few that you really really like and them go back with others to help then. x
